i can't locate the former avatar problem thread or i'd reopen it but just after posting my new sig line i lost all avatars in the forum posts, my own and everybody else's. the avatar list still shows in the "tools" and my avatar is still showing in my options page. anybody know what might be the problem? and how i can fix it?
thanks.

I seem to be experiencing the same technical difficulty... someone help us! pretty pictures are gone! <sniff><sniff>

I've never had them :(. I can see them if I click on somebody's profile and in PMs, but not in the regular posts.

Another question, how come almost everyone have their own personal 'title' or 'status' or whatever it's called ( like 'Neophyte' etc ). How do you change that?

thanks, that tells me it's a system problem not a mistake of my own and likely mol is tearing his hair out while fixing it so i'll be patient and not waste his time complaining.

(old mol does a lot of work quietly in the background keeping this thing we enjoy so much running smoothly and improving it bit by bit and he doesn't hear the odd "thanks" half often enough i think)

I find the avatars come back when you log out. You can still read the posts but when you sign back in to reply, they're gone again. Haven't had them since the upgrades. It lookes like the list of have-nots is growing.

I wonder if this 'glitch' is a common setting or configuration between all of you. I haven't had this problem you're mentioning yet. Just a thought...

it seems a bit odd we'd all hit the same glitch, i have been reading the posts without logging in, i just logged in for this post, coming in via my yahoo account. let's see what happens.

sounds like a path problem with the server ...

I see the list is growing.

Gunner, you said your problems started when you changed your sig. Same here, I went to change my avatar and that's when I lost all the images, including the smiley faces. So to everyone else -- don't change anything in your profile until this all gets figured out.

I just PM'd mol ...

okay I logged out and logged back in thru Yahoo ... this bulletin board DOES NOT like to log in thru Yahoo :( ... I went back out and logged in manually and was okay. If you use Yahoo and outlook express go to the page about using outlook express with Yahoo, I do and it seems to work.

I have had no problems ever seeing the avatars and smilies. I'm using Netscape 4.72 with java and cookies enabled and all that good stuff. I never have to log in here whether I come in through my bookmark or through an email, as long as I am on my own computer and using my profile under Netscape. If I'm using a different computer I do have to log-in.
One time I came here using Internet Explorer and everything looked out of place, but still functional, avatars also.
When I come here through an email (from my Yahoo account), the pages are slow to load and sometimes I get a message that the server was offline or unavailable. I've decided to just glance at which replies are there in my email and then come here through my bookmark.

NO! :) IE6 crashed my laptop recently. I dont recommend using it.

As for the avatar problem...I am looking into it...but...it is very strange that it is only happening to certain people. If it was a path problem then we should ALL be having the problem.

Can I get everyones browser info please...only those that ARE having the problem.

For example:

IE 5.5 SP2

My avatars seem to have flown the coop as well.. this includes when Im on my computer, ScreaminEagles laptop, the library computer or my mothers computer.. so... explain that one..lol

I just figured that they were gone for some reason..
*poof* bye bye bye.. haha

now Mol.. do you want all the browser info from those puters too?

Me, Eagleboy, and the library all use IE

my mom sucks and has AOL (appologies to any and all aol users in here...its a personal thing between me and them)

hope we get it figured out soon though... i just changed my avatar and I miss seeing everyone elses too :(
by the way my smilies are uneffected...

Mol,
I don't believe it has to do with IE. It seems that anyone who has changed their avatar or signature line has been having the problems. Try it yourself - it may happen to you too. ;)

That could be a contributing factor when coupled with something else, but in and of itself, I would have to say that's not it. Because, I joined about 3 weeks ago (maybe a touch longer, can't remember), but I only started using an avatar less than 2 weeks ago and added my sig line in the last few days.
Oops! 8O After writing that just now, it came to mind that what I did was ADD those items for the first time not CHANGE those items from an existing one, so indeed you may very well be on to something Emerald Sky.
Sorry to keep you running in circles Mol.
Thanks for taking care of us.:)

internet explorer 5.5 here mol, and whatever the problem is it seems to be selective, as noted it didn't hit me until i added a signature line while several others noticed it a few days before me, thanks for checking in on it and good luck finding the glitch, we miss our pretty pictures.

It's true.It happened when I changed my avatar and my signature.I have tried IE,MSN Explorer.I lost avatars,"advanced" smilies, and so forth. When I log out it works fine. And I did not have a problem before ,so why would I now?How frustrating!!!!

This must be a cookie issue with the board software of the server ... just a guess ... it is not processing cookies as it should.

Ok. Either its fixed or I am going crazy, because I did some debugging and changed some code and now I have edited my sig and I can still see the avatars.

mol, we know you're doing the best you can and you'll get it sorted out eventually, and if it can't be sorted out well we'll miss the 'pretty pictures' but there's much more to this than just the avatars, we won't desert you.

Gunner is quite right, the avatars are cool, but there is much more than the pretty pictures!

Regarding Avatars - I saw Blue's post and the resulting replies supposedly giving links but I couldn't open any of them - can anyone help?

gunner
May 8th, 2004, 12:40 PM
actually that might be because the thread is almost 3 years old, mol fixed the avatar problem long ago. no worries, keep digging in the archives, it gets a bit musty and dusty but there's lots of interesting stuff.

Hey, gunner, long time no see! :D
