Thank you all so much! I am so happy to be back!!:heartthro :heartthro I was lonesome!:(
Actually Phoenix, If the hacker ( or cracker as I have been informed that it is not in the spirit of hacking to destroy) knows what commands to give your comp once they're inside your system they can definately cause physical damage. There are viruses now that they can load directly to your system that will destroy your boot disk sectors rendering it ( the hd) garbage. Through dos they can instruct your comp to open/close your cd-rom drives. They can instruct your hd to keep spinning up and burn it out, same with your other drives and cpu fan; causing the system to over heat and burn out. We still haven't determined exactly what they did to my hard drive but they flashed my mother board and screwed the bios. From testing the board as much as we could here, it also appeared they burned my vid and pci slots with the flash. I have to send it back to the manufacturer to see if they can fix it at all. And if they can, have to pay for it as it is off warrenty. If all hackers could do is screw up your software or os, firewalls wouldn't be as nesscesary. Reinstalling software is annoying but fixable. It's the physical damage that is a serious problem and it is in fact do-able. Most People that do this don't bother with regular people. I made the "mistake" of letting a friend crash here a couple nights when he rode his bike 200 miles to see a girl down here. I thought it was romantic of him to do so. Apparently he owed people money, which I didn't know at the time. And they were convinced he was living here and I was holding out on them, so they took it out on me. They hacked me through yahoo messenger. Which is why I no longer leave messenger running unattended. It's better to be safe than sorry Phoenix. Do a search on hacking and cracking you'ld be surprised at what you'll find.

I use it too, but I don't leave it running anymore.. apparently ICQ has been just as bad for that and msn is getting more of that now too :(

Yes, I've found that the IM's are no end of trouble, and hence don't use any.
Glad you're back, Raven! Three cheers for your bro!

**Blinks** Good point--I hadn't thought about flashing the BIOS. Mostly because of the difficulty involved with identifying the chipset and then fragging it. And even then, you'd think you'd be able to erase the CMOS settings and reset the BIOS that way. . ?

I don't know if anyone is aware of this instant message services, but my son uses it...for it is pretty secure...it is called Imici. It seems compatable with most systems, but is more secure. Our family uses it. It seems more stable too...not as many problems. I don't know the cost but it is worth it to us. BB

Tried it all phoenix!:( :( It didn't make a lick of difference, they fried my board but good. Will have to send it in for an autopsy and see if they can revive it!
