Dunno if I've been having wicked dreams lately due to the stress of my body wigging out or the exhaustion from bloodloss, or what. But the ones I had this morning have been sticking with me. I'm hoping someone in here could give me an opinion on this.
[Edited to get rid of the stuff I already understand.]
In the second dream, this was the one that scared me. I was walking along in the woods with a daughter, ostensibly mine but not with features I would recognize as my own once awake (blond hair? both DH and I are brunettes, as are our families) and we were having a good time. It looked like a Sears ad for wholesome autumn afternoons, flannel jackets and all. I went over to a tree stump and set down a camera and set the timer on it, about 50 yards away. I ran back to my little girl and sat her on my knee, and we both turned to smile at the camera. As we looked though, the camera was gone and it had been replaced by a woman, laying prone on her stomach, holding a rifle with a scope aimed at us. My stomach knotted in fear and I grabbed at my child protectively. I heard a deafening crack and tried to dive out of the way, throwing my body on top of the kid's. I remember starting to scream but thinking that no one would hear me out in the middle of nowhere. I remember wondering who this woman was, and why she wanted to kill me and steal my child (a very specific thought-pattern). I also wanted to know why I felt so terribly, terribly cold and alone and stalked.
When I came up for air it wasn't like waking up normally. My body still felt like lead, and the image of that woman keeps haunting me, even now. Tall, with either dirty blond or mousy brown frizzy hair underneath a khaki colored baseball/fishing cap. Big highly-reflective "sniper" sunglasses, and desert/khaki-colored hunting clothes.
It doesn't make any sense to me. I don't have a kid, let alone a blond one, and I have no idea who this woman was.
My only thought once I was awake was that it reminded me of some stories about Lilith and the South-western/Mexican legend of La Lorna; both being myths about weeping/wailing/dangerous female spirits who haunt remote areas and attempt to steal the children of the living because theirs were taken from them/killed.
But it doesn't feel like a visit from Lilith, and I haven't read La Lorna's story in years, since I was a kid.
Anyone - can anyone - help me sift thru this mess?
