In what will surely rank as one of the year's more bizarre investigations, Toronto police are examining the circumstances of a man discovered near the playground of a North York elementary school yesterday morning impaled on a steel pole that had penetrated his rectum and left him painfully perched more than a metre off the ground, clutching a tree.
"Strange but true," said Sergeant Roger Marchack of 33 Division. A report said the unidentified man told police he had been stranded for about two hours on the grounds of Roywood Public School, near York Mills Road and the Don Valley Parkway, before help arrived at around 7:30 a.m. when a passerby spotted him.
