I planted a TON of stuff yesterday and now this weekend there is snow predicted?!?!?!? It's mid-April and I'm in the midwest??? Whatever. :smileroll

So I planted my gardens! This is the first year I have planted perennials and I'm so excited (but scared I'll kill them all) about it! Here's what I planted:

Butterfly Bush
Lambs Ears
Coneflower
Lavender
Yarrow
Delphinium
Astible
Geranium
Columbine
& some hosta's

oh and I have tons of mint. That seems to be something I can't kill. ;)

I also have some herbs going inside, I've been growing since January! They aren't doing too well, I know I started way too early, but I was so depressed this winter I wanted to grow something!
Thyme
Oregano
Sage
Rosemary

Has anyone else started planting yet? I'll have to get out sheets and cover everything this weekend when it gets cold. It was worth it to get my hands in the dirt! :)

I saw that in the news this morning. The mid west and northern plains states are still having winter, and pretty good at that if you like snowstorms..

I am on the east coast, I wouldn't have minded a little more snow this past winter, we got One crummy snow shower in January, then it rained ..

It has been foggy and rainy here for about 2 weeks now and today finally the sun is shineing here and the sky is blue.

um, oh yeah, planting.. I would like to plant a few rose bushes where I live, but then again, I would also like my own home and 10 acres to play with too.. the landscapers cut down everyone's plants and flowers here a few years back and we were all promised new rose bushes the next spring. I am still waiting for mine.. :wtf:

Even though the weather is becoming nicer and nicer, I am still holding off on actually putting anything in the ground because I've played that game before only to have a frost hit me and kill what I planted. In the last two weeks of April, I'll really start getting some more bulbs and annuals going. I want to get some foxglove, some daffodils and more irises to go in front of the sidewalk, definitely need more compost and I think I really want some hollyhocks this year, or nicotiana. I also want to get some of those barrel planters and work on container gardening this year with petunias and snapdragons.

I'm holding off on planting here too, a late start is better than nothing I guess.

I started some seeds inside, but I won't start planting outside just yet. I figure I'll wait until maybe the last week of April. It's too tricky otherwise. It's supposed to get warmer here soon, but I'm not playing that silly game! That's Wisconsin, snow on the weekend, 60's to 70's during the week, and I'll bet more snow on the next weekend! Ugh!!!

This is going to be my first outdoor garden, and because I couldn't start working on it in the fall, the gardening books tell me to expect a rather low success rate this first year. That makes me kind of sad, but I suppose it's a lesson in patience...

Weather has been dreadful here lately, hailing a great deal so it'll be a while before I can venture outside without a mack! We don't have much time for the garden until the summer... even then it'll be potted plants from B&Q here we come! :abanana:

I always wait till the middle of May before I start planting anything
