View Full Version : Ritual to break an addiction, like smoking

Hi guys
I did a bad thing! I ate some special cookies the little lady made, expressly for a ritual. They were so yummy, she baked lavendar in them, and only later did I learn that she was going to use them for a ritual that would help her stop smoking.
So, if anyone knows a good ritual to help her break this nasty habit, I would be grateful.
All of my rituals involve burning things and reading nonsensical invocations from empty pages, and drinking heavily. My path is totally lame in that we only have two published rituals, and one of them involves just clucking like a chicken. Lame!!!
Granted, I don't go in for this whole magik thing 9 times out of 10. But she does, and if this helps her quit smoking cigarettes, then I'll be a believer.

Well, I can tell you what worked for me, but you may not like it!!!
Knock her up!!! Smoking is a hard vice to give up, even though we know how stupid it is, kills you, stinks, blah, blah, blah. The only thing that worked for me was to get pregnant and then I had the inspiration to stop for the health of my kiddo. Never underestimate a mother's love.
So, no magik spells just love power!!! If you decide to go this route let me know because I can probably find you some websites full of information on conception complete with very cool illustrations!!! WOO-HOO!!!!:nonono: :loveduv: :smoke:

I have heard that Lobelia helps one quit smoking. However, I also know that it can make a person ill if too much is taken. So instead, she might want to carry some lobelia in a charm bag, and every time she craves a ciggarrette, she can squeeze the charm bag. Also, add some lavender, for calming, some tigerseye, for courage (I know that when I quit, I felt it was an impossible task.) And some comfrey which is healing for the lungs. Meanwhile, she should try to follow up with mundane means of helping her quit. Such as emptying, and throwing away every ash tray, washing her curtains, cleansing furniture, etc. Anything that could hold the fragrance of tobacco could increase her cravings.
I'm not a big Gerina Dunwhich Fan, but I know that in one of her books, she mentions a skull and crossbones necklace/amulet being a talisman which is helpful to break addictions.

Even this didn't work for my ex, she smoked probably about ½-pack per day throughout. Fortunately, Benjamin turned out fine regardless; and she's careful not to smoke around him now.
Besides, do you want to take the chance this won't work, given the cost is having one (or more!) mini-Lumies running around? :bigredgri

Bake more cookies... OR check out Practical Rune Magic #'s 1 and/or 2...
...but Semele's suggestion sounds a lot more fun... perhaps you could make more cookies while simulating making a baby... :T

has she tried hypnotherapy? I downloaded a program from Kazaa to quit smoking a hypnotherapy and subliminals. Maybe that would help.

Don't think the baby thing will work for my husband. He's serious about quitting this time and I've agreed to do what I can to help him.....so I've been studying heavily on this subject too. He wants to try in the fall. Our family doc doesn't believe in med's to quit smokin so were gonna change doc's.
He's got a 3-pack a day habit. It's gonna be really hard for him and on the family. When the date approaches I'll be asking ya'll to send energies to him. Your help will be much appreciated.

My fiance and I are both quitting Sept 1st. We have tried numerous times without success, but we're hopeful this time will be it. Aside from the health risks, 6.00 a pack is just more than I'm willing to pay.
Best wishes to your friend who's quitting... tell her she has a kindred soul out here who'll be praying for her!

FIE! I was going to 'paraphrase' a couple of chants from "Magick of the Chant O Matics" but apparently that tome is with my husband down Texas way.
All giggling aside, this old (first printed circa '78) book of Buckland's has been very helpful to many of us. As to the source of the chants...I've seen some of the very same ones in Al Mannings White Witchcraft book. Buckland gives you the standard spiel on the incense and candle color to use. I'd recommend finding the book (if you can't and you still want to know the chants, email me and I'll see if I can dig the book out of MK's bag...GAWD knows what else I'll uncover:eek:...lol!) and gearing up for some heavy duty meditation with the onset of the Waning Moon...a natural time to decrease something. Just my take on it. Best of luck to any and all who need to stop smoking. My mom never could manage the task; the day she died she was still chewing Beech Nut. Not the gum. Hey, I come from a TOUGH family...lol!:D

Hmm. I know a ritual she can skip to help stop smoking.
How about buying them?

A really good friend of mine swears by this:
On the night of a full moon (preferably) or during the Waning Moon, make a quit-smoking gemstone candle. Empower three or more small pieces of amethyst and three or more large pieces of amethyst with the power to remove your addiction to cigarettes. Now make a black candle (this can be done easily by melting those cute little black six-inch household candles over low heat, and then pouring the melted wax into a glass container (which you have prepared with metal tab
and wick). Now add the three or more small pieces of amethyst to the melted wax in the glass container. You may also wish to add an appropriate oil, such as Patchouli, to the melted wax, to give it
added power. Allow the candle to cool. You may wish to reserve a
small amount of wax to "top off" the candle in case it caves in while cooling. Once the candle is ready, you may begin the spell. Place the candle on your altar and ring it with the three large pieces of amethyst. Light the candle and gaze into its flame. Visualize yourself being free from the addiction to cigarettes. Visualize your cravings dissipating. Visualize the toxins in your body being removed. Hold this visualization for as long as possible. Now allow the candle to burn down completely. You may wish to repeat this spell for added strength. You may make more candles, or simply use a black candle, ringed with amethyst stones. When the Waxing Moon period
begins, this spell may be reinforced by empowering your amethyst stones with the power to keep you free from cigarettes and using them to circle a white candle. You may also wish to carry one of your amethyst stones with you to strengthen your magickal intention. When a craving starts, simply take the stone out of your pocket and rub it until the craving stops. Remember that magick tends to build upon itself...it grows stronger with repetition...don't be discouraged if you have to repeat this spell several times...it CAN and WILL
work...

Thank you so much yemayasdaugheter! I bet this will be really helpful. I was just speaking with hubby about this today and asked if he had been mediating and praying about this the way I've asked him to. (I told him I can do what I can to help but ultimately the responsibility lies within him.)
He said yes but as his "quit date" gets closer it feels more like a "court date" instead!:T
Again, thanks for sharing!

:boing: To go along with Yemaya's Daughter's ritual ~ the energies of THIS full Sturgeon moon are powerful for breaking free of old patterns and habits. Tonight would be a great time to do it.

Okay, maybe it was my fault I didn't hide the cookies, like I usually have to do with things I bake. But Ill tasted one, and he said they tasted weird. So I figured he didn't like them. I figured wrong.

Anyhoo, that said, thanx to everyone for their suggestions. I was all for being knocked up (because I think that's the only thing that'll force me to quit smoking at this point), but Ill's not down with that. I'll most likely be doing *something* as far as a ritual is concerned tomorrow night...but I haven't decided what yet. It will definitely include lavender, patchouli, and amethyst.
Blessings,
