hi.
/shuffles feet
kinda shy about asking for something for myself. i usually ask on behalf of others. i try to be self-sufficient.
i have a promotional interview on Thursday. it's for a Level 2 job. its a raise this time. not huge, but 5% if i make it past my 90 day mark. it also gets me off the phones, and lets me stretch my mental muscles a tad more.
long story short, i think i'd be happier with it.
here's why i need help: the two other people i know of who are up for the same promotion have both been here longer than i have. one of them was the guy who helped get me my contracting job here - he's been a tech since we were in high school. the other guy was someone who trained me when i got here. they're both more technically proficient than i am and have more hands-on experience.
in terms of technical ability, i don't know how well i'll come out in this race. i've been studying for weeks now to expand my well of knowledge but now that i know the date of the interview i can feel my throat closing up and my mind going blank.
i'm the best candidate in terms of personability, professionalism, and poise. in terms of technical troubleshooting skillz - let's just say i'm not as 1337 as i make myself out to be around work. (i don't believe it would prevent me from doing the job - i just don't have as much raw knowledge to show off at interview time.)
i'm having a crisis of confidence here. a hug or two would help.
