Anyone else feel the 'quake a few minutes ago? The epicenter was in Illinois and it registered as a 5.4. We don't get earthquakes often so it was really bizarre for us over here. I haven't found anything online in the news about it but the television networks have already picked it up. I didn't even know how to react other than to lie in bed and wait it out.
Will post an online news article of it when one comes out.

yeah...we get lots of earthquakes over here in japan. The first thing you should always do is open the door or window to outside or you could be trapped.

I didn't feel it so it can' have been that bad!
Certainly doesn't compare to the one we had a couple of months ago, that woke the wife up that did!
Then she woke me up, which really annoyed me!

Yeah, I felt it in Ann Arbor Michigan. I thought I was loosing my mind for a minute! could'nt figure out why I was shaking. I really did not figure it out until I was on the way to work this morning and I heard about it on NPR. I think it's only the second time in my life i have felt earthquake tremors.

I read in the news that it was felt in Kansas City, but it wasn't strong enough to wake me up here another couple hundred miles west of K.C. I've never actually felt an earthquake, but I did hear one about a dozen years ago. I hadn't realized you can hear the earth banging together way below the surface like that.

I'm in the very N.E corner of Arkansas. Woke up to pictures cockeyed on the wall and didn't know why till I turned on the news..

Was sleeping peacefully.
Something woke me up.
Like many people with critters, I thought it was the cat, leaning against me grooming or something at first....he can shake the entire bed when he's licking himself....
Hmm. Cat is across room looking scared, and slinking under couch.
Hmm. Bed still shaking.
Being half asleep at the time, once I woke up the rest of the way it had stopped, and I wondered if I'd dreamed it, if it had been a loud noise that my sleep befuddled brain had interepreted weirdly or what....
Thought about going back to sleep, but got up. Finally about 15 minutes later, the radio said something about it....Ah, so I didn't just dream it then....
I'm at work early now....just in case theres more though I moved the cat's food and water so that it was under the table that sits against the side of the couch and showed him where it was. If anything else happens he'll have his food and water accessible from his safe place.
No damage here.

We just had an aftershock. Table shook for about a second, and I could hear it this time.

I was wondering if thats what I had just felt. Glad I'm not crazy and it really did happen. It was so light that my tv rocked back and forth for about a second and the rest I felt as items on my desk moved.

Preliminary recording on USGS has that latest one at 4.5 on the richter scale:

Seems it would be smaller on the richter scale, but I guess not since I am over 100 miles away from the epicenter. I basically live in Louisville.

I remember the quake we had here a while ago, it too struck early in the morning and scared the socks off me. I didn't care much for it but they average only once in 20 years here. They're from the mountains springing back after the last ice age.
Sometimes quake energy gets transmitted oddly, it all depends on the bedrock.

I was sound asleep but SM19 woke me up and told me about it. I thought he was shaking his leg in his sleep as usual but I guess the earthquake was doing it for him.:falloffch
On the odd side, I could sense something was happening...yesterday my head was buzzing and my balance was off all day. Now the quakes have been and gone and I feel better.

......yesterday my head was buzzing and my balance was off all day. Now the quakes have been and gone and I feel better.
Yesterday I was fine, but early this week I had a 2 day anxiety attack (I've had definite issues before, but never like that).
My cat on the other hand kept vomiting every time he ate yesterday, but seems perfectly fine now....

My cat kept running back and forth through the apartment yowling like a wild cat. At one point his hair stood on end and I thought he had lost his feline mind. It didn't occur to me he was sensing something going on.

At the time it happened mine was asleep next to me (I think), until it actually started shaking, at which point he jumped down looking around wildly and slunk off underneat the couch. Don't think there was any premonition unless his feeling unwell the previous day was due to his sensing something.
But he likes to either hide or cuddle when he's truly frightened or confused. Running through the apartment yowling like a maniac only happens when he realizes he's not the center of the universe (only a few times a day, that's all....;))

I didn't notice it at all, but I guess some of my friends felt it pretty well. I spent a lot of early childhood in California. If a neighbors house on fire doesn't wake me, why would a tiny quake?

I didn't feel a thing here :hahugh:. But we did have an earth quake a couple of years ago. What we worry more about is tsunamis.

I'm here in southern Illinois, and it scared the bejeezus out of me. I've never felt an earthquake before, and I woke up with my bed shaking, the windows rattling in their frames, stuff falling, and the house groaning. It was pretty scary, especially since I woke up and was so disoriented and confused.

I spoke to Wyldwolf this morning. She is in Ohio and several people there felt it as well.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I felt! I live ~100 mi from the epicenter. When it was just the window rattling, I thought it was a train (I live like 50ft from train tracks). Then my bed shook like jello and I was scared!

Now that was Rock and Roll !
So 5.3 , or whatever...I would not have even woke up...
let alone , bothered to get up...I can not even count how many
5. something or other tremors we have had , over the years...
We don't even call that a quake...

Lol well this is my second 'quake and its supposedly the biggest one to have hit this area. It was alarming to me but I kept my head. I knew what it was right away though and I've heard that a lot of other people had no clue.

I had no idea about the quake, I slept right through it. I did have several of my employees and customers commenting on it though. One of my employees said that she woke up and her bed was shaking, and things were falling off of the walls. I used to pick on Willow Rosette, saying that she was crazy to live in Cali. because of the quakes, but I guess now I'm just as crazy. LOL This is the second quake in my area in just the past few months.

Well, my phone was off due to the fact our internet was down. Blame it on the quake or the weather...I don't care. I didn't have a clue you tried to call.

my brother that lives down in southern indiana tried calling me right after it happened, he said the phone rang for 5 minutes straight and then died which is unusual since i answer my phone rather quickly or my voice mails kicks in quickly.
anyway, the quake was a good time! much better than all ones i experienced both times i was in california. and i was only in an upstairs appartment! i wish i woulda been at my house when it happened, the upstairs of my house shakes when the wind blows! i bet it woulda been a wild time!

k, i spose i should actually give my account of the quake.
i think it was around 4:40am or so my time (i dunno for sure, i wasnt looking at a clock).
im laying on RD's couch watching V for Vendetta (after watching 3 other movies) and drinking ALOT cause i was in an ultra high energy mood for reasons unbeknownst to me and thinking to myself "why is it every movie i watch where theres english accents i cant help but think of....."
then all of the sudden, the couch starts shaking along with the glass coffee table, my beer, the TV, the pictures and ornaments on the walls, the books case, the curtains and blinds...... and literally the walls themselves were vibrating and shaking... in a SOLID cobblestone house!
at first in my drunkeness i thought it was a train as about 10 per night travel through the city (town, whatever!) RD lives in. but as i stood up i noticed that the floor was vibrating too and realized RD's appartment is several blocks from the railroad tracks. i go to her door that opens onto the balcony porch to notice that the birds are going completely apeshit in the dark and i knew right then it was an earthquake.
i open the door to RD's bedroom and before i could even say anything she said...
"did you feel that or was it you F-ing around trying to scare me?"
i said...
"no, it wasnt me, i think we just had an earthquake and im guessing as it must have been near st louis if we felt it this bad... hell, when i was in california the 6.0's werent even like this!"
she replies....
"at first i thought it was you, then i thought it was a ghost.... HOLY SHIT! WE JUST HAD AN EARTHQUAKE!!!!!"
then i started calling and texting people. RD's dad called her and said that the epicenter was down near evansville, IN but on the IL side. end of story... boring... i know. lol

According to USGS, we just had another 4.2 magnitude abot a half an hour ago. Didn't feel that one.
Anyone else?
Edit: It was downgraded to a 3.7 magnitude.
Also, how is everyone in Reno?

We will still be having aftershocks for a while and some may still be significant enough to be felt. Or so they say...

I didn't feel that aftershock, unfortunately.
