Have any of you read the book; Foundation by
Isaac Asimov?
I believe that he wrote a trilogy of Foundation books,
as well as a number of other titles.
What are your opinions on his books?

<blushes> Sorry....
<cleans up and wanders off, resisting the temptation to start doing a happy dance about the fact that others like the same authors as she does>

"foundation" is something of a classic in sci-fi writing. while, as noted elsewhere, i disagreed with isaac that does not affect my opinion of his writing. if you're thinking of reading it i heartily recommend it to you, if you have i suggest you look up his other titles in the series. "second foundation" and "foundation and empire" and more whose titles i don't remember off hand. isaac was a good writer and the world is just a bit poorer for his passing.
(by the way, have you read heinlein's "and i will fear no evil", that kicked up a bit of a row when it was first published)

 I love reading SF.
Isaac Asimov (personal pronounciation is "Isaac's Ass'll move") wrote some excellent stuff. I really like the magazine he started http://www.asimovs.com/ . "The Gods Themselves" is possibly my favorite of his.
The original Foundation trilogy is certainly classic. Decades later he wrote a couple more books in the series, and since his passing more books have been added to the series by other writers (Greg Bear (I'm sure), Robert Silverberg and Greg Benford(I think) and can't remember the rest, if any).
When I first read the trilogy as a teenager, I loved it. Rereading it in the late 80's prior to reading "Foundation and Earth", I found it only slightly stale, but still very enjoyable. I have yet to read any of the books in the series written by the other guys even though I consider them excellent writers.
I remember running around drinking tea and making some quote from the original Foundation books, back after first reading it. Several friends were in on it too. I need to get my hands on a copy and see what that quote was. Seems like it had something to do with being civilized or drinking tea being the height of civilized behavior.

I have partially read Foundation, but due to a limited
budget, I haven't been able to get his other books.

Any decent public library should have an ample supply of his stuff on the shelves.
I would think Vancouver should have a very good library, Mystique. Am I wrong in this assumption?
Also, used bookstores have always helped me cycle through plenty of books without breaking the bank.

I would like to get out to the library, and to other places...
but the Transit drivers are on strike, and who knows when
it will be over? Till then, no choice but to stay home.
