I am makeing a dark purple satin bag to store my cards in, and I was just wondering what everyone else stored there cards in. I would love to get a pretty wooden box one day.

I am a seamstress..make wedding and bridesmaids dresses and have leftover velvet material. It's synthetic so I hope this is okay. I plan to make some bags for my decks, some didn't come with a box. I have a tarot card box that has celestial designs on it for one. Then they all go into this two foot by one foot by on foot high beautiful engraved treasure box.

I keep mine in a silk scarf. I don't know what happened to the box since I've had the deck for about 11 years.

I keep one in the original box and the other in a small beautiful wooden box.

I keep the deck I use most often wrapped in a silk scarf. I did keep it in the original box, but it got pretty raggedy after a while. I keep the decks I only use occasionally in their original boxes. A lovely, carved wooden box would be nice to store them in. Perhaps someday I'll find a suitable one.

My Rider-Waite are in a nice little green bag, all the rest of my decks are in their original boxes though.

I keep two of mine wrapped up in old headscarves, one in a little denim bag I made, lined with the hankerchief they used to be wrapped up in (don't worry, I never used it as a hanky! :) ).
The other 3 are in their original boxes, however, I plan to make calico bags for those, and keep the boxes separately, as they're getting a bit damaged by constantly taking the cards in and out of them.

I keep my Vertigo deck in an embroidered drawstring purse, and plan on finding something for my Thoth deck, but til then that's just in the box.

A few of our card friends are still in their boxes; they are stored in a cedar chest with a few others in bags....these are the ones we don't trot out as often. Several (about 15) decks are in wood boxes; a few share quarters with another deck. Our travelin' decks are in separate bags.

BTW, several of mine have the tendency to want to choose their home...going back to the thread of whether or not they can get jealous....we have 3 decks who like to 'move' or 'relocate' from time to time....

(sigh) maybe I need to get out more:boing:

The many decks I 'don't' use are in their original boxes. I trot them out time to time to show my classes how different decks portray a certain card.

The decks I 'use' are wrapped in silk, tomatoe red! No black silk for me! I believe that since black absorbs that I do not want my decks absorbing anything passing by! red for vibrancy and life!

The decks I carry around are wrapped in silk with a crystal and have their own private carry bags.

Well, I have one deck that I don't use too often, and it stays in its original box. The deck that I truly love is in a dark indigo velvet bag.

No black silk for you, Tarotbear? I know a few people who believe that black silk is the best to store your cards. They believe that black is a color that will not attract energy, negative or positive, to the cards when they are not in use. I believe, each to his or her own. :)

Nope-- No Black Silk! I found out it (the color black, not the silk)depressed my cards.

Those who MUST wear black find that in wearing it , it opens their channels up and makes them more sensitive to the 'vibes' -- that's all well and good- hey, why not? BUT - to 'store' in black would not seem to 'deflect' any negativity...at least to me!

Once again, native Americans do store their good stuff in leather - which is a natural material- but I feel that storing my cards in the skin of a slaughtered animal...no no NO! On my feet - fine--around my cards...no no NO!

lol I think that black would depress my cards too.
Incedently about the energy that different fabrics/colours give of, heres a good link ~ http://www.reikicentrum.nl/~kinderen/colours.html

I also belive ethat in stopring your cards in animal hide the energy from that animal would come through..

Hmmm....I've never used black either; though I find that green works well for my Rider-Waite deck. If and when I ever get around to finishing the rest of the bags (they'll be blue)...

Yeah, I think that black would be depressing, but I totally understand the argument on why people do it. Flaire, it sounds as if you are making your bags. Neat if you are. Are there certain fabrics that are favorable for the cards?

I have several ways of storing cards.... I like the "Pot Of Gold" Christmas tins. They will store six regularly sized decks quite nicely, with or without their original boxes. And they are quite happy in there and I think the tins are pretty!:) My larger or odd sized decks I have stored in pencil boxes that I have decorated. Others that came as book/mat/deck kits I usually have stored in their original packaging. I make my own silk wraps from shirts I pick up from the second hand stores here. Any where from $1 - $4 for a shirt. I find that men's silk shirts are much heavier quality silk and easier to work with. I tend to favour purples (indigos, plums), burgundies and greens for making my wraps. I think the most important thing about storing your cards is that you and the cards are happy. I would love to be able to afford some nice wooden boxes but they are simply out of my budget.....

Also, natural fabrics are preferable to synthetics, though if you have a pretty synthetic scarf or piece of fabric that feels right to you, by all means use it! What makes you happy and comfortable is what makes the cards happy :)
Edited ad nauseum because of crappy keyboarding skills:p

Yep, I do - only because I can't afford to buy them. 8O

So far I've been using cotton, but I'd like to try silk sometime - time to hit the second-hand stores! :D

My deck I inherited from my grandmother. It is very old and while the cards are in good shape the original box was garbage years ago. She laminated the cards at some point along the way which make them just a token at this point, however when she gave them to me they were in a teak jewelry box my father brought back from Vietnam which is where they are still kept today!

I would love to have had a set of cards passed down to me. That is so neat.

Mine are all wrapped in pieces of muslin that I dyed by hand, except my Aquarian deck, which is wrapped in a silk scarf I got in London.

One deck, just in a silk scarf. The other deck, in a silk scarf, inside an intricately engraved wooden box :)

Neat story about your deck, how lucky you are.

My grandmothers deck disappeared when she passed on ( maybe she took them with her, I'll have to ask), so, with my deck , I have them wrapped in white cotton hankie that was grannies, and and stored in a little wooden box, that was also where grannie stored hers.

I have mine in a purple bag that I store in a custom made blue cobalt glass box. I know it seems a bit much but the storage process is so much more secure when it comes to bad vibes.
:heartthro:My deck is good to me:heartthro:

I keep my cards in a little silk scarf that's yellow/gold. Then they are put into a little baggy that has a tie, it is also golden yellow silk.
One day I would love to find the perfect little box for them, just haven't seen one I like yet. I'm still looking though! ;)

In the original box, placed in a wooden box, sometimes the deck is wrapped in silk, and accompanied with some crytstals. But it is also rather often placed near a window when the moon is full so the moonbeams can cleanse it and fill it with energy.

I keep my 2 decks in a locking wooden box with my rune stones and some other random stones. They fit nicely.
