Since my cat, Frou-frou was a kitten, he was always
the last to follow his mother outside, and not very
far, lest a strange person came by, and he would run
back into the apartment and hide. He is almost 3 years
old and he still does this, except for Ariel.
I have tried talking to him, playing with him, while a strange person was in the house, but have been
unsuccessful in many months.
Is there some way to get him over his fear?
His mother is a get-in-your-face cat, but his father was
a scaredy-cat(no pun intended) so that must be where
it comes from.

P.S. I got a new friend on Tuesday...her name is Lexy,
and she is Persian/Calico. My supervisor gave her to me,
and she is a sweetheart...and she loves to talk.
Both cats get along, but Lexy is still getting adjusted
to a new home, etc.
Of course she hasn't met Ariel's cat yet,but we will wait
for 6-8 weeks for that introduction.

Miss Kitty is the same way. Just a personality thing, there is nothing wrong with him, don't sweat it. ;) :)

Rhett completely freaks when we have people over. He was a stray we brought inside when he was about 3 months old. He was raised with 5 other cats, all of whom are very friendly, so... *shrug* The one thing that has helped him a bit is that he is no longer able to hide in our basement when people are over. Being around more people because of no choice has made him somewhat more friendly when strangers are over. But I don't think he'll ever change, he is 6 now.

Congrats on the new addition!

Fang used to be like that too. I tried everything to get her to like people more (she didn't even like my boyfriend at the time) but nothing worked. I finally gave up and just lived with it. Some of the cats I have now just don't seem to like people either. I think some cats are just like that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Besides myself, Ariel and her brother, my cat only goes to
two other people.
There are some people he hisses & growls at, and I pay attention,
because cats are very good at seeing things in some people
that we can't.
