God, of all things. I've had my car a WEEK. No, a week on Friday. And tonight, the night before school, I was in the mall parking lot, and I'm driving away, and outta' nowhere, right when I'm behind this girl, she starts backing up, didn't even look, and I see her backing up and I'm like "OH SH*T" and so I speed up so she doesn't hit me and *CRUNCH* Then you hear this short little driver in a Lebaron with the top down scream out into the parking lot "F***ing God D***it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Luckily my friend was there, and he helped me get it all settled, gosh I don't know what I would have down without him. The girl totally said it was my fault, and it was this noticable dent in my back fender, so it's in the rear so *technically* she rear ended me (out of an illegal parking spot)... but she didn't know what to do either, so she called her dad, and he showed up, and my friend and I are all worried, going "great, he's gonna' start crap". But he was really cool...
Wow, I managed to luck out. Her dad looked at the damage, knew it was her fault and said "you know what? Let's not mess with insurance rates getting higher...so... here's my number, get it estimated, call me, and I'll pay for it."
So phew... luckily it's only a fender bender... but I've had the car a WEEK. A WEEEEEEKKKKKK... *sniffle*
My poor baby.... :wah:

now you dont have to worry about that first scratch!:)
accidents are learning experiences. fortunately no one was hurt.
I had this shiny red nissan 200sx one time, hadnt had it a month.
Hadnt even made a payment on it, when I flipped it, totalled it,
and messed me up some. Luckily my passenger was unhurt. (Thanks to his not wearing a seat belt. roof came in on his side.)
that dont mean, dont wear a seat belt, just means be careful!!

:) these things happen.. you have to remember its just a car, and that you and your friend as well as the other lady are ok... it could have been worse.. :) and best of all, the father was cool about it.
I hit a bird the first day I had my car...
and so many other things since...
(what do you mean where are my ex-fiances?)
its ok, you will get used to it.. :)

Unfornately we all have to put up with the other driver. I'm gonna disagree with Shnen here and hopin it's not something you'll get used to (wrecks I mean! the other driver will always be there)

That does suck. However as most of us know- you just about *always* crash your first car to some degree. So hopefully this is it for you.
I am glad that you are safe, and no boo boos except the dent to your car.
And one other thing- most parking lots are more dangerous than the highways!!!

Hey SS i had a similar situation once - and I hope this doesnt happen to you!
this guy ran into me, begged me not to report the accident and agreed to pay to have my car repaired - well i got the quotes, he agreed on the cheapest, i got the work done and then he declined to pay!
silly boy was a student nurse where i was working as a registered nurse (long time ago when we still trained people in the hospital).... he got every awful patient and evey night shift until he paid up - took us torturing him for 2 months before he cracked lol

I live in the city, and my car looks horrible from other people, street parking, garage parking... gets frustrating..:(

At least it wasn't *you* that had to pay the costs. ;) And it wasn't that big of a crash (thankfully)

**Smiles at Shnen** I hear ya. . . though all the dents on my car have been self-inflicted. **Blushes**
Still, the car runs (fairly) well, and that's what really matters to me. The appearance would matter if a car were something I used to attract the opposite sex; but that's what my good looks and charming wit are for. :bigredgri
**Waits for people to come back from clearing the frogs in their throats**
Anyway, SimplyStrange, I'm glad to hear you're okay! **Smiles** For future reference, though, never let an accident go unreported, even if it's your fault. Call the police and report the accident to them, then call your insurance company (and theirs!) and notify them of the accident. It may seem "not-nice," but as Scarlettvixen pointed out in her anecdote, people will take advantage of "niceness." Look out for yourself, and let the next guy deal with the consequences of his incompetent driving.

Listen to PB.......always report an accident!! I'm glad you weren't hurt......Oh, and one other thing........never say an accident was your fault...even if it was.......let the police determine that, just keep your mouth shut................

*nods* I third what Phoenix and OW said....
No matter how nice they may seem at the beginning...you've got *no way* to fight it whatsoever if you don't have a police report.
Always, always call the police. Even if they offer you cash up front.

Alternately, take the cash and then report a hit and run. :p

Not to mention some of the cars out there are easy to bend the frame on and you never know if something else is wrong from getting knocked about.

I got in an accident 2 days ago, my friend was driving during rush hour and in an incredible hurry. When she tried to get into a different lane some stupid ***** sped up to try and cut her off and she hit her. We are all fine but JEEZ.

Dat not good, Mist. :(
Anyway, we got all the insurance info, so if we really wanted to, we can slam him with it. :)
And I think my friend got a little sick of me 'cause when we were driving home I kept saying "Thank you so much." and such and I just couldn't thank him enough. I couldn't get ahold of my parents at the time, so I would've been totally lost as to what to do. Heh, he said that the only reason why he was so calm and knew what to do was because he did the same thing to someone once. (Notice the "did to" part :p) But I was just sooooooo thankful that he was there. He kept saying "hey, don't worry about it. It's not like I did anything special, or deserve a medal or anything" and I just kept saying "THANK YOU" :D
What're friends for, I guess?
As for calling the police... someone called mall security, and they were supposed to send a guy down there, but he never showed up and such. Who knows.
I am really glad no one got hurt, and my car hasn't gotten any real serious damage, so I'm hoping it'll all work out. :)

((( SS and her friend )))
I am so glad you guys are okay...I hate parking lots. The only thing worse than driving a car in AZ is riding a bike...
Oh, and SS, put a piece of Amethyst in your car, near your stick shift, or as close to that area as you can...may sound silly but...I have one that my lawyer's assistant gave me following a bad accident I was in...I haven't had a bad accident or an injury since. For what it is worth, I think this works. I have seen some amazing stuff, but always seemed to avoid it.

Amethyst? Really? I'll have to try that. Thanks Materra. I was thinking of putting my little Buddha in my car. I may not really be a Buddhist, but he's always brought me good luck. :)

Oh guys! Stop being in wrecks!
SS when I got my first car I whacked the crap out of it for a year before I got new glasses so I know it sucks to wreck your baby.
As for calling the police. Most of the cities in my area have private property restrictions. So in a parking lot, they won't come anyway. :( Last year a girl mowed me down in the Burger King parking lot and they wouldn't come at all.

I have an I-ching coin on my car keys so it is always with me. Since I put it on, no huge damage has come to my car :)
If I am ever in a situation where I feel a tad nervous (blizzards) I grab onto it and it calms me down and helps me focus... :)

I am so glad you guys are okay...I hate parking lots.
So do I. Especially the grocery store parking lot here - it's so crowded some times; and they have lamp posts in the stupidest spots... I smacked one good in June.. *SIGH* They're the worst things ever; but so are residential streets around here (especially when school's just been let out for the day). Sometimes I have to say that the best idea is to put the car in park and just sit in the middle of the street and wait for the kids to pass - because they won't move out of the middle of the street for anyone.

my sister kinda did the same thing...she was in the bank parking lot, and was backing out and smacked into the front of another car. it was reported to the police and information was exchanged, but she's paying for it in cash so her rate doesn't go up. i've never been in a wreck where someone else's car was involved...just mine...:) i'm naturally clumsy
