Does anyone know anything at all about Sun Magic?
I was mainly wondering if there was anything similar to that of the Esbats?

I don't know about relating sun magic to Esbats, or even if I do "sun magic," but one patron god of mine is a sun god. If I ever orient my work with things in nature, I rarely do it with the moon or moon phases; I focus more often on the sun. One thing I tend to associate the sun with is wealth, so anything related to money or jobs, I try doing say...either at dawn or between dawn and about noon (when the sun's strength is increasing), or right around noon/early afternoon when the sun is at its most powerful.
I don't really do much else, though, in terms of workings related to the sun, unless one counts work related with the god as sun magic enough.

Yes, there is. The sun cycles are longer, but there are "phases" if you will, and you can use those correspondences accordingly.
The winter solstice, the vernal equinox, summer solstice, autumnal equinox, aphelion (when earth and sun are farthest apart), perihelion when they are closest. There are also cycles of sunspots that you can pay attention to.
I am a lover of the sun, if not an actual sun worshipper, and I find these cycles very useful in my spiritual life.
I don't do a lot of spell work, but clearly the various parts of the cycles, and the relationship of the sun/earth lends itself to various types of magic and emphasis, and I build rituals corresponding to those things and use them as areas of focus in my life.
It's always nice to meet another sun enthusiast!

There's a book (which I've not yet read) about sun magic:
Everyday Sun Magic: Spells & Rituals for Radiant Living (http://www.amazon.com/Everyday-Sun-Magic-Rituals-Radiant/dp/0738704687/ref=pd_sim_b_njs_title_1/103-1759373-5600639)
See: Table of Contents (http://www.llewellyn.com/bookstore/blurb.php?pn=J468&type=Table+of+Contents) & Excerpt (http://www.llewellyn.com/bookstore/blurb.php?pn=J468&type=Excerpt)
There's also a companion book:

Thanks.
Agaliha, I knew about the book, just don't have the money at the moment to purchase it.
I thought there might be some web resources and such.

I've looked for some in the past for myself and didn't see many resources about solar magick.
Just a few sites like this came up:

Yup, come across sites like that myself.

Bendithion,

In my Tradition , Ruby Rose , there are some which are used...
Of course...retual on solstices...
However...One retual , incorporates a sphere , and burning sulphur
on the day , which corresponds to the New Moon , of each cycle...
There was an old belief , in our Tradition , the Moon , regenerated
the Sun...a symbiotic link...
There is also a chant , which goes with it , as well , those runes
of the chant , written round the sphere...they are the same runes
for what we call the Oversoul Ring...
If you are interested...let me know...

The winter solstice, the vernal equinox, summer solstice, autumnal equinox,
Wouldn't those more be Earth-related? I mean... that's all about the Earth's tilt, the Sun doesn't change angles. The Earth does.
I'm going to be the odd one out here, but I find that direct sunlight really washes out energy. It's so overwhelming. It dominates over all other energy... I mean, have you ever noticed how energy work is different, and spirits are much more active at night, when we are sheltered from the sun? I guess you can draw energy from the sun, sure, but I'm not sure what else you could do with it. Not to mention that it is so overwhelming that it can burn you if you stay out in it too long...
I mean, it's a great big fusion machine... I appreciate the warmth it gives the earth, but I guess I don't see the mystical aspect of the sun? It's not like we're Ancient Egyptians and don't know that it's comprised of hydrogen and helium, right? I mean, by its very nature, it's kind of sterile... moonlight at least is tainted by the very moon it reflects from. But I think that's kind of overrated, too.
Sunlight's energy is in everything - no food could be grown without it, no plants, no animals, no life. But singling it out doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me...
Kind of like singling out oxygen to worship from the air. The sun's energy is a part of everything living on this earth.
In the end, the sun is just another star, only closer to us. I love the stars, and I appreciate the sun, but I fail to see the point in worshiping it.
Just my 2c.

Quite a post , Sequoia ......half a rant worth...
Well...I , for one , do not worship , period...Sun , or not...
However...forget the science for the moment...
Psychologically...in many traditions...the sun , is seen
as a regenerative energy , and steady , or a constant...
The moon , as cyclical , and changing...
Now , in my Tradition , another way of utilizing the
solar energy , is as a binding force , creating a symbolic
constant , through sympathetic mgieck...
This sympathetic constant thought , goes along with your
point , of the spirit activity , at night...what we know as the
energy , loosened up , and shifting...locked down , more ,
during the day...
( though , sunlight , broken up , in a forest , or jungle , or
being in fog , during the daylight , was also a time and space
for other mgieck )
That is the best I can do , with love , to answer your post...

Oh, and I'll agree - filtered sunlight does not have the same effect as direct sunlight, though it's still somewhat there (I mean, physiologically speaking, you can still sunburn through fog!).

I'm a little confused as to what a "rune ring" has to do with sun magic?
But I'm also a little confused... I've never seen an asterisk used as a rune before?

Different traditions , Sequoia...remember...I do not teach
the Norse version , of the runes , nor do we agree at all ,
they originated from that culture...
I teach Faery Tradition...and a particular one , at that...
So...all info , is in my class threads...that rune you are
asking about , to us , is pronounced "Ay - Yer"...
You may go to..."Class Study Sheets" , in my CoT Class...
Page one...PDF file...that may give you some info...

Well, I can see that the asterisk- er, "Ay-Yer", is pretty important to you considering it's on your glitter banner in the corners. What exactly does it mean?
Btw... who is the "Us" that you always refer to in your posts?
Edited to add: Well, I've never known a rune to mean Beaver before...! But it's right there, on your study sheet...!

Bendithion,
RubyRose I have come across information about Sun rituals and magic before because like you I was wondering similar things a long time back but I will have to go unpack boxes in the basement before I can post any of it.
I do recall that Sun rituals were done at different times of the day the sun rise mid day and then sun set... and as for the other phases that I need to find again.
But as for myself I usually start when I can in the morning with meditation and what ever intent I need to focus on during that day. Also I use to have sun symbols to that helped me with focussing when the sun was not out.

Btw... who is the "Us" that you always refer to in your posts?
First...all meanings are on sheets , in that PDF file...
Well...let me restate that...a few , of many levels of meaning ,
for each rune , are on the sheets...
But...just a couple , for this "Ay - Yer" rune...
"Of Two Worlds" , and "World Tree"...see the reason ,
regarding the Faery Tradition ?
But this thread , is Sun Magick...you are welcome to go read
my class threads...might give you something new...
Meant with love...
Oh , the "Us" , is those of my Tradition...
Edit , to your edit...LOL...yes , Beaver is a Builder...like the Native American Beaver Clan...
And look at the shape...see the Beaver ? If you fit three of those two - D runes together , in
a certain way...you form a 3 - D cube , popping out...Beaver , as Builder , was similar ,
to the "Mason"...and that...is a story , for another thread , another time...

In the end, the sun is just another star, only closer to us. I love the stars, and I appreciate the sun, but I fail to see the point in worshiping it.
Just my 2c.
Yes, they are earth related, but since earth is the only place I'll ever live, and where earth is in relation to the sun affects how I experience sun, my relationship to it, I find those days useful for me to observe. I don't think my practice makes a whit of difference to the sun itself, but they make a difference to me.
I think in the end, a practice of faith is about how we perceive and experience our relationship to...whatever. And each of us, due to our life experiences will have varying relationships to different things, and they will mean different things to us.
The sun may be just another star to you, and probably many others, but for very real and specific reasons (one of them being Seasonal Affective Disorder) I have a deep love the sun and it's light and warmth.
Nights were a scary time for me, growing up in a troubled household. Night was when many bad scary things happened and I was trapped in the house with mad people. Day was when I was free, outside, far away from them. So sun feels like a savior to me. Winter, I was trapped inside again, summer, I was free. So there is a very powerful symbolism there.
worship is always a tricky word to use here, because it means so many things to so many people, there are a million threads debating it. For me worship is my automatic and authentic response when I am in a state of awareness about a thing. It is not a preordained or ritualistic act. It is a state of being I enter when I experience a deep understanding about something. Appreciation, honor, awe just flow out of me.
I get that for the sun on a regular basis, so yes, sometimes I worship the sun, because, well, I can't help myself.
I hope everyone has something in their lives that puts them in that state of flow that I refer to as worship. It's a wonderful place to be!
