Ra was most definitely an Egyptian God! He was the first self-created God, and the ancients saw him as a falcon with the disk of the sun on his head, or as just the sun itself. There are tons of myths on him, but I'd like to share my favorite with you, if you don't mind...
Ra, as seen as the sun would cross the sky every day, during the night was when he was in the land of the dead. While in the land of the dead, he had various trials that he had to over-come so that he might return again to the world of the living the next day to shed light on the world.
Many Ancient Egyptians saw his journey as a journey that their souls, too, could take after death. If they were pure, they could face the trials and over come them to be "reborn". This was why they mummified their dead, because they believed that when they came back, they would need their bodies to return to and be "reborn".
I'm bantering again...sorry. I just love Ancient Egyptian mythology, religion, and culture.

Please feel free to banter anytime. I find your stories fascinating. I figured that the whole mumification thing had something to do with reincarnation but I wasn't sure. I am very interested in the topic of reincarnation. I hope, however, if I come back I wont have to use this same old body. Cindy Crawford's would be nice....provided of course she is done with it!!
