Garnet is my birthstone and I'm curious... what is Garnet's association? What is its elemental association?

To me garnet seems more associated with fire, than water, earth or air.

Most people think of a red stone and then go FIRE~!!! ...Which is interesting because fire can also be orange, blue, and I think white. Then again, people associate those colors with other things, too, but I can tell you a common assocation is with fire.
Here's some info from Melody's Love is in the Earth: stone of health, extracts negative energy from chakras, transmutes energy to beneficial state. Acts with speed, brings creative powers to stage of implementation, allows one to recognize inherent responsibilty with respect to personal freedom and patience, stone of commitment, has loving power, helpful in moods of abandonment.

not to mention there are other colors of garnets. usually the most common garnets i see are the red ones. usually they pyropes. and these are from the new age shops. Although some garnets are black or green colored. I`ve heard of green fire ,but never heard of black fire.

Like was mentioned above.. a lot has to do with color... red, black, brown, green, pink ... and on and on.... associations will vary in some of these cases.
I find the pink variety very comfortable to work with compared to the rest... unfortunately it came from an isolated pocket in mine in Quebec.. one or two smaller pockets have been found since but not in quantities large enough to supply the general public... if you keep your eyes open you may find the odd piece here and there... There is also a pink manmade variety.... dont know anything about it however.
