1) What do you believe a deity is?
To me, all deities have their own unique "personalities" but at the same time, they are all part of The Divine. The Divine is so utterly infinate and complex that it's difficult to comprehend to us mere mortals, deities give us a more knowable form to concentrate on.
2) How do you see them, i.e. human personification, archetypes, etc.?
It's hard to explain how I've "seen" deities, more how I've experianced them. Djehuty has been a HUGE thing in my life... When I visualise him, he's usually in his best-known form as a man with the head of an ibis. He usually appeers in semi-darkness with skin that usually seems black with gleams of green and gold - barefoot in loose, brilliant white trousers. His face is blue-black with eyes that are no colour I've ever "seen" in the "real world" (hope this is making some sort of sense!). But to me, it's not so much "seeing" him, as feeling his presence. I know when he's around from this incredable feeling of strong, calm stillness.
Other times, I'll see symbols (often crescent moons) in dreams or when I'm looking for answers. If I wonder if it's His mark or not, usually I get a big "YES" before I've finished asking the question! Again, he doesn't "speak" to me in a way that I can "hear" in the usual way. He has a voice that I just sort of "feel". It's the most amazing calm, warm, steady voice. He's always been an amazing fatherly guide - often slightly aloof, but at the same time, very reliable, caring and wise.
To give a far shorter and more concise answer: I mostly visualise dieites in whatever form they were introduced to me (in books, pictures etc.) but far more than that, I know them by the personalities they show to me.
3) How does your view of deities correspond within your spirituality? For example, if you see your deities as
archetypes, how does it effect your rituals, prayers, etc.?
I'm pretty eclectic, so I work with it rather than against it. I let them guide me. My rituals tend to get muddled (I tend to put far too much energy into everything and worry too much) and the deities have always been wonderfully patient with me. When I *do* get it right, I usually get a feeling of "well done" (and when I don't, it's usually a "Well, you did your best!") from them. This is the reason I work with Djehuty more than anyone else - I always get the clearest "communication" from him.
