1) What do you believe a deity is?

In my experience, a deity is a non-corporeal being who seeks a relationship with mortals.

2) How do you see them, i.e. human personification, archetypes, etc.?

I work mostly with deities who are more strictly considered bodhisattva - souls who were once incarnate mortals but have evolved beyond that to a higher state.

3) How does your view of deities correspond within your spirituality? For example, if you see your deities as archetypes, how does it effect your rituals, prayers, etc.?

Because I see them as evolved souls, and their state as something I can aspire to, my prayers are as often "help me be capable of doing this" as "I need you to do this".

First, I'm going to ask some questions so please don't take offense. This is to allow a dialog to occur and hopefully expand on some of these ideas you've given.

Brilliant work, Wukong de erzi! :hugz:

Why do you believe that a deity seeks a relationship with mortals?

I think the reasons for deities seeking a relationship with mortals varies depending on the deity. According to the myths, Odin seeks out mortals to help in the battle at ragnarok, Zeus likes having a good time, and so on. :)

Bodhisattva in general seek out relationships with humans because they have taken a vow to help humans toward enlightenment.
