I was checking out my email account at evafan.com and received this from the Wicca forum there:

Young Wiccans in the U.S. READ THIS!!! You may be in danger!

It seems there is a man who calls himself SunRaven and says he is an Ordained Wiccan Priest. He is a convicted child molester that lives in Elizabeth City, NC. He has recently been trying to build a coven of young people. Watch out, and pass the info along! If you would like the full report, email me and I'll get it to you. The message board wouldn't let me paste it. ~Blessed Be ~Lydia

I haven't heard anything else from this person about it. It was posted on 8/14.

Anyone hear of this?

Nope....but I've seen other people trying to invite "young pagans" to an online coven and such, and that has made me wonder from time to time. Nothing ever came of it, as far as I know, but, it's always good to be aware of things like this, and keep your eyes peeled.

It just gets my dander up
(yes watch a tad too much Little House, The Virginian and Bonanza growing up).

I know that you can't trust everyone but what makes me mad is that these people are using the Internet as a new tool to prey on young people. That's what they are--predators.

Maybe it's the fact that with more press about the abductions this year I get even angrier. I know that numbers wise, it is about level with past years but when you hear of some of the boldness...like the other girl that was taken out of her bed and raped and almost murdered. (Thank goodness the neighbors called the police when they heard the commotion instead of saving it up for tomorrow's gossip of the day)

I know I shouldn't be thinking this way but all I have to say that when it comes to me or any future children that I will have, they better hope that I aim right between the eyes.

AMEN!

It made me sad last night.....we were at the ballfield, my son and his friend were sitting with me before the game,
the friend turns to me and says.....see those kids playing on the gravel over there, they could get kidnapped real easy.

Yes it's good that he and all kids realize the danger, it's just sad that in childhood that a one HAS to think that way.:(

Oh..hey..I agree with you 100%. It is really important to be aware of this stuff. And the internet IS being used as a tool for predation upon children, by the many sick and twisted individuals of this world. They are becoming more and more sophisticated at it too. Today, information on how to stalk children, how to manipulate them, how to go about raping them, is so easy to get for the pedophile, that it is absolutely revolting. Forgot the name of that stupid organization, oh..that's it..NAMBLA has their own website, with directions, pretty much, on how to "Do it" and "Get away with it". Pedophiles can now exchange child porn via encrypted photo's and such, via email , very easily. Luckily, there are groups like Cyberangels out there, who are watchdogs for this sort of thing. (incidentally, you can sign on to be a volunteer to patrol the web), and groups such as Cyberangels, are keeping up to date with all the new "tricks" these sicko's have in their bags. But..those who are so ill, and disgusting, are always finding new ways to exchange such info and stalk children online.

That is why it is up to every citezen of the world wide web, to patrol their own children online, and to also keep a wary eye out for anything suspicious they see happening anywhere on the web :)

When I said I had heard of such things, and that to my knowledge, nothing had come of them, I didn't mean to downplay the seriousness of it. It is serious, and we should be very alert, and very wary. Luckily, i've just never seen any of the "join my teen coven" type things being a proven case of child molestation yet. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, or even that it doesn't. I've just seen numerous warnings of this specific threaght, and haven't seen any followups in the news on it.

And yes, I entirely agree. If and when I have children, anyone who would even APPROACH them with an ill thought, would be dead before they could voice it if I could help it. Ugh..er....well...that, or severely maimed ;)

I guess why I was concerned was that the site this was on, evafan, is an anime (Japanese animation) fan site. Most of the members as I could tell were under 26 (I am three years older) and there were definitely some teens there. Some of their ideas about Wicca in general are cute and naive--much along the lines of either Buffy and/or Charmed. I'm just not surprised to think that a creep is lurking around ready to take advantage. The email was reported to the administrator and they said they'd look into it.

Danustouch, thanks for the info regarding Cyberangels.
