I think that it is about time we pagans had our own JC Superstar, Godspell, Joseph & the technicolor dreamcoat etc.

And I pretty much had an epiphany today that I could write one.

I already have several catchy songs and a lot of written Goddess oriented & Graeco-Roman material...the narrative thread to weave it all together into a cohesive plot? well, I have that too.

Concept I have, it will be called 'Hymns to the Star Goddess', as was the CD I recorded, as a homage to Frater Achads "31 Hymns to the Star Goddess"

(you can find that stuff here: http://devmen.iuma.com )

What I don't have, is theater & show contacts, a network of actors, singers, set designers, costumiers, directors, lighting designers etc. hell, I don't even know what I don't have!

The production will be in NYC, off-broadway I guess.

All advice, contacts, help, moral support welcomed.

Now how do I get from here (conceptual stage, some material written) to there? (glitzy low-budget off-broadway show with a decided magickal/pagan slant)

I seek your collective wisdom.

Blessed Be,

Start smaller...? Local theatres first (or even dinner theatres), and then get bigger. Or give performances at your local RenFests? Glitz is nice, but substance is far better. Your recordings sounded interesting. You have a plot, but do you have a written play yet, or is that still in production?

Cast and Crew can do double duty. Just book a place to hold casting calls and put an ad in the local newspapers or even post fliers on local telephone poles or leave brochures at colleges. That would also be another place to perform: colleges.

There was already a show in Beverly, MA last year that was very Pagan, as it was based on the Struggle of the Oak King and the Holly King but with modern-day twists and ideas.

Wow!!! Your plan sounds really exciting!! Bitch Magazine (feminist mag) has an article in the current issue about putting together small theatrical productions

http://www.bitchmagazine.com/

Hope this is helpful!!

Good luck to you!

From personal experience, the theatre soc I was in welcomed scripts, but the operatic soc pretty much handled the musical performances.. Perhaps you could try approaching one?

They may already have a lot of the basics (cast, contacts musicians etc) but you will need to have your script and music at or near its final stages of completion.

I may know of someone you can look up in NYC. Let me dig...

Thank you all,

Melysande -- I want to keep the ambition high and cut it down as reality constrains, so I am aiming at the stars. If necessary, I may settle for a more local show.

yemayasdaughter -- thanks, I will check it out!

Silver_Alhena -- Opera? I never thought of that, though this will be more rocky horror than pirates of penzance -- not sure a operatic group could cope.

At least part of it will be snapshots of ritual work, consecrating a circle about the entire theater, bringing the audience between the worlds
