Wow. Who knew there was a thread on MW supporting my Cubbies?

CHC is in PIT this weekend while STL has LAD and HOU faces PHI. This would be an excellent time to sweep the woeful Pirates and gain ground in the division.

Ouch!

Kerry Wood blew it for the 4th time in 14 save opportunities. For those who track such things, that's a 29% failure rate for our closer. I really wonder how long the Cubs management will keep themselves tied to the dream that Kerry is the answer.

Here's hoping Lilly can get the Cubs back on track today.

Division Standings: Cubs and Cards tied at the top with Astros 1 game back.

Thanks Kelly!

No kidding. Several expletives come out of my mouth every time Wood takes the mound at the end of a game. (MK thinks its funny - but cmon!)

Give that one up and send him down to AAA or something already.

Go Cubs! (although over the last forty something years I have learned to prepare to have my heart ripped out and stomped on by the end of the season.)

I've been unable to keep good track of sports this year, because of a lot of other things going on in my life ... I'm barely able to keep up with the election coverage! I rely on my BF to send me tidbits.

Just watched the finish of tonight's game against the Dodgers. What a way to come from behind and win. A run in the bottom of the 9th to tie and another in the bottom of the 11th to win.

A 3 game sweep of the Dodgers in which the pitching staff gave up only 3 runs!

Bring on the Rockies.

It's a great day when you check the standings and find the Cubs with the best record in the major leagues. Even more amazingly, the Cards are still only 1.5 games back.

Today's game against the Rockies is at 2:20pm EDT so it's a great opportunity to listen or keep up with the game while at work.

Here we go Cubbies. Here we go! :boing:

The Cards are a venerable team and the Cards vs Cubs rivalry is a great one. I never discredit any team managed my Tony LaRussa. Perhaps you should start a thread for the St. Louis boys.

I always wait until closer to the deadline to make my All-Star choices so that I have a better feel for where all the players stand. Those of you who are big Cubs fans may want to go ahead and vote early AND often since there are several players from Chitown poised to play key spots in the midsummer classic.

Wood chalked up his 16th save of the season, Marquis gets his 3rd win, and this makes a 9-game winning streak.

Gotta love Cubs fans - even on the road, all you can hear in the background:

Go Cubs Go, Go Cubs Go... hey Chicago, what do you say, the Cubs are gonna win today.

Totally have let this slide.

Cubs are still on top of the Central Division over the Brewers by 4.5 games, even though we have lost 8 of the last 9 games we've played.

18 more regular season games to go.

Go Cubbies! (even though I greatly dislike you right now!)

9/10: Cubs @ St. Louis

Cubs win 4-3

Wood tried really hard to blow the save. At least he didn't screw it up like he has the last two times he's been in.

Got to hear "Go Cubs Go" for the first time in about a week.

The magic number: 2

2 wins by us, or a win by us, a loss by the Brewers.... we clinch the NL Central Division title.

Last 3 games against the Brewers:

9/16 W 5-4
9/17 L 2-6
9/18 W 7-6

Go Cubbies!

St. Louis today, with Carlos "No Hit" Zambrano as the pitcher. Not off to a very good start so far, but we got a lotta ball to play. :)

Game 1 didn't go well for the Cubs or the Brewers.

Brewers lost 3-1.

Cubs lost 7-2.

Feeling a repeat of last year coming on... here's hoping I'm wrong.

Game 2 of the NLDS:

Darkest Eve

Game 2 of the NLDS didn't go any better for the Cubs or the Brewers.

Brewers lost to the Phillies: 2-5

Cubs lost to the Dodgers: 3-10

Next games are:

PHI @ MIL: 10/4 5:30 PM CST

CHC @ LAD: 10/4 9:00 PM CST

Z looked good, but horrible fielding played a huge role in the loss of the Cubs last night. Watching these games is like watching a completely different team! *sigh*

These could be the last two 2008 post season games for the Cubs and the Brewers if they don't step up their game.

Darkest Eve
October 5th, 2008, 08:19 AM
NLDS Game 3:

MIL beat PHI 4-1, forcing a 4th playoff game between the two.

LAD beat CHC 3-1, ending the Cubs 2008 Post Season.

The Chicago Cubs have lost 9 consecutive playoff appearances. :(
