May as well set you guys up too, right? ;)
We are currently looking for two the Paths: Santeria, Palo, Voodoo & Hoodoo forum.
Just a reminder for those who weren't around when the first round of nominations came about:
Guides are not moderators. However, the Guides will have certain powers so that they may now move, stick and close threads on their own. Guides also encourage activity in the forum, whether by introducing new topics, starting games, etc.
There will be no vote afterwards. When the nominations close, I will take the nominees to the other admins and we will discuss who we think will be a good guide for each forum. If necessary, I will take the list of nominees to the standing guide of an individual forum.
The rules:
1. Nominate two members who you think will make good guides and will have fun at it! We don't want to think of this as work.
2. If you are nominated and don't want the position, you can always decline.
3. No admins. :p (Your current admins are: mol, GreenEyes BlueSoul, Athena Nadine, Agaliha, Phoenix Blue, Xentor, Kaylara, Zibblesnrt, SwordFlameSong, SilentDreams and myself.)
I will leave the nomination thread open for (approx) two weeks (or longer depending on how many nominations there are). After the admins have done all their discussing and have chosen Guides, I will come back and make an announcement.
Have fun! :)

I believe that plumedsnake and also BlackLiLi , Sage Rainsong , Bluemoon13, Saggitario , ArtisteLiLi are all familiar with at least one of these paths. Soulfire has a good understanding of Voodoo from some of our personal conversations but he does not practice that. I am sure there are others but I can't think of them right now.

I merely serve the lwa in private...haven't ever found a house around here to make me an initiate (yet.)
I bow down to the superior knowledge of Shalaye in this one. :fpraise:

Who me? Hrm... I'd love to :) Though my familiarity is more with Hoodoo than anything else, I've done research into all the others.
And I second, third... ermmm... fiftieth the nomination for Shalaye!

I agree with Shalaye.
Aranarose.....definitely for the HooDoo aspect...I think you would be wonderful in that role and I, for one, would like to learn more about HooDoo.
I know that plumedsnake, BlackLiLi , Sage Rainsong , Bluemoon13 and Saggitario have all given very good answers and guidance (sp) several times...so I think any of those would do very well.
Artiste LiLi: Well...when it comes to N.O. VooDoo, I feel that I am but a babe in the woods (only 11 years study) and am still learning so much. When it comes to Vodou/Voudu, Santeria, Yorba, Ifa, Palo, etc.....I'm not even born yet. I've only recently begun my studies in these (meaning less than 2 years). My main strength is in the Appalachian Mountain Magical Tradition ("Granny magic", "yarbwomen/yarbmen", "mountain magic", "mountain healing", etc.). I'm not confident in my abilities to be a good guide in Santeria, Palo, Voodoo & Hoodoo.
Thank you Shalaye for thinking of me though. :)

Shalaye Sabariego AND aranarose!
I'm glad I stumbled across the forum...FINALLY!
My main interests now lie in Vodou and HooDoo....neither of which I've been able to find anyone to work with in person around here...which is not surprising at all.

Where you live at You will only hear about this from word of mouth. Are there any Botanicas near you? I lived there about 20 yrs ago, it has been a long long time but there are Voodoo houses and Hoodoo Rootworkers there.

Yeah, where I live sucks for any information :) I've learned a lot through my online research though. The Hoodoo aspects, a lot I picked up from my grandmother who was born and raised in the deep south. She didn't call it Hoodoo, it was just what she did when something needed to be done. Later, as I got older and researched things, I found out that's exactly what it was. She even kept a coon dong under her bed!

I must say: I dearly loved and related to this post. I live in the south, grew up in the south, born in the south, raised in the Appalachian Mountain Magical Tradition/Mountain Magic.........................and if I had a nickle for every time I have explained that we never called what we do "magic" or "witchcraft"...that, for us, "it is just the way things are done".................I would be a wealthy, wealthy woman!

Oh, I think my grandmother would have flipped out if anyone had said she was practicing any sort of witchraft! She was a regular church-goer right up until the Sunday before she died!
She had the gift. She knew when she was going to die. The Sunday before, she pulled all her funeral arrangement stuff and her will and the instructions for caring for my grandfather out and gave them to my aunt, who was made power of attorney. She told her that they'd be needed that week. My aunt did NOT want to accept it. Said that everything was fine, grandma was just worrying too much, etc. The very next day, grandma had a massive stroke, and was gone by Thursday.

The women in my family have always been called (well, to our faces, lol) "Granny Women", "Yarbwomen", "Root Grannies/doctors" and the men are known as "Cunning Men" or "Yarbmen". No one in our family (well, until me that is) has ever referred to themselves or any other one of us as "Witch". And, no one in the communities has ever called us witch...at least not to our faces or in any way it could get back to us that they'd said it. lol.
My mom died in April of this year and she knew. She'd know for at least 2 years. She sorted through all her clothes in Dec. and put all her summer things away in "long term" storage at my sister's house.....she knew she wouldn't need them this summer. She started telling me what to do and how to distribute her "worldly possessions" 3 months before she died. I didn't want to hear it.....but she insisted that I listen because she *KNEW* what she was talkin' about. My grandmother (mom's mom) was the same...she knew when she was going. My cousin knew when she was going and a month before she died she told me she was going to.........and she did..at age 25. My paternal grandmother knew as well and sent me a vision so I would not be upset when I got to the hospital and she was gone (I was driving to see her at the time).
Some of my people are "big into church", but they follow the path too. They just do it in a "Christian way" instead of a "heathen/pagan" way. We have every religion from pagan to Catholic to Buddhist (sp) to Lutheran to Baptist and beyond in my family......and they all "walk the path". We have a few that choose not to as well.

I believe that you can go back to 2004 and find a post by me pretty much saying the same thing to Semi. That Grandma never called this by any name, it was just how we do things and how we help people. I can relate that people called them rootdoctors, in the up most respect.

Yeah, it never got named for me until much, much, much later on. It was just what grandma did. The coon dong under her bed that I discovered while playing hide and seek with my sisters. Is it any wonder she had 11 kids? I remember one time, an uncle was dating someone that my grandmother did NOT like. Rarely, if ever, did she get involved with who her children dated, but she just saw this girl would cause trouble to no end for the whole family if she was permitted to stay around. Grandma did her stuff, and the girl was gone. That uncle shortly after that met the woman he's with to this day, several years later.

Nsala Malekum and alafia,
no we are never gone, we just have been quiet. the reason the class never happened is because permission has to be given first. permission was never recieved, so no class was started. but i have spoken with Ochareo and will be around.
and just as a side note, there is very little good reading on these paths that is true. that's because they are built on secrets. but generalities can be shared. bottom line it's learned at another's knee and needs to be experienced in real life to be fully understood. I can't describe the first time I seen my padrino or others mounted. I hope for all those interested or feeling a calling to these paths that you find someone trustworthy and moral to share their teachings with you. be careful of those willing to train you on the internet, there are many non initiated people proclaiming to be initiated and would love to teach you wrong or take your money for an initiation that means nothing.
good luck to all

What you say is most assuredly true. Unfortunately, not everyone is so fortunate as to be able to "learn at the knee". How wonderful it would be if everyone could do that. I suppose the best advice is to be cautious and be careful........don't rush into things and if it sounds too good to be true.............it usually isn't true.

I see. Not to worry. Although I think it doesn't necessarily have to be a class before information can be imparted. He could just start threads on different issues. Just a thought.

plumed snake you quite correct, with that in mind maybe i will take your advice and encourage Ochareo to as well. I think there are many of us here who can share our different experiences and hopefully some will pick some knowledge from it.hopefully maybe we can cover Espiritismo as well since the spirit is before the saint, i think it would be very useful for those interested and something they could easily begin to utilize and incorporate i they so chose. but this is in my humble opinion only, and is merely a suggestion.
thank you for reminding me of that.

Alafia!
I see that Yemayashija has nominated me for teaching. I dont mind teaching anyone my tradition. Santeria is very complex and not easily understood. The idea that people can learn about this tradition online or by links on the internet really do a dis service for themselves and set themselves up for failure. Santeria is really comes from the translation ---the worship of the saints. The name itself is not an accurate view or understanding of its true form a worship. Oricha worship is the real terminology here. We dont worship saints. We worship orichas. The saints come into play because slaves had to use the saints that represented the dieties of worship from the yoruba land. For the record I contacted the administrator back when I became member of this forum to teach a class. I was told that I was to wait. Since I have a busy life and practice my tradition and teaching online would be a privdlige of mine to share information.
If anyone gives wrong and misleading information I am obligated to correct them. Links and literature that is publish is distorted and not accurate. Whom ever uses such is only contributing to continue to confused and reinforce lies or false information.
I am an initiated preist of Chango/ Yemaya. I practice Lukumi. I practice this tradition everyday, and I am not a no it all. I humbly admit when I dont know something, however, I seek the guidance of elders since our tradition survives due to our elders and ansestors.......Iku Lobi Ocha!
If anyone is intrested or has questions please feel free to ask me. I will comment on some thing already posted if warrented. I can't make it an effort to go to every thread to validate the expression of others if there true or false. If your initiated priest then lets come together and share. If your not I urge you to be cautious of the information you provide.
Ochareo!
