I'm writing my thesis about Witchcraft in 'Macbeth' and 'The Witch of Edmonton'. All is going well, though way too slow... But that's me. I'll have to struggle, but I'll get there, I have to.

In my first chapter, an overview of the Jacobean period, I have the feeling I need just a tad bit more. I'm actually looking for some official (If that's even possible) statistics about the witch burnings and hangings. Even possible, from as much countries as possible...

It seems an impossible task, and I'm wondering if somebody can help me out. I tried Google, but I don't know what keywords to use. And the pile of books in my room doesn't help me out either...

Whatever source you use, please let me know too. If I quote, I have to put in my 'Works Cited'.

Ronald Hutton is someone who's pretty reliable about these kind of things; even if you can't find what you're looking for there, you might be able to from the sources he refers to.

Here are a couple of articles that might help:

http://www.tangledmoon.org/witchhunt.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_trials_in_Early_Modern_Europe (includes a table of known and provable witch-trial statistics based on Hutton's research)
