I need some sort of ritual for protecting my home. However I live in an apartment which for me complicates things some since the protectionrituals I've used before includes circles around the whole house...
I just want something to help protect my home, even some sort of blessing might do well...

There are many ways to cleanse a house, and it's not entirely necessary to circle the house - having been in an apartment before I KNOW how hard that would be! hehe
Here's some things that I've done over the years to cleanse my houses:
1. Use a smudge stick or some incense (good ones include sage, sandalwood, or dragon's blood) to cleanse the rooms one by one. Visualise all the energies being purified or leaving. Be sure to smudge the corners of each room and doubly around windows and doors. You might like to draw a protective symbol such as the pentagram at the windows and doors.
2. Go around all the walls of the house/apartment and sprinkle salt along the skirting, doubling it at windows and doors. While doing this, keep the visualisation of white light coming into the house to protect it, and the salt cleansing anything that crosses it's path.
3. Place consecrated amethyst stones in the four far corners of the house. Consecrate them to protect the house before doing so. I have also heard that in stead of using amethyst, using a whole nutmeg in all four corners works too.
You might also like to try this ritual which comes from a friend's site:
HOUSE PROTECTION SPELL
You will need:
A Clay pottery jar,
And enough natural colored stone to fill the jar that you have collected.
What to do:
Hold one stone in your protective hand.
Visualize the stone emitting protective energies.
As you visualize, say these or similar words:
Stone from the mountain,
Stone from the well;
Stone from the desert,
Charge now my spell!
Place the stone into the pot, saying these or similar words:
Into the pot I place this stone
To guard my hearth, my house, my home.
Repeat the entire procedure with each stone. This will take come time, depending on the size of the jare that you have chosen. When the jar is full, place it (uncovered) somewhere in your home, while saying:
Pot of stones,
Guard this place;
Send all ill
Far apace!
Send it back
'Neath the ground;
Bury it;
It is bound!

Do this at the new moon, when you can see a fine crescent
in the sky. Prepare your house by cleaning it thoroughly,
getting in touch with your things, even doing laundry. For
your floor, prepare a quart of hot water and steep some basil
in it(after you have already washed the floor as usual).
Prepare another dish of water steeped with verbena or witche's
broom(Scotch broom). Even yellow duck is fine. Light your
thurible and place frankincense and myrrh into it. Also get a
fresh egg, and write your name three times on it with an art pen
(or any other pen you love). Pass it through the incense smoke
and say:
In the name of Habondia, lady of plenty, in the name of
Fortuna, lady who weaves the threads of my life, in the
name of the fair Diana, the huntress of the night, may my
person be blessed with security. May evil men stay away
from my house! May nothing but good pass across my
threshold!
Now open your doors and place your incense in the doorway from
which the wind blows, so that the smoke gets swept through
your space. Meanwhile, wash your floors with the basil water to
bring happiness and good fortune into the house. Then take the
verbena and sprinkle it in all the corners of your house, repeating
the same blessing. Now take the incense and walk three times
around your space on the outside. If you have any windows that
show on the street, you can seal them with your incense by
drawing the pentagram of protection in the air, and again at any
entrances, doors, or openings.
When you have completed your circles, bury your egg in the
earth just outside of your home, or if it is an apartment, bury it
in a pot of earth. You can then put flowers in it and keep the pot
at your door.
Good protection herbs are rue, periwinkle, verbena, lemon verbena, myrtle tree, and even geraniums. These herbs are
regarded as familiars from the queendom of plants.
Then close the house and let it fill with the sacred fumes of
frankincense and myrrh.
To complete this spell, clean your altar at night and perform a
self-blessing, and go to sleep with a white candle in a glass jar
burning on your altar.
Treat your car or motorcycle the same way as your house.
Walk around it three times(always from east to south) saying
your blessings(improvise), and then fill your car or motorcycle
with the scent.
This spell is definitely a must for women in patriarchal oppression.
I learned this from Z. Budapest, Holy Book of Women's Mysteries, and adopted it to my personal needs, circumstances, etc.
Hope this works for you. :)
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore

I've heard placing garnets in the 4 corners of your home will protect it against fire.

Since we're discussing cleansing rooms in another thread, I thought I'd post a few house protection spells and recipes for incense, oils and sachets that came to me in an e-mail this morning:
*For a Peaceful House*
by Scott Cunningham & David Harrington
If your household is being rocked by disturbances from an outside
source, gather freshly cut Parsley and place it in a pan of water and let it soak for nine minutes, then sprinkle the water throughout the house while visualizing a calm environment. Harmony should be restored.
For in-house disturbances, heat three cups of water until just boiling. Put three teaspoons of dried Valerian root in a teapot and pour the hot water over this. Let steep for thirteen minutes, strain and sprinkle the mixture around the home. This should halt the strife.
*House Purification Incense*
by Scott Cunningham & David Harrington
1 part Cedar
1 part Sandalwood
1 part Myrrh
Grind, mix and burn in the house when needed.
*Simple Household Purification Incense*
by Scott Cunningham & David Harrington
1 part Sandalwood
1 part Cinnamon
Grind together in the motar and burn as needed.
*Home Protection Oil*
by Ray T. Malbrough
Anointed on charms designed to protect the home from evil. Sprinkled about the home to keep evil influences away.
Use equal parts of the following:
Five-Fingergrass, Sandalwood, Gardenia petals and Purslane herb. Add two tablespoons of this mixture to two ounces of oil.
One pinch of blessed salt is put into each bottle of oil made.

Interesting...I've never heard of parsley being used like that. Sounds cool, though. Is the point of the valerian to put the troubles to sleep?:)
Neat info!

:) I'm glad you liked them. Another method I've been told about involves placing lemon in a bowl of water. When the lemon turns black, negative energy in the area has been absorbed.

Melt white wax in a container or candle holder and place a black candle in the center. Once you have done this, do not touch either of them and do not light the candle. Place this in the room where you want negativity to be absorbed in an area where it will not be touched, never lighting the candle. When you feel that it is full, bury it and make a new one.

I just made 2 car protection sachets using Scott's recipes.
That is one good book isn't it.
I also use his ritual purification bath recipe before each ritual. It really sets the tone. LOVE IT!!!

Yes, I love Scott's stuff! I made a runic protection plaque a while back for my son and daughter in law's home that I found in his book Spell Crafts, another one of my favorites.

Here's a few little things I've learned.
Take a clear glass/jar and fill it with water. Add salt and let it sit in a room that you want purified. When the water begins to look cloudy, it's absorbed the negativity. The more cloudy the water, the more negativity absorbed. Pour the water down the drain and then rinse the glass. Fill with more water and salt, repeat until it remains clear. Then, move on to the next room.
This second one I actually stumbled on to and it startled the living daylights out of me. It was the first time that I had ever seen *salt* change color. Take a container and fill it with some amount of salt. Let it sit in the room that needs clensing. Remove and discard the salt when it appears grey. The room will be clensed of unwanted energies.
It is possible to use salt water and asperge (sprinkle) a room with it and clense it like that. Also, sweep it out, as you do so, visualize sweeping the unwanted energy out. If you can, sweep it out the house literally.

for all the wonderful information. I am learning more and more with each post I read.
Where might I find fleabane, DragonsBlood, and Valerian though?
Blessings to all,

sorry to bump this back up, but for the longest time we've kept acornes on our kitchen windowsil after my mother read it somewhere. Nothing serious has ever happened to the house, and everyone is safe, happy and healthy.
also, I read that turning the household broom upside down works wonderfully. Having the bristles in the air instead of the handle.

For a simple witch bottle directed at protection you can add pins and thread (all messed up) and put it near the front of your home; place the rune symbol on the lid to seal the bottle.

to protect and purify i boil a lemon, cut into pieces, basil and marjoram until the smell fills the immediate area, then use it as a mop water, rubbing it all over the floors of the kitchen and bathroom areas (tiled rooms)
i always try to visualize us being safe and happy, with all the negativity and bad energies being washed away.
plus it smells really good.

I ward the doors and windows. I go to each door and window every day, but I'm sure others can do it once a week or less if they're more intune to energy. I make a pentacle over every door and window with my finger, but as I do I see a blue flame come from my finger. The pentacle is like a stop sign. I chant after I do each door and window too. Usually, "Goddess protect this home from all evil and may the angels guard this home and all within." Of course you can chant whatever you wish.
You can also sprinkle the doors and windows with salt water each month. And as you do that you can use the pentacle flame as a reinforcement.

One of my favorites I got from and Urban magic book, I believe that it was The Urban Primative by Raven Kaldera. You make a circle of some kind of grain (I added some protective herbs) outside around your living space and visualize large magical, protective vines comming from the grain and wrapping around the house/apartment complex.

This is a terribly old thread but I'm hoping someone can help me here. Has anyone tried either of the methods above that Cydira mentioned? I'm very new to this but have been feeling some terrible negative energy in and around my home. I have salt and I have a clear container to put it in. Is there anything else a poor broad like me could try without going off to the store (any store) to buy things?
