My boss is on vacation all this week and business is slow. Which is why I'm on more than my usual time during the day.
Anyhoo, I was reading the August 19th issue of People magazine and in the "Passages" column, it said that Matt "Gordon" Robinson has passed away!!! Gordon from Sesame Street has died!!! I'm so sad! :wah: I LOVED Sesame Street, it has a very special place in my heart. I grew up watching that show. As most of us here have. Susan and Gordon were like old friends to me. :wah: They came to my Dad's mall when I was like 4 and Susan dubbed me a "Sesame Seed"
Mr. Robinson passed away on August 5th due to complications from Parkinson's disease. :(

How sad! I'm actually old enough to remember when Mr. Hooper died, and they did a whole show about it....

I remember Mr. Hooper :( and the show when he died and the controversy over whether to deal with death on the show. I think the show will miss Gordon as much if not more:(.
Now I feel old too :wah:

Another childhood hero and storyteller gone. :wah: But so many fond memories for Sesame Street. :)
Did anyone else have the Sesame Street Christmas album when they were a kid? I loved it ~ it had Mr. Hooper and Bert and Ernie doing a take on the Gift of the Magi story ... now I'm traipsing down memory lane again ... *sigh*

Ooo! I had that album, MoonOwl!!! :D Along with the Muppets Christmas album...(*grins* Miss Piggy doing "fffiivvvvve goooollllden riiiiiiiiings!")
Remember the Christmas show that the Sesame Street crew did? About Big Bird and the Grouch telling him that Santa wouldn't come down his chimney??
Or who remembers when everyone thought Mr. Snuffleupagus was Big Bird's imaginary friend?
*sighs* Such good memories...they sure don't make children's shows like that anymore.

I have the John Denver/Muppet Christmas album and I KNOW WtchyChick has it to.
As for Mr. Snuffleupagus. He was my absolute favorite. Him and Ernie. The story in my family as my mom tells me, is I would squeal every time they would come on. And when Ernie would appear and laugh, I would do a "ernie" laugh too.
I have a stuff "Snuffy" on my dresser. My Mom gave it to me a couple of years ago.
I loved that show. My son wouldn't sit for it. But he would sit for that big stupid dinosaur. Go figure.

 Yup, I remember when Snuffy was 'imaginary' too! Do you remember when Grover used to play in that skit as the waiter? Or Monsterpiece Theatre? How about those monsters/aliens (what the heck were they anyway) who used to say 'yip yip' all the time?
And being in the 70s, of course, I also had this record (nothing like seeing Grover in a white leisure suit! :D ):

Christmas Eve on Sesame Street--have it on video! hehehe
Now I'd just like to clarify something here...it was the ORIGINAL Gordon (Matt ROBINSON) who died. He played Gordon until 1971. ..the gentleman who plays it now has been Gordon since 1972.
Matt Robinson was also the father of actress Holly Robinson-Peete (21 Jump St. & For Your Love). He was also the original voice for the muppet Roosevelt Franklin! For more: Click Here (http://www.muppetcentral.com/news/2002/080602.shtml)
I have been known for going on and on about the Muppets--I love them so much! However right now, I will share with you a great site: Muppet Central (http://www.muppetcentral.com/firstpage.shtml) They have all the ins & outs about our beloved Muppets!

I saw it when I was a kid. Loved it. Mom got me the soundtrack on cassette. I had that cassette until I moved to this apartment, and it suddenly dissappeared. Last year, for Yule, my mother handed me a present, camera in hand, I opened it to find the Muppets- A Christmas Together soundtrack....this time..on CD!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO! I love "The Peace of Christmas Day" and "Alphie the Christmas Tree" and "It's in every one of us". I think of it far more as a Yule tide album than any other holiday album I have :)
I also have a sesame street album from when I was very little, in storage at my parents. It is a Sesame Street folk type album from the Seventies, and it has Woody Guthrie as a guest performer! Songs include- Michael Row the Boat Ashore, I've Been to the Mountain (about Martin Luther King Jr), Garbage (with oscar the grouch, of course), and This Land is Your Land :) I can't remember the rest of them, but that was one of my faves when I was a kid :)

I remember Matt Robinson's Gordon. :( Yeah, I'm that old.
I remember meeting Frank Oz at a puppetry convention. He was there with his parents who are also puppeteers. I didn't recognize his name at first because he was using his full name...Ozerwitz.

I was looking through some old threads and found this one. Since there is a link to Muppet Central here, I thaught I'd bump the thread to ask, is anyone here a member?

I don't even work at the place I was talking about in the original post. And to see so many friends who have left MW responding. *sigh*
Cut to today, I'm home on a "snow day" cause it's falling ice outside and I live in the woods. no driving for me today.

Just making sure this thread doesn't get lost again. The rate at which posts are made here still amazes me!
Wanted to let more people see my original post. I just thaught it might be nice, since out of habbit I am on MC more than MW, (or at least I used to be), to have a Pagan friend to talk to there.
Edit: Yay, karma!
