Had to share this image with you all.

One of our VPs sent a company-wide email of this thing:

"AND YOU THINK YOU'RE HAVING A BAD DAY AT WORK !!

Although this looks like a picture taken from a Hollywood movie, it is in fact a real photo, taken near the South African coast during a military exercise by the British Navy.

It has been nominated by Geo as 'THE photo of the year.'"

I sent it to PB this morning, too. He says it's faked.

But I was right. He WAS the one to first be online this morning, not Wanderer. **Grins**

Hoax or not....if I was even standing on a rock a mile away, and saw a shark do that, i'd be scared out of my pants! It's so amazing that things so large, and SO deadly, live in our oceans. I'm one of these people who wont' wade into the ocean past my calves. I figure..."hey..I wasn't born with Gills, I don't belong in the ocean. Once I'm in there, I'm in THEIR foodchain!". And did you know, that Sharks have even been found in FRESH WATER? This, my friends, is NOT a hoax. In Mattawan, NJ, in 1916, Bathers in a popular swimming hole, a nearby creek, were all killed, by the same Shark. I believe it was a Bull Shark. Bull Sharks find River's a perfect place to give birth, and nurture their babies. After seeing a documentary on it on Discovery Channell...you also won't find me swimming in any Rivers.

I think I'll just stick to swimming pools, thank you very much!

You're fine in a river just as long as you stay upstream of the estuary.

For example, the Hudson north of Albany has no oceanic influence. (There's a water-falls blocking it!) Although south of Albany, it does... and even has tides.

Just swim upstream -- you'll be fine.

Although I'm reminded of a recent dream where I waded in ankle-deep water at the ocean's edge, only to find a shark.

Or my snorkeling experinece in Florida. I saw this huge, gorgeous, toothy fish & swam with it for a while... only freaking out when I realized I was in about 4" of water.

Fish later turned out to be a baracuda. ;)

Kblackthorne,

The only problem with your thesis, is that in 1916, in Matawan, NJ, Fisherman witnessed the shark, swimming so far upstream, they couldn't believe it, and thought their eyes were playing tricks on them.

It has been rumored up here along the shores of the Hudson of Bull sharks lurking in our waters. I've never witnessed this and I've grown up along the Hudson. We also have crabs and seals. There's also "salt water" pockets here too.

But that pic, hoax or not, is still freaky.

*Starlite NOT a Jaws fan*

A Quote from another essay on the Matawan Maneater says....

Cottrell did not stop to tell himself that no shark could be that far upstream, he ran for a telephone and called the town's barber, John Mulsonn, who was also the chief of police, then he ran to Main Street telling groups of boys headed for the creek, merchants and their customers: "There's a shark in the creek!" People thought he was crazy: a shark? In a creek 11 yards across at its widest? Poor old Tom's eyes must have been playing tricks on him.

Yow! Fake or not, that startled a genuine out-loud "Holy S***!" out of me!

I have a dear friend who must never see this. She was traumatized by the "Jaws" movies as a kid. (unless of course, I get mad at her... heh, heh  )
