I decided to create this thread for those of us who like to travel from time to time. My idea is that we could do, is provide tips on where to stay, or where to eat in towns of interest, or the towns where we live, or nearbye us.

So...to give you guys the "gist" of what I mean..I'll start off.

If you're ever in Ghettysburg, PA, Stop by the Lincoln Diner 32 Carlisle Street. I went there with my parents back when I was just a little kid. And I still to this day remember their incredible Fried Chicken, and their MASSIVE dessert displays. A huge rotating display case, and also shelves lining the walls with various desserts. These desserts come highly reccomended, as does their fried chicken:)

If your ever in Providence, RI, and you like Indian Food, stop by
"Taste of India" on Wickenden Street. A nice, quiet quaint restaurant, in the middle of the college quarter. The food is terriffic, service unbeatable and extremely friendly, and the prices, reasonable. (I might be biased, though, as one of the waiters used to LOVE to flirt with me ;) )

If your ever in Danbury, CT, and you like Buffallo Wings, Check Out TK's American Restaurant, that is, assuming it is still around. They have 10 cent wing night, and over thirty varieties of buffallo wings to choose from. Not your most elegant dining establishment, nor your most quiet (it's a sports fanatics heaven), however, the wings more than make up for the noise and atmosphere!

Also in Danbury, CT, If you like Ribs, check out Ernies Roadhouse. Nice dining atmosphere, and the best ribs in that part of CT.

In Danbury, CT, you'll also find a really nice Japanese Cuisine Restaurant, called "The Kabuki" on Mill Plain Rd. The Kabuki has many fine sushi masters there at your service, and serves a large variety of authentic Japanese dishes, in a nice, relaxed, peaceful atmosphere. That is, unless you go at happy hour. Then you're likely to be surrounded by corporate folks getting out of work, and preparing to party. Bottles of Saki abound (MOL!!!!) And they do have karaoke night :)

And if you're ever in Boston, in Harvard Square, check out "One Potato, Two Potato's" Bar and Grill. A nice Neighborhood pub kind of feel, very small, intimite, and friendly. Some of the best cappuchino i've had, and a great place to "people watch" :)

K, I'll play too:

If you're ever in Nyack, NY you MUST stop at either Turiello's Pizza place. THE BEST pizza in the county. And if you're a chicken wing lover, "Planet Wings" is a must.

Nyack also boasts one of the best Irish bars, O'Donohughes. Great Bear. Great Food. Lots of fun.

If you're on a boat traveling along the Hudson and you want to stop to grab a bite to eat, pull up to the Haverstraw Marina dock and visit Bayview. It's seasonal, so during the summer, you can sit out on the deck, have a bite and listen to live music.

Chestnut Ridge, NY, now this is a SECRET. Only known to me & Laiste, but since we like you guys, I'll share. Casa Verde. This store has EVERYTHING. Including a guy who knows TONS about herbs. He grows bunches of stuff in his own garden and has shelves full of them. If he doesn't have it, he'll get it. There's 2 floors to the place (it's an old house). Tons of rooms to explore and find treasures. Laiste & I LOVE this place.

Okay, that's a quick list. If I think of anything else, I'll post it. :)

:boing: :boing: :boing: My turn My turn...if you are ever in Brooklyn, New York...Make sure you go to the Brooklyn Diner (on the corner of Atlantic and 3rd Avenues) It is opened 24 hours a day, they make the best best best best best Chocolate Milkshakes (:hearteyes they put whip creme on them! :hearteyes ) It is also great for people watching!

If you should find yourself in Greenwich Village and have a hankering for some raw fish.. the best place to go if you are on a budget is Go Sushi (West 8th and 6th Avenue) And make sure you get some honey green iced tea.. it is to die for!

My turn...... If you're ever in Ipswich, MA in the summer (because they're closed during the other half of the year) go to The Clambox. Fantastic fried seafood, especially if you like clams (which I don't, but I do like the rest of their food).

If you're ever in Lynn, MA.... run away as fast as your legs can carry you. :p But if you don't take my advice, at least run as far as Charlies' Seafood for fantastic (if pricey) seafood to-go. (There's nowhere to sit and eat it, though. So either have some place to bring it to, or else get used to eating in your car.)

If you're ever in Saugus, MA, check out Dragon Island for great-tasting, inexpensive, generously-portioned Chinese takeout. (We go to the one in Lynn, but it's not as good as the one in Saugus.)

Oooo, great idea!

If you're ever in the Ipswich/Rowley area of Massachusetts, find your way to the Agawam Diner, at the corner of Routes 1 and 133. The bestest homemade pies, especially the custard and creme type (Banana creme pie -- yum!)

And of course, for the interminable ride from Massachusetts through Connecticut via Route 84, there's Rein's Deli in Vernon, Connecticut. I think it's exit 65? Long line, but great food!

If you are ever in Hendersonville, NC...get on I-26 West and go to Asheville.

Now, if you are ever in Asheville, NC, you have to go indoor climbing @ Climb Max (it's in downtown Asheville) And you have to walk around on foot and take in all the sights! :)

K...if you're ever in Lexington, Massachusetts, check out Kushboo (Indian) which has the best chicken curry under this sky. And, if ever in North or South Hero (I can't remember which) Vermont, check out a place called Rosie's for breakfast, which used to make blueberry pancakes as big as medium-sized woks:)

If you're ever in Philly, PA check out...
...Bertucci's on Spruce, between 15th and 16th. Amazing pasta, best Italian sausage and bruschetta I've ever had.

...Tattooed Mom's on South St. Fun bar, lots of odd beers, really good food (lots of good stuff for veggies), and the only place I've EVER seen Ministry on the jukebox.

...Shogun's on Tenth and Arch, next to the Trocadero. First and best sushi I've ever had. Decently priced too.

And if you're a bit south, near the Prospect Park exit of 95, go out that exit, and go up rt. 420 a bit. A place called Nifty Fifty's will be on your right. Get their cheese fries immediately. I hate cheese for the most part, and I still love these fries.

If you're ever in Milwaukee...come in the summer!

There is so much to see & do. Summerfest (the best music festival in the US). Rainbow Summer (FREE lunchtime concerts downtown). The State Fair. Free outdoor movues in Pere Marquette Park. Polish Fest, Festa Italiana, Mexican Fiesta, German Fest, the Highland Games, African World Festival, Irish Fest, Greek Fest (the smallest ethnic festival), Asian Moon Festival, Bastille Days (the Frech Festival)...& (drumroll, please):
The Great Circus Parade!!!!
All sorts of church festivals & the festivals neighborhoods hold (like South Shore Water Frolics right here in Bay View), or those nearby suburbs/towns hold (West Allis Western Days, the Franksville Kraut Festival).

And in 2003...Harley Davidson's 100th Birthday Party!

Oh, and you must have dinner at Mader's, a great German restaurant here (people come from Chicago to eat at German restaurants here). Be sure to start with the wild mushroom strudel. It's fantastic!

If you're ever in Bethel, CT Stop by "The Sycamore" Don't know if they still have 'em, but on weekends in the summer and fall, they used to have classic car cruises. It's an old fifties style greasy spoon hamburger joint that sells malteds like you can usually only find in your dreams! Little tables, checkered floor, and jukebox complete the style, and if you don't want to go inside, no bother. Curbside service! Best "onion burger" around, if you like your burgers a little on the greasy side, which..I do.

Ever in Danbury, CT on a weekend, check out Marcus Dairy for Classic Car cruise, great icecream and food, or, go on a Sunday for huge bike ralleys!

Also in Danbury in the Summertime, Free Concert's on the Green. And huge concerts up at the Ives Center. Danbury is also the birth place of the Great Composer Charles Ives, and you can tour his birthplace, or hunt for his gravestone in wooster cemetery (It's actually very near my family plot).

If you're ever in Lee, Mass. (why would anyone be in Lee, Mass? Oh..that's right. It's along the Peter Pan bus route) Check out the old Pharmacy right in the center of town (forgot the name of it), it has an old fashioned soda counter built in, with old fashioned fountain soda's. The kind where they add the syrup (any one, or two of about a dozen or more flavors) into your seltzer. Very old fashioned, and right neighborly :)

Ever in Upper New York State, Check out Mohawk Mountain. They have festivals all summer and autumn long. Celtic Festivals, Native American Pow Wow's, and October Fest. Not to mention, one of the curvyest, narrowest drives up the mountain. In a beautiful setting.

If you are ever in Charleston, WV eat at Danny's Rib House. Every time anyone comes here, that's what they get. You'll see cases and cases of BBQ delivered to the airport or Civic Center every time someone "important" comes, like say either one of the past two presidents. ;)

You could also try Mykonos which is a great Greek restaurant or Rio Grande for Mexican.

Afterward, it's Taylor's Book Store for coffee.

Of course really if you ever set foot in the state of West Virginia, my house is the place to go

Classics etc. Antiques galore.

In St Paul, MN...Grand Avenue...especially in the summer for Grand Old Days...it is a hoot. Cafe Latte' if it is still there...good food. Good music, and real Baseball games with the Saints.

Quincy Ma:
Check out the LIBRARY.. It's absolutely gorgeous.

Stop by Joy's Garden.. Why.. Because I said so. It's a little island by the main parking area of town across from the Firestone and Finnians restaurant. Theres all sorts of Discovery stuff put up by Point Websters fifth grade students, dedicated to Joy Hanlon.

Finnians is the BEST Sunday brunch you will EVER have.
Fried Banana's make the world go round.

Hull: The best ski-ball and arcades around right by the bay.
The shore here is BEAUTIFUL. You will definitely love playing in the large gentle waves offered by nantasket beach.

Boston: The Childrens Museum, Museum of Science, Quincy Market*definitely invest in eating clam chowder in a bread bowl, and don't forget to have some funnel cake,... mmmhmm., and ESPECIALLY The Aquarium.. which is boasted to be the second best one in the nation.

Highland Park NJ:
Corner Confectionary. For the worlds best ice cream.. just my Humble opinion.

New Brunswick NJ: College Ave... Visit the greese trucks as wel lovingly call them if your in the mood for BAAAAD for ya food. Try A Fat Cat or Fat Bich.. mmhmmhmmhmm.. yummy

Stage Left next to George Street "State Theater"
Trattoria Moderna

Call for reservations, these are Dress Up places.. great if you want a real romantic evening out before headed to the theater for a concert or a show.

Somerville NJ:
ALADINS RESTAURANT! FOR THE BEST INDIAN FOOD EVER.
The Hummas is MAGNIFIQUE.. really I absolutely adore this place
www.aladinsrestaurant.com
The chef used to work for an indian food place in NY.. apparently it was a 5star.. so it makes sense that I can't find fault here.
Becareful.. you WILL get SERVED. Napkins placed on your lap.. chairs pulled out.. the whole ordeal.

I don't know where it is.. But the Mohegan Sun Casino in RI has some AWESOME eateries in it, and they have great concerts.. I saw big Bad Voodoo Daddy there two years in a row now.. definitely awesome, and the scenary is great. Next year I think I'll stay over the night of the concert.

South Jersey:
Tuckahoe Inn.. family oriented, but still fancish.. mid price range.. good food.. nice entertainment in the summer.

If you ever make it to Boise ID, I suggest you go elsewhere cause it's REALY Boring. But if you insist on coming, The Brick Oven Beanery in the Grove is a good place to eat. And there is always Bogus Basin for skiing, and snow boarding if you come at the right time of year. There is also a Zoo (I used to volunteer there), and an old Penitentiary you can visit.

And If if you somehow reach a nothing spot called Adrian OR, (Why you would come here, I have no idea). Lets see, theres a store, hardwhere store, a restarant/bar (Food used to be realy good, but with owner change, the food now sucks.), a school thats going under, An oinion factory, some fields, a dairy. If you're ever in Crossfield , Alberta, again, run like Hell... but stop at the Burger Baron first. Hamburgers were voted best in Canada--and it's true!

And if you're ever here in Airdrie, and you don't stop in, I will cry... but you can stop my tears by going to the Silver Star and picking up Chinese. The best I've ever had!

Oh, and formerly NeferSesmet--I've been to both of those Chinese places, and you're right, the one in Saugus is better. Maybe you should move!

StormChaser, Mohegan Sun is in Uncasville, Connecticut.

If you're ever in Jewett City, CT, head into Arremony's on Main Street for the best creme horns you've ever had. They're pretty much the only reason to go there.

Danielson CT is the home of Zip's.. A great little greasy spoon diner complete with tabletop jukeboxes. :D

If you're ever in Atlantic City, *don't* stay at the Best Western. It was absolutely *nasty*.

In Webster, MA, you can find Wind Tiki, a cool polyniesian place with great pupu platters.

Westerly, RI has the Pizza Place for excellent non-traditional pizzas (try Rosie's Special- tomatoes & bacon!), and just over the bridge in Pawcatuck, CT is CC O'Brien's, a little pub with a couple pool tables in the back.

Hope Valley, RI has Lickety Splits, with the best ice cream I've had in RI..

Just north of Seward, Alaska is an awesome place to stay- Box Canyon Cabins (full bathroom, heater, full kitchen, cable tv, cozy bed). Right down the road is Exit Glacier Salmon Bake restaurant, with the best food you could ever want after having checked out the glacier.

Providence, RI is where you can find Castle Cinema, where you sit in roll-around, reclining chairs made of Lincoln Town car bucket seats, and enjoy a meal while you watch recent movies. Act soon though- I think they're going out of business.

If you ever plan to walk around downtown Mystic, CT, park behind Mystic Pizza. It's close enough for walking, and hey- free parking. :)

Salem, MA, besides being the Witch Mecca, is also home to the first ever candy place in America- Ye Olde Pepper Candy Company. Found down by the House of the Seven Gables.

And Salem, NH is where you find America's Stonehenge, a very interesting pre-historical configuration of stones...

In Burlington, VT is Nectar's, a cool restaurant whose owner had an album and song named after him. :) I've heard their gravy fries are good, but I ate breakfast there, so...

Umm... I can't think of any more right now... :foh:

Me next! :)

If you're ever in Concord, CA......

Lemme take you to our favorite thai place in the whole wide world. Been going there for ten years and the food has always been so excellent! Flavorful, spicy and just absolutely yum! The thai teas are sweet and smoky and taste soooo good on a hot, sticky day. The resturant is called Bangok Palace and is family owned. Lovely folks who have always been so gracious to us. Seabhac and I would have small rituals there, with little statues and candles on the table and they would never bat an eye. In our usual group, people get weepy eyed, so they would bring more napkins and let us stay after closing to finish whatever we were up too. And man alive, can they whip up a dish of curry that is so nuclear that you'll be seeing thru time!

About 10-15 mintues from here is a lovely little hole in the wall called Joe's Sushi. Fresh and tasty, always a delight to have something that good far inland. The man himself, Joe, is there almost every night and he's an artist! Must be a saint too cause I've never seen him anything but smiling. More than just sushi, they serve many different japanese dishes. Also, and this is going to sound silly, the bathroom is nearly a relgious experience because they have one of those very high tech toliets that has it's own remote control! Loads of fun, I usually spend about fifteen mintues in the bathroom, playing with all the features. As I often joke with my friends, Joe's sushi- go for the fish, stay for the toliet!

If pastries are more your thing, there's Alpine bakery over by the Concord BART station. I swear, I walk in there and just get high from smelling all the chocolate and cream! Go early cause there's a line, and rightfully so. For our handfasting, we ordered our cake there. Since we got 'fasted at Yule, we both wanted a 'traditional' Yule log. And the conversation I had with the head baker was nice. Once I made it clear to him that I wanted one that looked like an actual log with the mushrooms and moss, he became all knowing smiles and said, " OOo! You want a "YULE" log!" And to top it off he gave me a generous discount on it, telling me that " It was nice to do something that reminded me of my homeland, thank you."

Of course, being about 45 mins from San Fran, I could go on for days about the places you can eat around there. Bring comfy shoes to walk in and lots of money!

And always and always, drop by the Bear Cave here and visit with me and the baby! :)

If you're ever in Lexington, KY...

...the best bookstore to stop by would be Sqecial Media (http://www.sqecialmedia.com/) (yes that's spelled correctly ;) ). It's upstairs above Paisley Peacock, which is a great little clothing and accessories store.

For food, I guess it depends on your tastes. Tolly Ho is a great little dive on Limestone, on the same block as Sqecial and Paisley (you can tell I've hung out there a lot). Really big with University of Kentucky Students. Other than that, if you want to go shopping, you came to the right place. Lexington is just one big oversized mall. :p

If you're ever in Winchester, KY...

Keep going. Nah, you can always visit Boonesborough Fort, which is nearby and get some nice handmade candles and other neat little colonial items. And see a really bad reenactment of the history of Daniel Boone. :p

If you're ever in Mt. Sterling, KY...

Come see me. If you can find me. :hehehehe: There's really not a lot here. But there's a lot of nature, and that's always nice. If you go a little further east, you end up in Morehead. I went to college there, and it's a nice little mountain town. Cave Run Lake, Daniel Boone forest, and my personal favorite, Natural Bridge (http://www.state.ky.us/agencies/parks/natbridg.htm) are all nearby. And I'll tell you, there is nothing more gorgeous than sitting on that bridge on a warm summer night under a full moon and just soaking it all in. There's nothing like it.

Don't come to Springfield. Just . . . don't. But if you have to, look me up, and I will take you to see the Pennsylvania House -- the only cool thing worth seeing. Then I will take you to the Lantern, the coolest bar on earth, which is run by an 80 year old woman that can drink like a champ. We will have some cocktails, throw some darts, and have pleasant conversation over the ecclectic mix on the jukebox. Just don't say the "F" word, because it will cost you fifty cents!!

If you are so Insane as to be in Keeseville NY and you like Pizza go to Little Italy, amazing good Pizza!!!

If you are in Plattsburgh and want a north country exclusive you can go to Claire and Carl's on US 9 just south of town and get a Michigan. (it's kinda like a Chilidog only better). If they are closed for the season you can go to Gus' Red Hots at Cumberland Corners and get one there too, but Claire and Carl's is the original! Over in Lake Placid you can go to the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery and enjoy an Ubu Ale and excellent pub faire. Another summer destination is The Tail of The Pup on the Sara-Placid Road in Raybrook NY. Ribs and hot dogs and such in a camp enviroment and a playground for the kids...You know it's good, all the cops eat there.(that or there is the Troop B headquarters just across the road:lol: :hairraise )

Further along the way there is the Casa Del Sol a mexican resuraunt and the Hotel Saranac both in Saranac Lake NY...

In Willsboro, at The Willsboro Bay Marina there is a wonderful resturaunt. it's a summer place and has lots of quasi outdoor dining overlooking the lake and the marina and the best lake&mountain sunsets on the NY side!!!

Now across the pond there are numerous places in Burlington to eat...the Five Spice Cafe on lower Church street has amazing authentic Asian cuisene in a funky atmosphere. Then there's Halverson's and there is NECI's Yumm !

if you're ever in louisville, KY

go to the riverfront, which is gorgeous and then hit joe's crab shack for a typical but generally fun crab shack experience. if you skate we have a skate park across fron the river. our zoo is nice, we have a baby gorilla. and if you are into trendy lil places, go up bardstown or lexington avenue for random stores and art galleries. that's where the bars are too! except for the rudyard kipling, where off beat musicians play, which is on oak street, downtown. and come see my band!
and there is a hella scary bridge, go out 22, off the brownsboro exit on 264. take it out to the first set of flashing lights, where you will turn left. drive through an enchanted forest, past a family cemetery right beyond where you can see fromn the road, from the 1800's. and you will come to a small bridge. don't stop the car. satanists live in the hills (i am not kidding. please don't stop your car) but roll your windows down. the bridge is haunted by lost children, who cry at night. it is called sleepy hollow. or, spooky hollow.

If you're ever in Lee, MA...
check out the Berkshire Blues Cafe on the weekends. They usually have a live band on Fridays and Saturdays. But you may want to wait til Spring... we have to smoke outside of bars now up here!!

If you're ever in Stockbridge, MA...
Michael's Restaurant is a good place to eat, and they sometimes have bands too.

If you're ever in Pittsburgh, PA...
check out East Carson Street and do some bar hopping! The Lava Lounge is excellent... but the whole street is filled with bars, clubs and lots of cute little shops. :)

If you're ever in Ontario, Canada...never EVER come to my town. It's stupid and boring and old people in cars like to run people over. You know, like on South Park...

If your ever in Delta, BC... go to Vancouver. There's more to do.

Once in Vancouver, check out Stanley park, specifically during a holiday season, and take the train. It's always awesome. The aquarium's down at Stanley Park, too. (If you go during Autumn, it's an awesome place for leaf fights.)

Go to Grouse Mountain, too. There's a great (but killer) hike called the Grouse Grind to get to the top... or you can take the lifts up, which is awesome on it's own. Theatre in the Sky is fun, and here's skiing and ice skating in the winter... and there are the wildlife refuges, which are currently housing two grizzly bears and a pack of four grey wolves, according to the website.

If you're in Rochester NY, you should consider the mistakes and bad choices you've made in life that caused you to end up here in this spiritual sinkhole of a town.

Then go to Mount Hope Cemetery and brood about it. This is the oldest Victorian cemetery in the country and it's beautiful.

Then go to Lux at 666 South Ave, play pool, and have a beer.

Then go to the Bug Jar, corner of Monroe and Union, have a beer and sacrifice hearing to the many great bands that play here.

When you wake up and realize that the only way to continue to exist in Rochester is to repeat the process mentioned above, repeat it over and over, you should go look for salvation at Obatala & Shango on South Ave a couple doors down from Lux. It's a great spiritual supply store with tons of herbs and candles and stuff.

Then try real hard to get out of town.

This is a deep dark secret, but if you're ever in Daytona Beach Florida, there is a place called The Brickyard on I-92/International Speedway Blvd that serves the most amazing hamburgers you've ever tasted. They're flamegrilled on an enormous grill and they're super thick and juicy and wonderful. Everyone we've ever taken there has become immediately hooked. It looks like a little dive with a red A-framed roof, but it's just wonderful.

For Seafood, slide over to Port Orange (the town I live in), and there's an amazing seafood restaurant under the Port Orange bridge called The Deck Down Under. The food is fresh caught and hands down, the best around and they literally mound it on your plate. You can eat outside on the deck overlooking the river, or inside. The dress is very casual.

If you are ever in Mexico:

BEACHES :sunny:
Don`t go to Acapulco, there are better places like Ixtapa Zihuatanejo (beautiful place), Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Veracruz, Manzanillo and Los Cabos.

Close to me:
_witchball TEPOZTLAN, it`s a mystical magical place where there is a pyramid at the top of a mountain. It`s a 2 hour walk, but definitely worth it. The town is full of stores where you can get all kinds of amulets, crystals, artefacts, tarot readings, etc.
PUEBLA: A quaint tourist area. It`s an old looking but modern little city.

MICHOACAN:
A must go to see the monarc butterflies or huge trees.

IRAPUATO: :mmm:
For those who love strawberries, you can get buckets of strawberries for really cheap.

LEON GUANAJUATO:
Shoes, this is the grand central of leather shoe making. Cheap and beautiful shoes everywhere.

CHIAPAS:
You have to visit here.

Don`t go to Mexico City! It`s horrible, it`s stuffy, contaminated, madness, etc. :blech:

Ooh! Thanks for that, my brother's heavily into anime/manga/anything that comes in comic book form, so I'll point him in that direction next time he visits.

There did used to be a good sci-fi/fantasy book shop, mainly secondhand, on Holloway Road, when London Metropolitan University used to be the University of North London.

And there's a small stone circle in the Peak District. I can't remember what it's called, it begins with 'A', and it's shown on the map. It's maybe a 45 minute drive from Sheffield, and it's on a farm, it was winter when I went, and I saw the most beautiful sunset as I drove home, I had to stop the car because couldn't keep my eyes on the road.
