Since many have recently returned to school, I thought that sharing some magickal methods for studying might be helpful.
While studying, choose a favorite incense that you will burn only for this purpose. Carry a stick of it with you on the day of the test and sniff it prior to taking the test. Rub it on your hands so that you can carry the fragrance with you. The fragrance will help you recall the answers.
This can also be done with fragrance oils or perfumes and is not a method specific to magick. Research has been done in the psychology field validating that this works :)

If you have any kind of ADHD related problems then surround yourself with 'RED'. Yes, red...it helps.

I was decorating my notebook with some runes yesterday, to help me learn better.
Mannaz for reaching my fullest potential, Perdhro for problem-solving, and Kenaz for illumination. The Kenaz was kinda inside the Perdhro, if you know what i mean.
I was going to use Hagalaz, but i though it wouldn't work well with the Kenaz.

Silver Venus always advised me to use Fennel Essential Oil and rub it on your temples.
I don't have ADHD but I might try red anyway . . .

I usually either drink peppermint tea, or wear my peppermint oil. It's said to help you concentrate and remember what you've studied.

I've heard that burning basil essential oil helps for some to focus better and helps you remember things better.

Haven't heard that one, thanks. Or your info about using Red, Mol :) Also, playing certain types of music such as classical (I've heard that Mozart is the most effective) or some of the new-age type ones that help enhance creativity, etc. can help. The music should be played softly in the background while you're studying.

When I was in high school I bought jasmine incense and used that only for studying purposes. It actually helped a bit.

Ground and center or do deep breathing exercises before you start your studying, at breaks, when you finish and before and after tests.

Burn Rosemary oil whilst studying. Still widely done in Greece by students studying.

Use the runes or other symbols to aid in recall. Choose an appropriate rune and associate it with long items that you need to memorize. Doodle it on a notepad while you are studying or reading. The sight of the rune or symbol willl help bring the information to mind as well as add some magick to your study.

Well, this one's not all that "magickal" but I wanted to share it because it worked well for me.
I always took a lot of notes in class. Before a major test, I would go through them and type them as I was reading. The reading and typing really seemed to help me retain the info.

Definitely Rosemary - "Rosemary for remembrance"
Love having rosemary oil in a burner when I'm working at home. Also burn it when I'm doing my yoga practice, for some reason!

Reward yourself for studying. Take a break, drink a soda or some tea, go for a walk and enjoy the moon and the evening air. Pick up your favorite book or magazine and read an article or two. When you learn to reward yourself for discipline and hard work, studying will be much easier :)

I agree, Freyja. Sometimes I just start to feel overwhelmed by all the info and need to take a little breather. :)

It's also recommended that you do your intense study a few days before a test or major exam and NOT study the night immeidately before to give yourself a chance to be rested enough to be able to do well.

Do any of you use crystals to help you study or focus better? The reason I ask is my son (only in first grade) is having trouble again getting his assignments and homework finished. He is so forgetful and seems to be having trouble staying focused. He *knows* what he is supposed to be doing, he is very, very bright. But he just can't seem to get it from his brain to his paper.
On his way to school this morning, he grabbed his bloodstone (he uses that when he is nervous and needs a boost) and said that maybe this would help him to focus. I promised him that I would try to find out what crystals he might use to help. He also grabbed a hematite- hopefully that will help him stay grounded.
Any suggestion?
Thanks:)

Do they have assignment books at that age?
if not, i suggest getting a piece of paper or a notebook, with enough pages to last a while, and writing down the assignments as they are given. I usually forget after, but if i write them down as I get them, i'm good. I haven't not done my homework yet, anyway :).

This is what I found out so far:
for intellect/creativity: apatite, aquamarine, aventurine, bloodstonecelestite, emerald, malachite, obsidian, rose quartz
Have any of you had any luck with one in particular?
Thanks

I wore a hematite bracelet AND a malachite ring for a long time when I worked a very stressful job that required focus, and I was always able to keep my head slightly above water. So, I did have good results with these two stones ~ although I was actually wearing the hematite to absorb and protect from negativity and the malachite for healing and prosperity.
