Does anybody know anything about the Celtic Morrigan?
I've been coming across her name alot lately, a bit too often to be a coincidence!.
Thanks.

Hello, Shadow Storm. A few members of this community are really into the Morrigan. This thread here offers some good discussion on the Morrigan.

I think of Morrigan a bit more as autumn approaches. The Morrigan is honored at Samhain, so maybe that's why I think that she is connected with the upcoming season.

I had a dream about 7 years ago in which the Morrigan showed up and offered to "whip me into shape", meaning breaking me of bad habits like procrastination, laziness, etc. I respectfully declined at the time and told her I would let her know if I ever decided to take her up on the offer.
I have very carefully avoided bringing this up to her ever since. LOL.
Have worked with her in a protection ritual, after my apartment was broken into years ago. I wouldn't want to p*ss her off if I were a burglar! ;)

I'm about the only girl that isn't very fond of the Morrigan. She scares the bejeezus outta me. Not to mention that she scares the bejeezus outta me. ;)
I've just never really felt a connection with her. I've avoided her and everything, and the name just sorta strikes a chord in me that I'd rather not have struck... Mainly the name Morgaine is a lot like Morrigan and hence King Arthur and I don't like that woman. 8O
So.. yeah. I guess learning about her couldn't hurt.. and I might find that she and I have a lot in common. I dunno. 8O8O8O

I am with you, Loki. I find the Morrigan to be quite dark. I believe that the deities should have some balance: light/dark. Perhaps the Morrigan brings balance to the Celtic pantheon.
Even though, I find the Morrigan to be dark and a bit scary, I have respect for them. They can teach us about our unconscious desires and help us through troubling times. I respect you, Loki, for believing that learning about the Morrigan couldn't hurt. Hhmm. maybe you will find out that the Morrigan is like your Loki- they have a few mysterious sides. :shift:

Loki,
What's your problem with Morgaine? You might find her interesting if you step beyond the traditional "evil woman" tales.
ShadowStorm,
I don't want to clutter up the board, but I have some information that I myself have collected since she is one of my patronesses. If you would like, I can send them to you. Just email me if you want it. ^_^. princesstwi@yahoo.com

I don't really know my problem. I just don't like her. 8O I'm more the Merlin type if I read them at all. There's just so much about the Arthurian tales I don't like.. like the Lance-Gwen thing.
I'll be trying to find more info on the Morrigan when I have time. Mebbe at work.

*shrug* to each his own... although, as a side note, Morgaine was Taliesin's grand-daughter, and was close ties between the Merlin and the Lady, as well as among their followers, being as if they were two sides of the same coin.

Loki, don't worry if you don't feel a connection to the Morrigan. Some of us respect a lot of the deities; however, people don't feel a connection to all of the deities. We work better with some than others. Since you work with Loki, a Norse god, do you only work with the Norse pantheon. Perhaps you just don't seem to relate with the Celtic pantheon. Just a thought.

It's not that.. I connect with Airmed and a few others just fine. :D It's just the Morrigan that I can't seem to get close to.
She's so "gungu-ho womyn" thing.. I just don't like that. I'm for women's rights and equality.. but I still kinda like the woman's place is in the home thing... just some womens' places are in the home.
If a woman wants to work.. great! IF not.. she shouldn't be condemned by other women just because she doesn't work. That's just the vibe I get from the Morrigan. I know it's kinda wierd and it might not be what all you Morgie-heads get... but it's just me! 8O
I do work with Loki, but I don't feel a connection with anyone else in the Nordic pantheon.. save for Odin sometimes. I'm mostly a Greek type.. but I don't have a set pantheon I go for. I hope this helps a little.

Yeah, it makes some sense. I also feel a connection the Greek pantheon. However, I don't feel close to just any Greek god or goddess.
Some women who are into modern goddess spirituality have suggested that the Morrigan is one of the goddesses for women's rights. I can see that interpretation, but the goddess plays a different role in each of our lives.
Loki, are you looking for a goddess who plays a more domestic role? What about Hestia?

I've got Demeter and she's pretty close to Hestia. I'm actually working on a design for an altar to Hestia... any suggestions can go under the thread "Hestia Altar" in Magick and Rituals. :D
So now you know why Loki doesn't like Morrigan! You'd htink with a God like Loki... I'd be all about Morrigan. 8O

I'll probably be shot by the "wymyn" for this, but I agree with you. Women and men should be able to lead whatever lives they wish, not feel pressured by either their own sex or another to be or do something they don't want.
We all see gods differently, that's the beauty of this collection of individual beliefs we call paganism. :)

Well said! I totally agree with you. This community proves that; some of us are into the same gods; however, we see them differently. We are all unique individuals. Even though the Morrigan might be great for some, the Morrigan is not for everyone.
