View Full Version : Merry Meet! Question: Would you like to see Pagan board games developed?

I am a 31 year old Pagan mom and government secretary who also has her own company (newly formed). I am trying to find out if people would be interested in seeing Pagan games developed. By games I mean board games, activity books, playing cards (just like a regular deck - but with a more Pagan "feel" to them), word puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles? I desire to bring something to the community that is not only fun, but informative as well.
It is my goal to have games that educate, entertain and inform the Pagan mind. All these things will be developed for ALL age groups and (eventually) will represent ALL Paths and Traditions. I have a well known Pagan artist (Robin Wood) who has agreed to allow me to use 5 cards from her Tarot Deck for the first game which is already in development (a Pagan trivia game which is called "Elemental Challenge"TM).
Would you - as a Pagan consumer - like to see these kinds of things on the shelves of your local (or virtual) metaphysical shops? (For those who are interested in more, I have placed my website in my profile and you can also e-mail me - as well as respond here.)
I thank you all for your time in reading this and look to hear about your opinions and thoughts on this matter.
Blessed Be!

Can we have a pagan monopoly game? I can't wait to say "you've landed on Stonehenge, you owe me two hundred sticks of incense".
Instead of the shoe, can I be the Chalice?
And what about the Get out of Church free cards?
Chance cards would have to be Karma cards...

Your feed back has been what I truly needed to hear - honest opinions and what you'd really WANT in a Pagan game! Thank you all so very much for responding ... I look forward to getting more feedback, so you guys keep it coming for me! I'm off to a gathering Friday to present this as a workshop and I am trying to get ready for it, so don't be upset if you don't hear from me before Monday! Keep posting!
Blessed Be to All!

That is the best idea I have heard of in a long time.
It would also make it easier for people new to paganism to understand the lingo and such.
I would most definitely be interested.

Pagan Monopoly! I want one of those! :D
And what about the Game of Life? You could go through your first ritual, put down the down payments on your athame or cauldron, meet your boyfriend in the woods for your first date/spellcasting session....
I think we should have a Pagan version of The Sims. You know, you could make your Sim wave her hands over a cauldron and immediately millions of free roses would spring up in the garden. :floating:

One addition - be sure to make them respectful and fun, and not overly fluffy or "commercial feeling".
Other than that, it sounds like a great idea!! Learning respect for nature and diverse spiritual paths at the same time as have fun! I bet it won't be long before big corporations try to supply this market need, so I'm glad someone who really cares about these ideas is starting first.
Blessed be!

Just to play devil's advocate:
Are there Christian, Jewish, and Muslim board games?
Can you imagine a "Christopoly", in which you have to get Mount Sinai, Mount Ararat, and the Mount of Olives to be able to put up a hotel?
Tammy Sullivan

sure I can imagine it, why not? I'm sure the OP asked about pagan related board games because it is a pagan site...but I see no reason why people of the other faiths would not enjoy them as well as (maybe) learn from them...
actually ben, the christopoly is a good idea, I think the christians would go for it. I'm not being facetious either.
Heck, if they can make a nascar version (and they did I have one) why not a path related one?

Ben, Bibleopoly does exist.
From http://www.gamesmanshop.com/products/family/lateforthesky/bibleopoly.htm :
Bibleopoly combines the fun of a board game with remarkable cities of the Bible. Players start IN THE BEGINNING and journey through Bible cities, Meditation, Community Celebration, and occasionally, the Abyss. Once players have earned their Cornerstone by helping a fellow player or by doing Community Service they may make Offerings in order to earn the bricks and steeple needed to build a church.
In Bibleopoly good deeds are always rewarded, but sometimes Faith cards intervene. The final object is to be the first player to build a church on one of the Bible cities. Will you be the new Paul? Play Bibleopoly with family or friends and find out!

Devil's Advocate: What do you hope to accomplish by making paganism even more commercial? Isn't there enough fluffy-bunny stuff already out there to distract us from learning our craft? Now if you were to gear a game towards kids with the intention of teaching them something about beliefs or magic, that would be worthwhile!

I worked in a unique toy and gift shop in PA and there is indeed a game called 'Bible-O-Poly'. There is an entire string of O-poly games made by a company called 'Late for the Sky'. They even make a Make-Your-Own-O-Poly that comes with blank cards and boards that you can use enclosed software to create your own game. My family used it to make Pagan-o-poly. We don't play as often as we thought we would, but it was very cool to create.

As a person who is also in the midst of creating pagan toys, games and story books I have to say that this idea is NOT fluffy nor commercial. Christians (and other faiths) have endless story books, coloring books, toys, videos and other things to reinforce their faith to their children.
I feel that the number of children being raised Pagan is larger than it has ever been. I also feel that anyone who is developing things like this is smart as there is nothing out there for pagan children and families.

I used to own a board game called "By Jove!" I had loads of fun with it. I found these pictures of it here:

Thanks for bringing up this old thread. You reminded me of that game and made me go looking for it on EBay. I found it! Now if I can outbid the other two people who want it. :) *...crosses fingers...*
