OK I'm not exactly sure what to call this...but here's what happened.

My hubby has been after me to smudge the house. He hasn't been sleeping well the past few nights and he thinks our little friends are having something to do with that. So we went to bed last night and he kept me awake with his tossing and turning. So I got up in the dark and found my smudge stick and smudged the house. I went over each room twice. So I get it done then crawl back in bed.

After I get myself settled down, I started to say my prayers. I said a specific one to Yemaya, asking Her to please let me know if I am to follow her and if this is the right path for me. A few minutes later, I started to feel "funny". I was laying on my back and my feet started to tingle and it worked it's way up my back. Before I knew it, my whole body felt that way. It made me think of the time I did a drawing down the moon ritual and I actually drew it down! The next thing that happened was weird...I could see myself in the bed, like I was above myself, but I also could feel and hear everything going on. So I was above my body but at the same time I was still in it. Then a voice came into my head. It was a woman with an accent that I don't really know. She said "I am Yemaya. I heard your calls. Yes you are to follow me. I will allow it. Things will come to you as I send them. You will know that they are from me. Start slow, there is no need to move fast. I will be here. Your first thought is a good one. I will let you know where to go from there. The river is fine."

Then she was gone and I was back to feeling normal...not tingly and I was not above myself anymore. I was really excited yet scared. I started to think about what she said. Especially this part: "Your first thought is a good one. I will let you know where to go from there." I went to the store yesterday and came across a package of sea shells. My first thought was to put them out for Yemaya. And there's the part "The river is fine." I questioned as to whether or not the river I am near is a good place to leave an offering to her. As I know that the river eventually makes it to the ocean.

I stayed awake for a while after that. Just thinking and going over what happened. Now I know this is for real. And that this is where I am supposed to be.

What are your thoughts on this?

What a lovely experience! I suppose a combination of cleansing the house aong with being very tired made it easier to slip into that consciousness where messages pass more easily.

I hope cleansing the house helps with the spirits who think it's fun to be most active while you're all trying to sleep.

Ok, weirdly enough, I was reading this as I surfed around today:

So apparently, I, having never heard of the Goddess Yemaya before today, am getting a double dose of her now...and actually,I feel something for Yemaya, reading the articles Agaliha pulled togerher...

I think... you found yourself a path and someone to lead you on it! :boing: I believe that Yemaya is an Orisha, and so more associated with Santeria :) She's got her own card in my Tarot of the Orishas roughly corresponding with The Empress.

Here's the description of her from the book:

A woman appears from among the waves who is beautiful and who posesses spiritual and also material riches (since the sea is one of the wealthiest and largest kingdoms, covering more than 70 percent of the world's surface). Almost dancing, with a subtle bending of her arms, she seems o be surrounded by sweet melodies springing from her own self.
A hand carries a comb (made of sea oysters) which she uses to comb herself before a mirror (made of snail shells) helf by her other hand. Her crown also is made of silver (her metal) and snail shells, with a starfish in the middle, a necklace of the same metal ending in a charm representing a fish that inhabits her territory. The crown is decorated with pearls (as drops of her pure element), which gives her a princess-like quality. She is comfortably seated on a seashell.

And this is a prayer to Yemaya that the author gives:

O mother of the waters!
Great is your power, your strength, and your light.
Great is teh love you have for your sons
As is the wisdom with which you govern
From all oceans and seas.
Let my request reach you
And do me the favor
Of removing enemies from my path
And smother my fears.
Let neither sadness enter my home, Nor grudges nor sorrow.
Let your greatness
Be the greatest wealth you dispense to me.
Hail, Yemanya, lady Yanaina,
Whatever your name,
Whatever the beaches and coasts
Your waters may kiss.
Whatever the incessant rhythm
Of your waves, of your seas,
I entrust in you my faith
As part of God's creation on this earth
And this is why I ask you ________,
Because I know my request shall be granted
If it is just and well deserbed by me.

I put up my mini-altar to Yemaya. I placed it right next to my family altar. Here are some pictures.

Oh and I know nothing about Santeria :(

Thank you for the prayer!

Oh and I know nothing about Santeria :(

That's okay, neither do I  Many of the Orishas correspond to the Lwa. For example, Yemaya is called La Siren in Vodou. :)

Yemaya was originally a River Goddess in Nigeria in the Yoruba Religion. So this makes very good sense. She is very special to me ( Yemaya )!
