we used to go tot Rangely Lakes Maine when we were little. We would rent a cabin on the lake, go hiking, fish, relax on the dock. It was beautiful. Those were my families nice vacations.
We also spent a few yeats doing the "lets explore NYState for a week of driving." I didn't like that as much. We went some neat palces, St Lawrence Seaway, Cooperstown, Ausable Chasm, the Finger Lakes, Lake Ticonderoga/George area, and so on. But it was toooooo much driving for me.
My family's vacation today is to go to Disney. We have been there three times with the kids. And we all love it. Yet we now realize that if we ever want to move/add on, we have to save those income tax refund checks instaed of putting them to vacation. So we won't be doing much more thana few camping trips the next few years or so.

Chryssi, We used to go to Ausable Caverns Too! I always thought they were soooo cool.
One year we went to Pennsylvania Dutch country, and Ghettysburgh. That was one of my favorite trips. The food was outstanding out there, and I probably had my first psychic experience in Ghettysburg. Kept telling my mom I smelled blood whenever we went to the battlefields there. She of course kept telling me I couldn't smell blood. But I did. I kept getting the chills there, too. Feeling like we were being watched. That was the same year we went to a water park, and my mom went on a waterslide. She was wearing a one piece bathing suit which tied in back, at the neck, and as she crashed into the pool below the slide, the darned thing came loose, and she wound up flashing half the park. :p lol.
We used to go to Old Orchard Beach in Maine alot. I loved the arcades they had there. Especially the gypsy fortune telling machines, and the mechanichal rides (I was VERY young).
We visited White Cap mountain once. I think it was in New Hampshire. All I remember, is being terrified of the ski lift, but once we were up top, the incredible view.
I went to Disney for the first, and only time thus far, in my Junior Year of Highschool. My mom, little sister and I went with my Aunt and Uncle, who own a house in Kissemee. I loved it. It was the week of my birthday, and as a special birthday treat, they took me to a dinner theatre called "Arabian Nights" which was basically, a really fancy horse show, I've always loved horses, so it was a great treat for me. Everyone had to eat with their fingers off of wooden plates, and drink out of wooden cups. It was cool. A "Genie" read my name, wishing me a happy birthday at the beginning of the show. We did Disney, Epcot, Seaworld, Universal and MGM that week. I loved it. We also went to a place called "Old Town" which was kind of like a fifties style town, if I recall correctly. They had classic car shows, and a huge ferris wheel in the middle of the "town" square. An Arcade, and a whole store dedicated to fifties and sixties movie memorabelia.
My mom and Dad were in the Drum Corp when I was little, so alot of family vacations during that time, were to Drum Corp Musters. They were all dressed up in Revolutionary War costumes, and slept in huge canvas tents. I just remember tons of big pewter tankards filled with beer, in the hands of all the adults.
I think the lamest family vacation they took us on, was to Corning New York. The only reason they really chose that spot, was because my mom was in search of a new plate set. And she heard they were cheapest at the outlets up there. What a lame vacation. Glass blowing demonstrations. That's pretty much all I can remember about that vacation. Oh..and getting lost. Alot. I don't think my brother and I ever forgave my dad for taking us on that vacation.
:p
LOL.

I don't recall going anywhere really interesting (like Disneyland or on an exotic vacation somewheres), but what I do remember most is going to my grandparents house (I loved the smell of it..it was unique) or their cottage on Sand Lake (Ontario) and just spending the summer swimming and chasing frogs around. :) It was awesome, but we haven't been out that-a-way for a loooooooooooooooong time and I really wouldn't mind going back someday. :D

My favorite ones when I was a kid, were when my Dad would pack us up to my Grandma's house. Grandma's back yard was 25 acre field, with a grove of trees in the middle. I loved it up there. I even would go for 2 weeks without the rest of my family for some good ol'fashon spoiling by the Grandparents. :D We would go everywhere, Niagara Falls, Rochester, Corning (where I had fun, but then again I only spent an afternoon there), Toronto (the ONE & ONLY time I've ever left the US), and my favorite place when I was a kid, The New York State Fair in Syracuse. My Dad took to all kinds of neat places back then. Mainly cause since my folks were split up, these vacations were the only way for him to spend a lot of time with us.
But now that I've got a kid of my own, I must say my favorite vacation was about 4 years ago. I took 2 weeks off, to follow the last "Further Fest" in the Midwest and to visit a very good friend who was "living" in Minnesota at the time. I took J-man with me and decided that along the way we'd go to Hershey Park. We camped at the Hershey site nearby. Just me & J-man. We spent the whole day at Hersey park. Every photo I have from that vacation my son is grinning ear to ear. We drove all the way to Minnesota too and he was 6 at the time. He looked at his books and played with his figures on the trip. When we got to Indiana he found kids to play with and was getting spoiled my my *family* there. Minnesota, where my friend was staying at the time, was beautiful. I loved it. I would go back, but I haven't had the time or the $$$ to go. *sigh*
