Okay, I got out at school (wed) at 4:30, then went to Wal-Mart, hence I didn't get home until late 5:00. I thought about calling my grandparents, I even took the phone off the receiver, but I changed my mind and put it back. Well during my nightly call, she (grandmother) said that my number appeared on her cell's caller id, twice, at 6:20 and 6:35. First, if I had wanted to call my grandmother I would have called her office or home. Also, I only have one phoneline, and I was online at that time. I didn't call her cell phone at all. Yet, my number is on her caller ID, twice.
Despite only having one phoneline, my phone rings when I am online, and it lets me answer it. My phone isn't supposed to do that, but it does, like I have two lines.
Anyone else have a "problem" like this?

OK, here's a silly question:
Do you have a "broadband" connection? One of the reasons I have DSL is so I can be on the phone & online at the same time. And we only have one phone line.
As for why your number would appear on the Caller ID when you hadn't dialed... I can't say. Had you ever called her cell before? It may have been a "glitch" on that end.

I don't have dsl / broadband. I haven't called her cell in quite a while. Our cells (same) are new-ish, less than a year old.

Oddly enough, I might have something to contribute here. ;)
One of my mom's coworkers has had a lot of problems with her cell phone. It calls people in her phone book randomly when she's no where near it. So it is possible that your cell phone called your grandmother even if you didn't.
Could the buttons possibly have been bumped in your purse or bag? That's usually how it happens. However, my mom's coworker has left her cell phone out of any purse or pocket and had it call her sister. Possessed??? ;)

I have a strong dislike for cell phones. I agree, they seem posessed sometimes.
I used to have a number of inspectors & contractors working for me, most of whom were required to be reachable by cell phone. I saw some truly freaky stuff happen with those phones! I think Wyrdsister is probably on target there.
As for the broadband connection -- it was one of those "have to ask" questions. Yes, I have had the television not work because it wasn't plugged in. (First question asked by television/computer repair people: "Is it plugged in? Is the power on?" You'd be amazed how many times that takes care of the call!)
If you don't have a broadband connection of some type, my guess is you've dropped a connection without realizing it. (You don't have call-waiting, do you?) And unless your dial-up modem is set to make those screachy noises each time (and most people turn that off 'cause it's annoying) you might not even know when it connected again.

Actually I don't really know where my cell is. It's not LOST, just misplaced with the rest of the junk I dragged home from my grandparents' last weekend. I have call waiting. Also, there is an icon that lets me know when I'm online, if the icon goes away, no internet. The icon was on, when the phone rang those times. And though it's partially unrelated:
Once, I thought about calling my friend, so I picked up the phone to call her, and she was already on, and it never rang. On either line.
Also, when I first started to get interested in phones (preteen), I wanted to call my friend. I couldn't remeber part of her number, (2#s) so I dialed what I THOUGHT was hers. The person who answered wasn't her, but my aunt.

Ok the first thing that came to mind was you thought about calling her enough to take the phone off the hook. Was everything ok with you? Did you just want to call or did you need to talk to her? Maybe the Goddess was helping you along. As for your phone ringing when you are online...... ssssshhhhhhhhh or they will cut it, until they do play dumb!!! :D

Everything was just fine. I was a little stressed out over homework, but no dire emergencies.

It's strange that I found this thread, cause something similar happened to my cell a couple of times. I never paid much attention to it, but last Wednesday I had an hour off during the day and I thought I'd call my mom, but I changed my mind and didn't even take the cell out of my bag. Later that day I was coming home and took the phone from the bag and I saw that my mom called my 3 times when my phone was off. I called her and asked what she wanted and she replied that nothing, that it was I who called her, but she couldn't pick up the phone. My number appeared on her cell id, just like in Maren's case. I thought it was strange, but it seems even more strange now after readning this thread. I realized it wasn't the first time when my mom said I called her, when I didn't.
Am I possessed or is it just my phone?

okay so this has nothing to do with phones, so if it's anything, I'll put up another thread for it.
When a fuse blows, does the switch to that fuse in the fuse box turn itself off?
