Can you feel it???

Autumn is in the Air!

Time for apples, apple pie, apple crisp.
Cider donuts
Hot, Mulled Cider
Hot Chocolate,
Mulled Wine,
Nights with a ton of candles lit
The smell of leaves crushing beneath your feet.
Turkey, Roasting in the Oven.
Ghouls and Goblins Roaming the streets, in search of candy.
Colors blazing in the tree's.
Snuggling with your familiar, or your loved one, or both, beneath a blanket, candles, or fireplace lit.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :)

Every September, I get this strange feeling inside. It vascillates between extreme joy, and a little tinge of sadness. Bittersweet, perhaps. Summer is over, Winter will be coming on soon, so you've these short beautiful days of glorious color, texture and scent to enjoy, before everything becomes grey, and silver, and white.

Perhaps it is that, or the certain knowledge that it is, in many ways, an ending, and yet in others, a beginning. That bittersweet feeling, perhaps it is a reflection of the duality of fall.

Parents send their little ones off to school, hearts heavy. The Child embarks upon a journey which will take him into adulthood.

An ending, and a Beginning.

The leaves which fall, become the fertilizer for next year's soil.

An ending, and yet, a beginning.

Maybe this is the bittersweetness of Autumn. And why I look at it with such joy, and fondness, and yet, at times, when all is quiet, and my candles are lit, a twinge of sadness, as well.

I was just sitting here with some candles and incense lit, and a glass of Peach Chardonnay by my side, and thought that I would share with all of you, my musings :)

What a lovely post, Danus! :)

I love Autumn, it's definitely my favorite season. Your words made me long for a Northern Autumn again. *sigh*

Down here in Georgia it's still hot and humid, and the brisk days of Fall seem a long way off...

On my drive to the beach today (I'm in Massachusetts... for a few more days, anyway), I saw plenty of trees that were already starting to change color. And there has been a scent of autumn in the air for a couple weeks. The nights have gotten chilly, too. And the fall rains have started, too.

Danus, you post truly is beautiful. But I must admit I am still trying to hold onto summer for a couple more weeks, if possible. Here in Canada (albeit very southern Canada) we like to squeeze as much summer in as possible! :D

I'm sure I'll be rereading your post in the (near?) future.

:(:(:(:(:(:(:(8O8O8O8O8O8O:wah::wah::wah::wah::wah::wah:

I miss autumn so much, the crispness in the air, cool mornings and evenings, burning leaves, fall parties.......

Ya know there are times when FL really bites, but when you all start having all that EVIL RAIN fall in huge white chunks and I am on the beach, I don't feel so bad!!!! :T:T:T

can't feel it yet :(.........won't happen here till Halloween at least if it happens at all. Sometimes Chicago only gets two seasons, Winter & Summer. I love Autumn when it happens. Someday i would like to experience a nice autumn season (obviously I'll have to be somewhere else)

Autumn is certainly in the air here in Middle Tennesse. But ya kinda gotta sneak up on it. It was here in full strength this morning as I sat under my Willow tree to pray. The days are still hot, but the evenings are have a tinge of sweetness. Fall, I love it. The colors, the crispness in the air, not to mention the smell of tobacco being fired. I love wearing my light jackets and sweat shirts. This is absolutely the best time for horse back riding. To get in amongst the brilliant oranges, reds, and yellows. It's wonderful. Simply wonderful.

I can definately feel it, it's very strong (at least where I am).
I love summer, it's my favourite season of all, but Hallowe'en is my favourite time (because I celebrate it for much longer than one day - it's more like a week long celebration for me) so it's a fair trade off ;).

Danus--this post was definately intended with me in mind!!! LOL

This is my absolute favorite time of the year. From Sept. 1st--Dec 31st. I could do without the rest of the year. I suffer through major league bouts of deep depression and as soon as this time of the year is approaching--I get a twinkle in my eye!

I get rejuvinated, refreshed and just smelling the air makes me happy. Tomorrow, I'm putting up my first chicken soup of the season and can't wait to start smelling it in the house!!!

Many days I simmer a pot of water with cinnamon and spices in it to fill the house up with the "scent of autumn".

Living in New England definately comes in handy this time of year and relish every day of it.

I love the grey days when it drizzles a little and the colors seem to glow on the trees. The bright days where it actually hurts to look at some of the leaves. The cool nites snuggled up under the covers and listening to the rustling of the leaves that have already fallen to the ground.

The pumpkins that are on everyone's stoop (and seeing the half eaten ones that the squirrels have gotten to!). LOL Seeing the Halloween decorations start to creep up everywhere and going to the crafts shops to see what neat stuff they have in store for us this year. Wearing big comfy sweaters and sweatshirts that you feel like you can just move into and not leave until the warm weather returns--which of course I hope it never does. :)

It is a constant time of total anticipation!!! Not anticipating anything in particular--just being surrounded by it like a big hug!

This truly is an amazing time of the year. :) :) :) :) :)

I get really sad this time of the year. Endings, I guess.

Mind you, the fact that we've had a pretty appalling summer here in the UK makes it twice as bad!

Looking forward to celebrating Samhain this year - first year I can celebrate properly.

I love Autumn! It's my favorite time of the year, and yes, I can feel it now. The nights are cool enough to sleep with the windows open. The air is so clear that the stars shine more brilliantly in the darkness. In the mornings, the slant of the light is so utterly gorgeous I have to sit outside and watch it shining on the trees tingeing the leaves with gold. It just makes me happy. The air smells better, the sunshine is more lovely and while it still gets hot during the day, it cools off quickly at night.

I even know when I first noticed it--two days ago. I'm looking forward to the leaves changing, and I'm even looking forward to the frost. I like all the seasons and wouldn't want to live somewhere without them, but Autumn is definitely my favorite.

Thanks for the wonderful post. Autumn is bittersweet, but it is also glorious!

Danus: I could've sworn the last words in that first line were 'apple crap'...:p
Autumn to me is bittersweet. Endings, death, but always the association with new beginnings and people. This is the first year since I began that I won't be starting new classes and I'll still be starting new because I'm looking for a job. It'll be a new experience, not being a student (or in school at least, I'm always a student of *something*) but starting to be independent.
And then there's apple cider and pumpkin pie. Yum. :mmm:

I absolutely love autumn. We had a couple days of fall and then went back to summer, so I guess I'll have to wait a little while longer yet. Yes, it's bittersweet, but it just seems to fill everything with so much life! Even though it's technically the putting to sleep of life until next spring. What with the color and the crisp air, it's so invigorating it makes me want to dance! Does anyone else here have an absolute passion for apple-picking and just sitting and kneeling around on the ground planting bulbs?? :):):):):):)

Pout.... there is no Autumn here! :( The trees don't change, the weather doesn't get cooler, there isn't a Thanksgiving, or even a Halloween.... kinda sucks....

Yeah..we got another heatwave this week. It was 90 today. But it's supposed to end by wednesday, and then get back to fallish weather. It does this just about every year, just so you can't quite put away your summer clothes while it's convenient for you to do so :)

I get the same "feeling" when this season comes around.
I thought I was the only one who felt this way, now I know I'm not alone. Hurrah!
