View Full Version : Help me out?

So I've been having a bit of rough luck as of late. My car died about three weeks ago and I've been having to cab it back and forth to work. It costs me 15 bucks each way, I usually try to catch a ride home though so that helps a bit. Anyways... during this time, I've also been "preparing" to try out for Roller Derby, (Yay!) I've always wanted to do this, but like many things I've wanted to do, I tend not to do them.
Well this time I was so serious, I've been riding all over my neighborhood, My daughter runs along side me yelling things like "Go faster! Faster! You'll never make it like that!" Then she'll ram me explaining that I have to be prepared for things like that, with a twinkle in her little eye. No idea what she was watching to give her the trainer attitude. But it's all been good fun.
I get the Recruit newsletter, and during all this time, all the other "recruits" have been meeting up at the local rinks going through drills and practices. I haven't been able to since the car problem.
So...tryouts are sunday, they are for four hours, everytime I think about it I get nauseas, I've come up with a million reasons why I should "wait til next time" I've never done anything like this and I SO much want to.
Sorry so long, Please if you could send me positive energy to GO to the tryouts and do my best. It doesn't matter if I make it, then there is next time, I just want to make sure I try.
Thanks for taking the time to read all this.

Roller Derby Chix are hawt.
I wanna be one. I fear grill damage though (fake front teeth as it is), and am not talented on 4-wheeled skates (better on blades).
You have my admiration.
I always wanted my Derby name to be Crash Bandicute.
What's your Derby name so I know to come watch when you battle the girls from Columbus?
(You can do eet! :fpraise: )

Roller derby, huh? That sounds awesome. I used to watch it after ECW on that one TV station... can't remember what it is now...
Anyway, I know the feeling of wanting to do things and tending not to do them. I, too, have thought of trying roller derby, but unlike you, I've never actually done it. *sending positive ass-kicking energy your way*

Yeah I'm a bit nervous about busting some teeth, but hey, I did that on a tequila night too! lol
I've said I was gonna do this for a couple years now, but I got inspired a few months ago and checked into it, finding out tryouts were coming up. I saw it as a sign.
I grew up ice and roller skating, inline I fall on my face! My daughter was so amazed when I ordered my skates and could actually skate! Everybody who knows me says I'm completely Rollergirl material. So I'm gonna give it my all! (Well with a push from all you!)

please, do us both a favor, do it.
I can't rightly count how many opportunities I've missed out on because I at the last minute decided to bail... I think what you're focusing on is if you'll win, or how good you'll do since there are a lot of people looking at you (as well as injury). This isn't an uncommon fear.
Lookit this way. Ken Griffey Jr. is #6 in the record books homerun wise. When asked what his thoughts were on the subject he simply replied "I love baseball. I just do it because I have fun at it. Even if I don't get any more homeruns I'll still play till I can't".
Just go out and have some fun. Consider winning or placing just a side benefit. Also, teeth can get knocked out from walking any amount, or sitting for that matter... You'll do fine, if nothing else you'll be able to check Roller Derby off on your things to do list ;)

Two days... Two days...My stomache's all icky, and I'm really really amped.
I have yet to figure out my name though!! All the very clever names I've thought up have been taken! :( Any ideas? Panic! Panic!!

So...
I didn't make it.... But I went!!! It was the most painful four hours I've ever put my body through. Skate fast here, drop do pushups...skate fast here, drop do crunches, skate fast here, drop do flutter kicks! and that was only four a half hour! My body aches like I've never felt before.
But...I went, I tried, and I was sooo nervous! Thank you for all the energy! Next year, I'll make it!!!

Ouch! That sounds painful just hearing about it. I'm sorry you didn't make it, but big kudos to you just for trying. It's great that you went because now you'll know what to expect for next year. :)
By the way, did you think of a name?

Thank You! Yes I'll know what's coming next year! At one point I even went to the sidelines, puked up a lung in the garbage, then wiped my mouth and went back out. There were no breaks other then, get a drink, line up, let's do this. Oh the pain.
Oh, for a name, I thought these up (I thought up a bunch more, but they were taken)
