We are hoping to move in to our house soon (within the month) and I HAVE to descide what the hell I'm doing with my room.

My hubby snores, so I have my own bedroom... trouble is.. I haven't had my own bedroom since I was a teenager, and I'm not sure my taste has developed much since then.

This room will occasionally be used for guests (and I'll bunk with Snorey) so it has to be nice for guests and I WANT it to be nice for ME.

Snorey has BUILT this house with his own hands out of mud bricks and big old timbers... it has a strong 'theme' through out of 'big, heavy and primitive"

The main living spaces are pretty open so they are all roughly the same color scheme.... light buttery yellow walls where there isn't exposed brickwork or wood with strong Cobalt blue and lemon yellow accents(I want the house to have a Mediteranian/ Middle Easern feel, since that is the climate)

Snorey collects Afgan tribal rugs, (all deep red and blue). We lived in Asia for a lonf time so a lot of our furniture is rough Thai stuff made out of sunken barges etc..

so I want this room to FIT the rest of the house and have come up with 2 options I like

1. "Inside the tent" A teak bed with lots of raw silk and beaded pillows and embrodered linnens. Wall hangings.... Bashiris... etc

2. "Primitive American" A Sleigh bed, Native America art, a collection of pen and inks of American wildlife and Navaho rugs hung from the walls. Simple rather auster linnens... including possibly a roo skin coverlet

Thoughts? and WHAT the heck color could I paint the walls that might work for both... the best I can think is maybe 'burnt umber"?

I want the room to feel warm and inviting...snuggly..but also 'an experiance... something really special that says 'you aren't in Kansas anymore..."

and reflect my interest in tribal textiles from around the world.

help!

You might want to do the "Native American" theme as a change of pace.
I think burnt umber might be too dark. How about slightly reddish, like clay? Look at American desert colors.

Yeah, I think burnt umber would be too dark and would give me nightmares! And might clash possibly...I like the dessert theme of lighter shades of the same clay color, maybe in bands around the room? Or just having a shapely border of the same color but darker sand/clay? Sounds fun and interesting! Maybe burnt umber in small amounts would be OK!

Have fun and get paint samples and see how the light hits it at different times of day and night....:hehehehe:

found a paint sample called 'tangelo' which is kind of medium cinnamon.. perfect.. like you guys said.. deserty and slightly red.

I want the room to feel WARM and glowy..but not DARK

currently I'm leaning towards "Persian Whorehouse' and thinking of putting my NA stuff and pen and inks in the hall as its spareness has a lot 'cooler' feel

I love the "persian whorehouse" theme. I've always wanted a Moroccan-style room... walls of a terracotta color with lots of accents in jewel tones, with copper and textiles and candles everywhere...

Harem theme came to mind.

Persian whorehouse gets my vote.

Have you considered wrought iron?

ooohh yeah!!!!

I actually DID see that one.. and I'm in LOVE....

plus it goes with the general Mediterranian feel of the rest of the house with all its Moorish blue and yellow tiles

I DO like wrought iron.... and I also like opulent wood.... anything curly and vegetative looking catches my imagination.
