I know I have seen a recipe for making an arthitic salve/rub somewhere in my travels. However....now that I really need to make one....do you think I can find it? Of course not! I had saved it to my computer when I originally saw it..but I had a crash and well.......the rest is literally...history!
So.....I am wondering if anyone has a recipe in their stash for one that will help ease the pain and inflammation of minor arthitis......
My hubby is having a terrible time with his knees and believe it or not....his big toe!
He has seen a doctor for this as well....Their answer.......Anti-inflammatories. Which...he has tried and do not gove him much help. He is also..not a big pill taker either. He tries to go the more natural route as opposed to the chemical treatment routes. Can't say I blame him much.....birds of a feather Ü
So~~I really appreciate any and all help you may be able to provide. If you know of a website....have a recipe......anything is wonderfully appreciated~~~and I thank you very much.
He will be super grateful too!! *Ü*

Huge hugs........

arthritis can be very tricky.
osteo is at least treatable (although success is not always guaranteed), while rheumatoid is a little more difficult.
for osteo glucosamine/condroiten can be very effective to rebuild the damage caused by the deteriorating cartilage.
the Dragonfly suffers from rheumatoid very badly, and the doctors told her to get used to eating ibuprofen. so she went to a naturopath, and he put her on antibiotics (of all things!). she now takes a low dose of a mild antibiotic called minocycline daily, and the results have been amazing! although she does have to eat yogurt everyday to keep away the associated yeast infections (active culture only), but other than that she has very few flareups.
topically, arnica oil works very well to help relieve the stiffness. also, camphor/menthol based rubs can provide some relief as well. but these are all just a bandaid.
keep up on your vitamins, especially the B's and A and E. and omega oils help too. and kava/bromaline based herbals can be beneficial as an anti-inflammatory.
good luck!

I have a recipe for a hot oil rub around here somewhere, made with cayenne. When I find it, I'll post it here. It can also be made into a salve with a little beeswax.

Woo, found it!

1 oz cayenne pepper
2 tbsp mustard powder
2" fresh ginger or 1 tbsp dried
2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 1/4 cups oil (almond, grapeseed - one that's light and won't go rancid)

Method 1
Combine all ingredients in an airtight bottle and leave in direct sunshine until oil is richly coloured

Method 2
Combine oil and 1/2 spices in heatproof container with lid, and set container in a pot of water (within 1" of the top) and simmer for 2 hours. Strain, add rest of spices and simmer another 2 hours. Strain again and pour into airtight bottle.

To make a salve, melt beeswax into warmed oil at a ratio of 4 parts oil:1 part beeswax

Hope this is helpful to you

Its not a salve, but...

I take MSM for bursitis in my shoulder. It helps a lot. My dad takes it for arthritis in his hip. he really needs a hip replacement but refuses. It helps him move about a bit more freely, which I guess is better than nothing.

It is still taking supplements, but much easier on the body than ibuprofin.
