i have recently got some pollished stones so they are all shiny. then written the runes on them. they look really nice and i have done it for my friend aswell. are these suitable to do rune work with? they are not exactly the same siza but they are similar.

Runes are fine if you made them. I don't know much about runes to be honest. i have a set that i love. i don't use them for readings but i do find that they make me feel empowered when I hold them.
one site i was reading had suggestions for making your own runes out of wood and coloring them with your own blood. yes you have to bleed in order to do that. But it said that women could use blood from thier menstrual cycle, which absolutely made me ill to even think about!! i'm just not into all that blood and guts kind of worship.....Yuk!!

Rosabelle, the best thing you can do is what ever you wish to do. If it works for you then it works!
Religion is about tradition, Magick is about YOU. And, as mol said, the best tools are the ones you make. This holds true with all of your tools, from candles to containers... of course, it is not the only way. If you would rather use premade tools, then that is what you should use.
What is right for you is the RIGHT way.

About using menstrual blood. That is the most discusting thing that I've ever heard of. Anyway, back to the topic. In several of the books that I have read, you can make runes out of stones as long as they are similar in size. I think it would almost be impossible to get them the exact size. And they also said that making them yourself puts your own personal energy into them and they work better for you that way. I have seen the cost of these in different stores and online and I just plain couldn't afford to buy a set. So I believe I will also try my hand at making my own. It won't be until spring though. Here the ground is frozen and I'm not much into freezing my toes off outside!!!

When you are in your menses you are in the full moon of your power, so this blood can be used for a variety of things. Have I ever done so, nope, can't say that I have. I have read of using personal effluvia, such as urine drinking has been practiced by people seeking power.
What it all boils down to in my way of thinking is about putting yourself into the working. I was talking to someone who had one of those little fluffy bunny books with spells, and they were sad that the spells didn't seem to really work. The person using the book probably would have had better results if he had created his own tools and wrote his own enchantment.

Craft your own spells people!!!!
I will take this opinion to the grave...
...unless you are BOUND by tradition through initiation, and I am sure most of you are NOT, the best thing you can do is craft your own spells.
Stop relying on others, and ESPECIALLY books, to teach you spells. Magick comes from within YOU...

Granted, if you truly feel the spell will work for you then it may, but this is something you must TRULY believe. Just because it works for others does NOT mean it will work.
Spells mean something different to each one of us. When someone tells you the spell works, they mean it worked for THEM in the way THEY hoped it would.

No offense taken here. To segue off topic just for a bit, I must explain that I've become accustomed to dealing with every sort of human byproduct, working the ER, so that not much phases me anymore. I'll tell you, my SO works in the OR and all of his patients are always naked. Can you just imagine going to work every day and seeing a naked person with an opened body cavity? And he LOVES his job? Yeesh! Gimmee a guy grabbing his chest with a heart attack to fix anyday of the week over that! My point being, it takes all kinds, all points of views and opinions, like the song says, even ones with chicken pox...
And making stone runes is a fab idea! The only think would be if you became very accustomed to working with them and could recognize what they were without seeing the sigil as this might affect the reading toss. I know if you bend a tarot card edge, that deck is history for reading. You might as well just hang the remainder of that deck in a frame as lovely art!

I say kudo's to eaglewolf and Litha. The best spell is the one you have crafted. Just as the best tools are the ones you have crafted. Does it have to be this way...
Certainly not. I have crafted nothing. I have always bought (without haggling) all of my tools. Wait...I lied..I DO craft my own spells. But the tools..Nope. i am working on changing that now that I have this Communities help. i am learning quite a lot about crafting tools and about growing my own herbs and about...well. A lot of things...too numerous to mention.
And as far as the Magick classes going on right now...these are very ritualistic..so at first you will be doing time-honored traditional rituals. Of course, this experience can only make creating your own rituals and spells all the easier!
