View Full Version : Working with the Moon: A question

I tried to do a search for this and couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. That's probably because I'm not sure.

Most people (as do I) do things like banishings, getting rid of bad influences and bad habits when the moon is waning. Recently, a friend had an immediate need to do a spell that would be best to do during the Waning Moon. Since the New Moon just passed, it will be a while before the proper time comes around again, but the spell should be done now.

I'm just wondering how you all deal with this. Do you wait until she wanes again? Do you do it now and if so, do you do it differently?

I've always thought, and learned that the ULTIMATE best time to do a spell, is when the need is very great. If your friend has a very pressing need to do the spell, then the moonphase really shouldn't effect it.

A very strong part of what makes a spell work, is the energy you put into it. If your need is great, that energy will be there. Good luck to your friend, and let us know how it turns out!

That's what I think too.

If the moon phase isn't quite right, I try to adjust the wording a little to accomodate it. (ie. want to do debt reduction but it's a waxing moon? Just focus on getting the money you need to pay the bills instead of "getting rid" of the debt)

Since I don't know what it is your friend is trying to do, it hard to say what an alternative wording would be for it, but you can suggest that to her.

When it comes down to it though, I'm firmly in the camp that the energy you put into it will determine the results, not the phase of the moon.

...ya know, you can base your workings around the moon phases (& I agree with what's been said about changing the wording), or you can base them around the days of the week, or the hours of the day... or none of the above... like Nike sez, "Just do it."

I think that when working against the moon, you should do a couple of things different. First do the spell before moon rise or in the day. Second, I would for every colored candle I burned put black ones on either side. Make sure you have the proper day candle and the proper astral candle. This kind of backs up what is being done.

I agree. I try not to do many workings while the moon is waning - but I have done workings when I have a great need during that time with good results. This site has some helpful information:
