Just curious. I'm going to upgrade my internet connection in the Not-Too-Distant-Future, so I'd like to know what you all use to connect with from HOME. Yes, we all leech off our employers fractional T1's or ISDN from work, but what do we do at home?
Those of you who use DSL (particularly Verizon DSL, AOL Broadband and MSN DSL), feel free to share your experiences with those services, since those are my strongest broadband cannidates at this time.

I wish I could help you out Ill. All I have is dial up at home. And as people can tell you from the chat, it drives me bonkers. I need to upgrade too. So I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as well.

*Grins* Sorry Ill, I'm using smoke signals at the moment as we don't even have a phone line hooked up until the 16th...after that I'll be leeching off of Phoenix's dial-up for a while, and then we'll probably get a broadband connection of some kind.
(signing in from her superfast govie connection):D

Smoke signals, tin cans, etc., has two votes. . . does that mean we have two AOL users? :p

Ill. I seriously like my cable connection. Leaving the phone free,
and pretty fast most of the time. I didnt choose the fastest speed,
because I didnt think those numbers worth an additional 20 bucks!
So, I am at basic cable speed around here which is 1000 or so,
I think.

*laughs and shakes head* Shows how well Phoenix reads the other posts.
I said I picked smoke signals, but not because I have AOL, it's because I don't have anything at the moment. :p

We have a DSL line at home ~ I've never really had any complaints with it, but then I'm not the computer geek in the family so maybe Cable's a better product, I dunno.
I think the main reason we went with DSL over cable is that we don't have cable lines going to the house (which is the reason we have DirectTV) rather than one being better than the other. But it's a whole lot better than dialup! *shudders at the thought*

Let me see. Er, I use nucleus, which is a DSL line. I have never had any problems with it, it beats the hell out of my old dial-up.

well, I'm trying AOL's free trial DSL. . . . and shockingly enough, it's beautiful. My only complaint is having to run the AOL program itself to be logged on (stupid RAM-eater). But it's very surprising - the last time I used DSL, it was my dad's, and their network kept crashing and the speeds were pretty bad. . . I think it was with pacific bell or something.
But oddly enough, AOL's DSL is very well-behaved, and I've clocked speeds of up to close to 70kbps downloading. . . I think I've seen faster, but I didn't really pay much attention.
At any rate, it's enough for me to download a movie, full size, and watch it less than three hours later! That makes me happy! :D
But my friend has cable, and my god I hate him. LMAO it's so very fast, I want it!

I had Roadrunner in Minneapolis for cable and they were pretty good... but here in Phoenix I have Cable America and they rock....good price and I hardly ever, ever have a problem...I don't know what I would do with out them. Never have had DSL so no basis of comparison... :)
edited for stupid error.. sigh.

56k dial-up
don't know if Ireland will /ever/ get broadband, or anything like that, at least not in the west, at any rate :(
Oh well, in the cities, as far I know, there are better connections - I'll probably have access to a fast connection when I'm at college.
Ah, well, modem dial-up isn't that bad...

Well, I don't have a connection at home, so I'd have to go with smoke signals. :)
I only get online when I visit my husband's office, which as a DSL connection.

I recently had to decide get my cable tv disconnected for a while so I could still have my internet service. How can you tell I live on the net?! *laugh*
I can live without cable tv, but living without net connect?! You must absolutely be joking! That's like pulling the plug on myself!
...Hi my name is Kcrys and I'm a net junkie.
