View Full Version : Is carrying too many gemstones a bad idea?

Well, my life has been a very jumbled mess for the past few months (anxiety, stress, severe menstrual problems, sleep problems/insomnia, financial problems, family issues, emotional issues.. you name it) I've been trying to figure out different ways to deal with situations without allowing myself to fall into depression. But still.. at times, well.. all of the time, I really feel like I can't handle it all.
Recently, I've pursued an interest in crystal magic/healing. I've been collecting gemstones & minerals since I was in elementary school, but I had no idea there were so many possibilities (regarding healing etc). I just discovered this when browsing through a bookshop..
So far, one thing I've read is that it might be a good idea to carry or wear certain gemstones that may be helpful at the present time. Well, I wasn't sure which gemstones to choose, so I put many of my tumbled stones in a large bag and randomly plucked out a few. Well.... a lot.
I ended up using my pendulum to decide which to place back into the bag (about half of the stones I had taken out). So now I was left with 34. Some of the gems are the same (for example, I happened to pick up about 5 pieces of amethyst) but I do have a bit of a variety.
I've cleansed these stones and placed them into a small drawstring bag. And by simply looking at this chubby little bag sitting on my desk, I seem to already feel attached to it. I just want to take it everywhere I go! (I've got a bit of jasper in there... is it true that it helps with loneliness?)
But now that I think of it.. 34 pieces seems like a lot. Can certain gemstones clash? Could this end up attracting more problems?
(.....I'm sure my chakras are all out of wack enough as it is.)
Please let me know your thoughts on the matter.
Thanks for reading :bigredblu
ps. After finishing the bag, I felt the urge to start something else. I have a small decorative jar that doesn't seem to have a purpose. I love it a lot (someone special gave it to me) and as soon as I glanced at it, I immediately wanted to give it a purpose. I have a few tiny sample bottles of garnet, green aventurine, red jasper, carnelian, turquoise, peridot, and moonstone. I cleansed them and put them in the jar. It was upon placing the jar next to the bag, that I began to wonder if I had gone too far...

If you feel comfortable with the combination, you should be fine. If the bag is silk, it will block most of the energy, so I would take a couple out and place them in your bra or pockets. (Yep, I carry rocks in my bra!)
IMHO, it is better work work with just a couple of stones at a time, no more than a dozen. Skin contact is always better. You could rotate the stones for those to work with during the day, and those to work with at night.
If you find the right stone, you might just find that it helps to alieviate most of your issues.
If tackling the most pressing of the issues, trying working with the stones that work on the smaller issues, this will help to relieve your overall burden.
I understand the excitement, and wanting to dive right in, but just go slow and steady. Changes can take time. :)
Stones you might want to consider for your first round:
Moonstone - hormonal balance, works well with PMS, can help with insomnia
Malachite - Good heart chakra stone, helps with abundance (ie Money issues)
Smoky Quartz - Good grounding energy, helps with insomnia, alleviates depression too.

Hahahaha I put rocks in my bra too!!!!!! Thats too funny.
I'd say if the bag makes you comfortable, carry it hun! If it feels like too much, then try to remove some. My reiki teacher cracks me up. She's always got handfuls of stones in her pockets. I usually carry or wear three or four, but thats just me. Whatever feels right to you.

usually sometimes it's best to carry only one stone at a time. while a few people will suggest no more than three stones while others will suggest to work with 4 or 5 stones.
for menstral problems : go to the database in the sticky section and follow the link there for stones to use.
in the meantime use a moonstone, an amethyst, a clear quartz, a piece of sodalite.

i agree 100%
addittionally, do chakra work
from your 34 stones, pick 7 fitting the chakras
lay down comfortably
place the stones onto your chakras accordingly
set an alarm clock for 20 minutes
after 20 minutes remove stones, stay put
after another 10 minutes get up
20 /10minutes is the minimum time
the 2:1 mix of with/without stones should be maintained, the time can be stretched in that order though
60/30 minutes should not be exceeted
you can varie the stones used, so more of them 34 will be able to help in the process.

I'm so happy to meet others who put stones in their bras! I usually carry 2-3 at a time, however, when I have three, I may have 2 for the same problem. ie, both rutilated quartz and smokey quartz for depression. One in projective, the other receptive. Sometimes to cut down, I'll carry a combo stone like a tiger iron so I get the tiger's eye, red jasper, and hematite all in one. If I have that, I would only have one other stone. I'm going to start crocheting amulet bags for sale to carry 2-3 stones in at a time. Some will have a long drawstring on them to wear around your neck, others will have a short one.

I wear them in my bra too sometimes, but only the special ones I've formed a particular bond with get that honour. :hahugh: (Ah, the life of Solya's special stones... wonderful, isn't it?) Sometimes, when I feel like it, I put some stones in a small coloured bag and tie that bag to a part of my clothes. I can carry about 6 or 7 stones that way without feeling like they're too much. Also, I tend to carry some around as pendants or bracelets because that saves up space in my pockets.
My 'basic kit' consists of yellow calcite, clear quartz and carnelian. Other stones I use very frequently are smokey quartz, larimar, sugilite, amethyst and selenite. I've carried up to 13 stones at a time when I desperately needed them, but usually I can do with a bit less. I would have to say that whatever feels right to you is usually right, though, and so wearing those 34 with/on you for certain periods of time wouldn't be entirely bad. Just don't grow dependent on the bag while you're at it, because some stones are pretty hard to separate from once you've bonded with them. However, I have far more than 34 stones lying around in my bedroom and that works just fine.
Wishing you lots of joy and health for the time to come... :hugz:

True, true, larimar is one of those stones that only feel good when worn for a short period of time. I certainly don't wear that one every day because it's so powerful. The same, I think, goes for the two pieces of sugilite I own. They're energetic explosions to me!

absolutely. i would also advise never to wear sugilite when going shopping

Any particular reason why not? I've worn that before while shopping and all it seemed to do was make me zone out at random... was pretty weird, which is why I tend to go with safer stones like aquamarine for my shopping expeditions now...

I wear them in my bra too
The only problem I've found with this is you have to avoid the pointy ones. And be careful how and where you put them or it looks like you have a weird shaped growth on your boob.

also be careful when undoing your bra. if they (stones) pop out they tend to shatter on the floor

Ahh, that explains. I do that naturally anyone, being an Aquarian, so I just never noticed.
I only wear the tiny ones in my bra, because I often wear tighter shirts/dresses and it would just look insane if I had this huge lump there. I also have some flat-shaped stones (especially the lepidolite is awesome in that shape!) and those fit into anything including undergarments. And yes, I've tried to fit all of those in at once and nobody noticed.
