I have this stupid (insert lots of swear words here) bird that every day sits on the tree out the front or back (that's ok - I like birds in the garden) but it has this really really really (insert about a million more reallys) annoying call. It sounds like it is trying to mimick the apes at the zoo.

That still isn't the main problem. I could handle that if it didn't do it from 5 am to 6 pm EVERY SINGLE (insert more swear words) DAY!!

I feel as though I am going insane. :ahhhh: It has been there for over a week now and I have been very under the pump with assignments at uni - which have not had the required thought/effort put in because of this stupid bird ruining my concentration.:wah2:

I have tried ear plugs and music and all sorts.

I have asked the goddess to take it somewhere else.

Has anyone got any ideas how to get rid of it? If it doesn't shut up soon I am going to start throwing things at it or get the BB gun out!! :uzi: (and I don't want to hurt the poor little thing just coz it is trying to get a mate)

But I feel as though I need to admit myself to a psychiatric ward as I am going megally insane with this bird... :bug:

HELP ME :ugh:

Is it close enough to hit with a super soaker?

I don't have a water soaker :( And not really - sometimes, but as soon as I walk out the door it flies to a higher spot. It is as if it is teasing me...

I just thought of something - does anyone know any spells you can use to block out just one noise from your life for a period of time? :P Maybe then the bird can keep on its merry ways and I don't have to go crazy

Get a cat. :bigredgri

On a serious note. . . as soon as Mely's back online, ask her. She's quite knowledgable about birds. :)

First of all, I don't know what part of the country you live in, but you MIGHT want to see if the birds nest is there. If so, it has a pretty good reason to want to stay around. Secondly, if its FOOD source is near the tree that it sits, you might try placing a bird feeder at some OTHER part of the yard, farther off, where the birds noise wouldn't bother you. On a spiritual front, perhaps the Bird is a totem of some sort. Have you tried to identify the type of bird that it is? What does it look like, what are the sounds it makes. There are numerous websites on the net, which have soundclips of bird calls, along with pictures of each bird. This should help you identify the breed of bird. If it seems to be taunting you, perhaps there is a message it is trying to give to you? Try seeing it in a positive light, instead of a negative one. Once you figure out what bird it is, look up Totems + Birds + Meanings. Perhaps you can discover the message in your birds call. If it is a Crow, or Raven, and its nest is not nearbye (you don't want to scare off a nesting bird, especially if it has wee ones in the nest, i'm guessing), you could try to put a scarecrow up. Or..get a cat..an outdoor cat...(j/k).

You could also try listening to your music THROUGH a set of headphones. I find music played through headphones blocks out noise fairly well.

I don't think it has a nest yet - I think it is looking for a mate. And as for moving it to a place further away with the use of food - well it sometimes sits on the roof of the house accross the road and still sounds like it is in my room (with ear plugs and music and all).... It doesn't have 1 place where it stays. Sometimes it is on the top of a really really tall tree in the back yard of our next door neighbour, sometimes on the powerlines accross the road, sometimes on the roof of the neighbour accross the road and sometimes on the tree in the front of the house (which is the only one I can get a good look at him with - but as soon as I open the door he flies to the powerlines or roof)....

I live in Western Australia.. I don't know what bird it is... any idea how I can find those websites? (or do you know of any?)

I like the idea that it may be a totem bird with a message... Maybe it is all my fault then
I didn't think about it until Danustouch meantioned it, but I did do some serious meditaiton trying to find out what my totem was - and didn't really find out anything... So maybe it has finally come.. (not that I am a big fan of birds - they're ok - but I like big animals better).

And for the cat idea, there is no chance in Hell that I could convince my boyfriend to get a cat. He HATES cats - this is mostly attributed to the fact he is highly allergic to them.. and I am slightly allergic to them -(and as they are a small animal they are too not my favorite animall)

Well thanks for the responses so far...

Now off to hunt for birds and their calls on the net....

Well..if he makes THAT much noise, that even at other places in your neighborhood, you still hear him, I can't think of any "mundane" way to rid yourself of him. And honestly, I really try not to mix magic, with nature in some ways. For all you know, the one food source for this bird, is in your area of the town. Unlikely, but possible. In short, that bird has a reason for doing his birdy thing, in his birdy way. Unless it's a matter of protecting you or yours, I really wouldn't use a spell.

I hope that you will discover that it is some sort of totem for you, though. Perhaps once you aknowledge it's message, it will find other places. If not, you can chalk it up to being a daily reminder of the message it bears, and that might make it easier for you to handle.

Anyway..here's a link I found for Birds of Australia, and their sounds.

Well this works here so.....buy a big rubber snake and drap it in the tree, be sure to move it every few days just a bit...but enough so it is in a new place on the tree. Or do the same with a plastic owl. It kept the peacocks away and they are one noicy bird with a loud call. We had to have several tho...as there was more than one around.
Good luck :)

the plastic owl works... for awhile.
we used one in our warehouse to keep the pigeons out. and they stayed out for about a week. then they just flew around it!
they use the same owls on top of the telephone poles near the airport here in Salem. they've been there for years, and now the crows sit on their heads!
and even if you're allergic to cats, there's no reason you can't have an outdoor cat (i mean, come on... they're cats! miniature tigers!).
just get the little bugger fixed.

Well as someone who HAS a bird... :)

My mother had the same problem for a while believe it or not. She came to me one day and said, "You are NOT going to believe this, but there is a bird that sits in the tree outside and has makes a noise that sounds like it is yelling out 'Geeeorge!'"

There is a tree that is so close to her window, the branches rub up against her windows.

It lasted for about a week-week and a half and then suddenly went away. Now she has an air conditioner and wouldn't hear it anyway. But it left long before she got that.

It may just be that it's looking for friends and may leave soon if no others respond. Being the eternal optimist that I am, I think it's just visiting you and may leave soon.

If it helps, I've got three that sit outside to visit MY bird every day! My little one sits on the window sill and the 4 of them talk to each other!!! (I just KNOW they are talking about me!) Ever been in a situation where you are the only one who doesn't speak the language??? THAT'S what it feels like!

What greenman said is true....if you don't move the items. It is the movement that is important...or that is what I learned. Good luck.. :)

I use an owl dummy to keep away the birds from certain areas,
but you have to move the owl every other day or so, and it helps
if the owl has very convincing eyes! Mine does and works great
and has for awhile. I have nothing against nice little birdies, it
was just their disregard for manners and pooping on everthing!!

well the day I read the message about it may be being my totem animal... it stopped... Well he is still there - occasionally he sings...
but he doesn't do it non stop all day anymore and it isn't anywhere as loud..

Yay now I can get some study done
