View Full Version : Monster Washes Ashore In NY.

We don't want to panic anyone, but a minion of Satan recently washed up on a beach in Montauk, N.Y.
The deceased beast looks a bit like a dog with the sharp beak of an eagle, or possibly a shell-less turtle with the dark eyes of a griffin. Either way, it's definitely a portent of the coming apocalypse

Poor thing... I'm more afraid that that beast has been tortured very badly before it's death than the fact that we're facing an apocalypse now. It said in the article that it may be a result of some animal-testing. Makes my blood boil.
...though I'm not very familiar with that website. was it a joke?

eeegads. At first I went with the turtle without a shell theory until I heard the "turtle have no teeth" thing,....so now I'm at a loss again. I'm going with Stormbeards Gryphon idea.

Oh, it's a dog with it's snout all torn up; pretty damn obvious, just look at the thing.
A ****ing synthetic Griffin? Really, people. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/images/smilies/emoticons/mad0218.gif
Now, it seems quite apparent that the website quoted is either being very sarcastic or is edited by the same kind of paranoid schizophrenics that write for the Daily Mail. Either way, it should not, under any circumstances, be taken seriously.
EDIT: Or, as BB below suggested, it could just be a manufactured publicity stunt.

Having looked at all the pictures of this I could find..I have one word for you on this specific shot:
Photoshop.
Plus, the lady who took this photo, when asked to share the original digital images...would not. Other people photographed the same thing, on the same day, before this lady took that photo and those people shared their original digital images for public display.
If you look at the shared original digital images...you can tell that this is a very bloated fox, dog or raccoon; and it looks very little like what is seen above...you can even see hair on it. The above photo is *obviously* photoshopped....especially the head, muzzle, eye area and the right front paw.
It is not unheard of for animal carcasses to be dumped at sea with other trash, nor is it unheard of for trash and other things to fall off the garbage barges as they are shipped from one spot to another.
I call HOAX.

I agree with Jeff Corwin: It's probably a dead racoon or something.
Mind you, fur WILL fall out in the water while something is decaying.
the soft flesh around the nose and muzzle is also the first areas to begin to show decay. Fish and other water animals also EAT the flesh of dead things....
photoshop? Maybe...
the Effects of Death, waterlogging, and other animals? most Probable.
It IS creepy looking though.
Artiste-LiLi, where can I find these original digital photos?
I'd like a chance to see them.

does anyone else see the resemblance to a pig here, look at its feet they are looking supisously like hooves, and if as said the fleshy bit of the mouth had been eaten pigs do have teeth,
either that or linda hamilton will be on the scene, (cattle mutilations):giggle:

It looks to be a baby something, though what would have those features in combinations is anybody's guess. A shell-less turtle does seem to answer the parrot-like beak for a mouth. A good zoologist might have the answer to this puzzle. Anybody know a zoologist? Very, very strange!

Lili,
Thank you for posting the video!
If it is a marketing stunt, it is a sick attempt, but as the video points out there is a testing facility nearby and perhaps this was either something that was dumped or maybe somebody is trying to make a statement..
Still creepy none the less.

Even if it was from the testing facility, don't they usually dispose of things like this by incinerating them? I'm going for hoax as well; but it is creepy to look at.

the only issue with considering it to be potentially a pig carcass.....pigs don't have the fur that carcass still has attached.
Based upon coloration and the "genetic banding" look of the hair...I'm going for grey fox, raccoon or dog...........though the potential exists for it to be a large breed cat (I don't think so...but hey...). It apparently is approximately 2 to 3 feet in length (from nose tip to...????? rump? tailtip? they don't say) so any of the aforementioned animals would fit that size.
Also, due to the fact that it had been in water for some time..most of the hair would have denuded and the bloating due to waterlogging and decay would be immense; as is seen in this animal. Fish and other water dwelling critters would have started to eat on it (hence the missing pieces) and who knows how long the animal might have been dead prior to its immersion and subsequent washing up on shore. It is obviously mammalian.
The carcass didn't just disappear after the photos were taken........apparently "a friend" of the women took it home to "preserve" it.......then they say that it was taken from the first friend's backyard by yet another friend to a different location to "protect" it and to "save" it for examination by "hopefully a scientist".
I still cry hoax and foul on the first picture posted by the women.........I fully believe it to be photoshopped to the hilt around the head and muzzle area.
I'll keep looking for the site that had multiple photos of it.

It could be a wild pig or a boar, which do have fur...rather than a domestic short-haired pig.

I think I agree with you 2, it's, probably, some kind of hoax, I mean, if it were a real monster, or Sign of the Apocalypse, I'm sure, it would have made the news a lot more.
It's, probably, just a publicity stunt.

Yes, it's probably Harry Potter and Ron, out joyriding on their brooksticks, and they ran over this creature, and dumped its body in our realm/plane!.
You know, how naughty they are, they just deserve a spanking! (I wanted to use a really cool Smilie here, but, can't, does anyone else think, it'd be cool to have some of these (http://www.futurelooks.com/forums/misc.php?do=showsmilies), especially the ones at the bottom!).

It could be a wild pig or a boar, which do have fur...rather than a domestic short-haired pig.
The hair looks to be a different texture and genetic banding than wild boar hair. It is really more like raccoon and grey fox hair. Boar hair is stiffer and of a thicker diameter...the hair I saw in the photos is finer and had a "soft" look to it.
I soooo wish I could find that darned link that showed the carcass in the same position as the "beaky" one....the whole head/muzzle/ear configuration was completely different than what it shown.
I'll keep lookin'

Thanks!
That sedond link that's just a photo... that really looks like a dog or something...
People have to remember that this thing obviously has been dead for awhile and in the water for the better part of it's death.
Someone should have taken tissue samples so that they could determine what kind of animal it is. It's still possible that it's something uncommon or even rare.
Thanks again for the links!!

The larger photograph of the skull provided through Philosophia's link above, certainly answer some of the questions posed by the original picture.
You can see that it doesn't have an 'eagle's beak' at all, the flesh has been removed and several teeth are missing making the upper jaw appear beak-like. This also create the 'brow' that appears so prominent.
Crucially, there's no indication to scale, which would have helped decide at least if the animal was closer in size to an average dog, a boar or a raccoon.
I think it is the carcass of a young raccoon myself, well known to beachcombing!
