I have been having dreams about snakes eating other snakes. They started before I even got any snakes of my own. They don't happen very often, but they do recurr.
Generally in these dreams, I'll be walking around a pet store, and come across the reptile display. There are snakes of different species "accidentally" mixed together in enclosures, and the larger ones are eating the smaller ones. And then there are usually snakes crawling around outside of the enclosures, as well, eating each other.
I'm not afraid of snakes, so they aren't really scary dreams, just a bit disturbing.
However, I've noticed among the tarantula hobby, that a lot of people have similar dreams involving their spiders. It seems they dream about finding all of their tarantulas in one enclosure together, fighting and eating each other. It actually seems like a pretty common dream for a lot of people.
So I was wondering if anyone has any input on what these dreams could mean. I have crazy dreams all the time, but since I noticed a common theme, I thought I'd inquire here.

The snakes eating snakes sort of reminds me of the Ouroboros (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouroboros), though that's one snake eating it's own tail. Does that symbol resonate with you?
Snakes are full of symbolism, everything from positive to negative-- it'd be hard to pin something down exactly. You said those dreams don't scare you-- do they seem more positive? Or anything that might help narrow the scope of meaning down?

For me that would be a sense of loss and wanting to intervene. Is there anything that might involve some kind of loss in your life that you could not control? Loss of a loved one or a chaotic scenario you had in your past you are not sure you dealt with alright, or have coming up like a test (in school or in life) you need to take or something facing you that are not sure you are prepared for that seems a little out of control? Do you have relationship issues, or are you trying to protect someone like a younger sibling or a friend? Is there a possibility of you becoming pregnant in the next year or so? Is it an issue with a parent and severing the ties and moving out on your own?
Just things that came to my mind that could be helpful or not...
Let me know if anything helps, please.:weirdsmil

Well since some snakes really do eat other snakes, perhaps you should take it more literally as in the dream may have to do something with survival of the fittest. Or what other ideas come to mind relating to cannibalism? For example....Are you having to carry someone else's weight at this moment in your life? Do your feel yourself becoming more like someone else your around a lot? Try to mesh ideas like that in with traditional meanings for snakes. What specific species of snake your dreaming about may make a difference too.

as for specific species, most of the time they are weird fantasy snakes, nothing real. sometimes its just the species i'm familar with, but mostly these crazy fantasy snakes.
the dreams don't scare me, I've been having a lot of "nightmares" lately, but instead of being scared or upset, I'm more fascinated with how detailed the dreams have been getting, and how strong some of the stories are. But then there are the recurring dreams that generally involve a lot of wandering around without actually going anywhere, like this one.
generally in dreams like these, i want to do something about it, and its not like i can't, i just don't. i mean, i don't think i would be able to, but i never even really try. I know that in the dreams i've thought about going to get a store employee, but the dream usually ends or changes course before anything gets done to remedy the situation.
I'm wondering if they are just snakes because its something i'm familiar with. Or more importantly, something my sister is really involved with. My sister breeds snakes. And my sister has been going through a lot of changes lately, she got married last year, and now she's pregnant... Maybe the snakes eating snakes has something to do with my sister moving forward with her life, while i'm kind of stuck. Sort of like her life is passing over mine, and she's overshadowing me.
I don't have negative feelings towards her now, but all my life she's always been passing me up, and it used to bother me. Maybe deep inside it still does...
this has been a very insightful train of thought for me...

Maybe it's time for you to figure out how to make your mark on the world and figure out what really sets you apart from her in a good and healthy way. Way to go, sounds like you are on your way!:boing:

I think you just figured out your dream hun.
You're right about ALOT of things, snakes can go both ways; good or bad. I used to have a butt load of dreams dealing with snakes, and I'm absolutely paranoid of them. (Funny thing is I have no problem touching a snake, I'm just scared that I'll get bitten).
In a positive light, snakes represent the truth. Perhaps the "reality" of your sisters life has taken over yours, I mean one snake eating the other snake is quite literal. You should definitely take out some time for yourself - taking some quiet personal time to think about things is a good way going about it. When I separated from my daughters father, it took me MONTHS to meditate on my life before making that final decision. I finally came to the decision, when I went for a long walk to the Botanical Gardens with my mom. Sometimes we need that personal space to get away from everyone, so we may shift any influences or distractions away from us.
Good luck,
I'll be praying for you.
