I was talking about this last night with a close friend, and it got me thinking that this would be a good topic to discuss.

Do you pray to/ associate with one particular goddess/god for aid with your divination practice's at all?
Or to your normal guides and goddess/gods?

I associate divination with Odin, Freyja & Persephone. Odin and Freyja for the runes and Persephone for my tarot and scrying.

Always Hecate, for me, when it comes to Tarot. For the Runes, definitely Odin, although I don't know him too well... he and my runes seem to understand my issues and cut to the quick!

Agghh, I can't vote. I feel as if my patron deity, Athena, is always guiding me. I have a goddess spirituality book; in the book, the author discusses how the ancient goddesses can be used for modern purposes. The author Ann-Marie Gallagher suggests that the goddess who reigns over all forms of divination is the Roman goddess Fortuna.

What about gods and goddesses of prophecy also, such as Apollo? Hhhmm, I think that Gaia, the earth goddess, is also connected with divination.

Do we really have to ask? Hehehe... ODIN

...and, of course, the Norns... also, Frigga is said to 'see all', but she doesn't 'speak all'...

lol. I guess that Odin is a very obvious choice for the runes. But I don't know if I would ask him for guidance for other types of divination.

Well for me Odin was always a camp drinking God. You stood up on a hill screamed "ODIN" for all you were worth, and then He would bless you and your group with good weather. :D

I've already posted in this thread but wanted to add that I call upon the Norns in their respective roles; Urd for the past, Verdandi for the present and Skuld for the future.

Flar's sculpture of the Norns is now an altar, and I place my runes there to cleanse, bless and charge them. There is a picture of the sculpture in the Arts and Crafts forum.

Recently, I found out that Fortuna is the equivalent of Wyrd  I posted a thread with that information in Gods and Goddesses not too long ago.

When I use the Tarot, I really don't ask for guidence by a particular deity. But when I use the Runes, I ask for guidence from Odin. I feel I get a much more acurate reading and the energy flows so much easier. Not to mention I am much more at ease when I ask Odin for guidence and thank him when I'm done.

Can't vote. There's no option for Other.

My choice would be Djehuty (great, wise magician) or perhaps Aset (great magician in her own right).

Athena has been taking care of me since I was a little kid living in Athens, so to some extent she's always involved in everything I do.

However, ever since I got the Froud Faerie Oracle, I find that I'm asking help of faeries, archetypes and heroes/heroines more and more with my divinitory work (which also includes tarot, reading signs and portents, and lately, bibliomancy) - it just seems appropriate.

I look to Persephone for just about everything. I feel she is my personal deity. She encompases all working through/overcoming obstacles, and boy, do I need that, heh!

If Im relating to love then Freya, magic or conflicts, Odin, otherwise or even sometimes for battles Im with Tyr all the way. Usually though I dont call upon the gods for divinatory purposes, atleast not with my runes. I always thought they had theyre own power. Stichtheomancy though I'll ask the help of the goddess, for Ive yet to see a god of librarians.

Other!

While I do sometimes call on Hekate, I don't normally call on anyone. If I'm having a difficult time, however, I'll call on Andriel, my companion angel to help me interpret.

While I don't call on a deity, I do feel that my acts of divination are watched over and directed by the Morrigu. Occasionally, one of them will reach out and kinda give me a thwap on the head. Next thing I know, I'm having a vision and she's standing there, giving me directions. I don't exactly enjoy those experiences, they generally tend to be rather creepy. <shudders>

But, that's to be expected, I guess from the Morrigu. When they feel like it, they're going to be creepy. And that is some times the only way I'll listen. I'm just too stubborn. :p

Aside from that, when I need help with divination, just about any of my guides will pipe up and say something. I have one that's a particularly annoying one, my best friend took to calling him Mr. Happy because he was so irritating and she decided to annoy him in return. hehe. He likes to suggest a reall mess of a spread for my tarot cards and then say, Oh you know how to read them. Just read 'em. You don't need me to explain it. It's obvious.

Times like then I really wish I could smack the spook across the back of his blond head. <grumbles somethign about teenage males and ghosts> But... it's better then his horrible jokes. :)
