I'm doing this spread from Mary K. Greer (http://marygreer.wordpress.com/2008/08/12/your-major-arcana-mirror/) - and am a bit stuck on a section of the spread. I'm using the Llewellyn Tarot.

Mind giving me some assistance?

Column 2:
Ideal : Death
Middle Way: Justice
Shadow: Temperance

:cutie: I appreciate any insight ya'll have to offer.

its a rough combination for me.

Okay - here's some insight I got (naturally) after posting here.

As an ideal, death is about dealing with closure, the natural end of things, release, freedom, and growth through change. This is something that I'd like to be better at, because I rather suck when it comes to some of that.

Temperance is about harmony and all, but sometimes its not a good thing to "go with the flow" - sometimes behaving with a graceful and calm exterior isn't what's needed. I can sometimes be a rather "don't rock the boat" kinda girl.

And at times, I don't get closure or grow because I don't challenge myself to speak out or to do what I need to do out of fear of causing trouble for others.

and that's where Justice comes in. Justice says for me to do what I need to do, and accept the consequences. To be reasonable and thoughtful in my approach, but not to stifle my sense of honor and to be more careful about the compromises and sacrifices I make. Because those sacrifices have hampered me from attaining my goals of closure and growth.

so what do ya'll think?

I'm still up for other ideas though.

Ideal : Death
Middle Way: Justice
Shadow: Temperance

The first thing I thought of when I saw the Death card in that position was "grace". I think how we deal with our surroundings and lives changing can be a very telling thing about a person. Do you deal with change gracefully? Or do you fight it kicking & screaming? I think the ideal here is grace, and the images in the card (in most decks) is a very graceful & beautiful one.

Justice as the "Middle Way" is interesting. It makes me think of looking at all sides of things. Not really being on the fence, but able to see both sides of the situation and understand them. Perhaps knowing your options is a good way to put this? Meh, not communicating this idea very well, am I? LOL

I agree with your ideas on the Temperance card here. And I'll also say that balance and moderation be damned. Sometimes MORE is more! ;)

Interesting Lisa! I never would have considered that perspective of Death - hmm... it depends on the change, really. I'm actually really good with some change, but other changes... not so much.

lol

And I can see Justice in that light too. :)

Grazi. :)

I see rebirth in the Death card. So maybe your Ideal is the rebirth of your self, an every changing ever evolving entity. You love learning and growth. For the Justice card, I see looking at all alternatives before you make that big change, that rebirth of self. And Temperance is the Middle Road between the 2. Rebirth is great, looking at all sides is wise, but either alone is just not a good idea, therefore, use Temperance.

Being a tarot addict (hi, my name is tallwoman, and i'm an addict), I had to try this spread. Very interesting. It will take awhile to digest.

It's intense, isn't it, Tallwoman? :)

I rather like it, but I don't think its one I'll do more than occasionally.

Very intense! Too much info to process quickly. Did any of the responses help you with yours?

Certainly. It took me all day to really get through the spread though. ;)
