There are these big "we call them mud balls" on the sides of the hills in the valley...each spring new ones show up from the earth sliding...they are just a big roundish rock and when you smak them open some have crystals...one had a large snail. like thing..about 7 in in diameter...except there was what looked like mother of pearl...irredesant...on the inside...this is one of the crystal inside...not as nice as thunder eggs but am wondering what this is :boing:

Calcite.... formed in the same way as Septarian Nodules.. may well be a broken Septarian Nodule as they are found around your area. and south into the Dakotas, Montana, Utah, Alberta, Saskatchewan and that general area. When you get the real cool ones with viens and crystal pockets of calcite they are often referred to as Dragon's Eggs.
Remind me next time I'm down there to go rock hunting for these :) .. they are awesome when cut in half without breaking them open... much like a thunderegg with hollow pockets lined with yellow calcite crystals.
They form through a different geolgical process though and are not connected to volcanic eruptions like T-eggs
