Understanding is now, not tomorrow.
Tomorrow is for the lazy mind,
the sluggish mind, the mind that is not interested.
Transformation can only take place immediately;
the revolution is now, not tomorrow.

You have to be strong enough
to take the whole responsibility of your life,
for good or for bad.
Act out of freedom, out of awareness;
not out of dead principles and religions and books.
To me, fearlessness, courageousness
is the foundational quality of a religious man.
He will risk all,
but he cannot go against his own insight.
Whatever the consequences, he will follow his own insight.
This is how he becomes stronger and stronger,
more and more like steel,
so that even fire cannot destroy him.

The universal is present in the individual.
Just so, liberation comes from recognizing
the subtle in the gross,
the unity in diversity,
the similarity in differences,
the truth in untruth,
the light in darkness,
the life in death.
This is real liberation.

If you could just STOP,
you'd realize that you're already there
- or rather HERE.
At this ever present still point it is impossible
to distinguish between meditation and simple being.
To accept this
is to understand why seeking and working on your self
are not helping at all.

This is what you should do:
Love the earth and sun and animals,
despise riches,
give alms to everyone that asks,
stand up for the stupid and crazy,
devote your income and labor to others,
hate tyrants,
argue not concerning God,
have patience and indulgence toward the people...
reexamine all you have been told
in school or church or in any book,
dismiss what insults your very soul,
and your flesh shall become a great poem.

If meditation is mindfulness, then yes, I would agree that a day without mindfulness has been wasted, because you haven't been truly present, you have only partially experienced the day, unaware of most of what is going on.

If a person goes through their day with mindfulness, then they meditate with every step.

A man of peace is not a pacifist,
a man of peace is simply a pool of silence.
He pulsates a new kind of energy into the world, he sings a new song.
He lives in a totally new way
his very way of live is that of grace, that of prayer, that of compassion.
Whomsoever he touches, he creates more love-energy.
The man of peace is creative.
He is not against war, because to be against anything is to be at war.
He is not against war, he simply understands why war exists.
And out of that understanding he becomes peaceful.

The antidote to hatred in the heart, the source of violence, is tolerance.
Tolerance is an important virtue of bodhisattvas
[enlightened heroes and heroines] -
it enables you to refrain from reacting angrily to the harm
inflicted on you by others.
You could call this practice "inner disarmament,"
in that a well-developed tolerance makes you free
from the compulsion to counterattack.
For the same reason, we also call tolerance the "best armor,"
since it protects you from being conquered by hatred itself.

Do not think that the knowledge you presently possess
is changeless, absolute truth.
Truth is found in life and not merely in conceptual knowledge.
Be ready to learn throughout your entire life
and to observe reality in yourself and in the world at all times.

May

I am the planter, Spring is my time
I plant the seeds of fruit and wine
Before pyramids towered above the sands
I sowed my seeds in many lands
I am the farmer of an ancient generation
By my hand and seed, I fueled civilization
At first, I gathered what I would need
Then, the grain maiden shared her seed
I return them to her womb, the Earth
Patiently, I will wait for their birth
I give thanks to the soil, plow, and hoe
For in the end, I'll harvest what I sow

To be in tune with existence is the most healthy experience.
There is nothing more than that,
but it is so much you cannot exhaust it.

What we have to learn, in both meditation and in life,
is to be free of attachment to the good experiences,
and free of aversion to the negative ones.

It makes not the slightest difference
whether one lives long or short,
so long as one understands the ground of being.
That kind of life is a life of worth.

Just as surely as no one or no thing
has the power to destroy your promise,
neither can they fulfill it.
Only you can do that.
All the fine speeches,
all the grand books
and all the great teachers all combined,
cannot unlock your promise.
They merely serve as reminders,
sparks to ignite the fire in your heart,
beacons in the night, lest you forget.

I don't live in either my past or my future.
I'm interested only in the present.
If you can be always in the present,
you'll be a happy man.
Life will be a party for you, a grand festival,
because life is the moment we're living right now.

Everything lies in the freedom of choice
that we possess as human beings.
Our liberation and our bondage.
[...] ask yourself:
What am I doing with the gift of choice
that is my birthright as a human being?

The meaning of life is to live moment to moment.
Just follow the flow of life from childhood to old age.
Be born when it is time to be born
and die when it is time to die.

When things seem out of control
remember that, indeed, they are.
It is only the belief
that you are ever in control
that makes life seem to go awry.
The harder you try to rule life,
the harder it fights back.
Learn to tell the difference between creating in the present
and trying to control the future.
One feels good, the other bad.

To study the Way is to study the self.
To study the self is to forget the self.
To forget the self is to be enlightened by all things.
To be enlightened by all things
is to remove the barriers between one's self and others.
Then there is no trace of enlightenment,
though enlightenment itself continues
into one's daily life endlessly.

To be "viable", livable,
or merely practical,
life must be lived as a game
-and the "must" here expresses a condition,
not a commandment.
It must be lived in the spirit of play
rather than work.

Anything that is connected with fear,
a mature person should disconnect himself from.
That's how maturity comes.
Just watch all your acts, all your beliefs,
and find out whether they are based in reality,
in experience, or based in fear.
And anything based in fear has to be dropped immediately
without a second thought.
It is your armor.
