View Full Version : Is there a name for what I am?

I know I'm setting myself up for a lot of smart a$$ remarks by asking that question. "Is there a name for what I am?" "Yeah - STUPID!" Sounds like a conversation I would have had with my little brother. So - you're welcome to just get it out of your systems if you want! ;)
Anyway y- I'm just wondering if the path I am on is the same path a lot of other people are on, or if it's my own, or what? I've just been doing my own thing, doing what works and what is comfortable for me, without a lot of guidance. I'd kind of like to meet some other people like me so I'm hoping you can give me a name for it.
I meditate a lot - several times a day, sometimes. I just do a quiet meditation, trying not to think. I try to just focus on my breath, like the Buddhists, but if my mind is too busy or I'm really sleepy I beat on my rawhide drum and that helps a lot. When my mind is empty I'll sometimes have an "aha!" moment when I figure something out, or have images or hear voices that don't make a whole lot of sense.
Since I started all of this, I've become much more feminine. I've grown my hair out longer and wear more jewelry, pretty flowing skirts, etc. My femininity seems to be a huge part of my path, although I don't have a goddess that I worship. I do talk to mother earth. I like to swim and imagine that I am in her womb. I'm an environmentalist.
I do spells. They involve candles, usually. Sometimes not. I don't really understand the symbolism of the pentagram, yet, so I'm not comfortable using it but I make a circle of pebbles and burn 5 candles around the edges of the circle, and put whatever items I'm using in the middle of the circle (like if I'm charging stones for an amulet or whatever). I really like to use natural materials - rocks, water, salt, crystals.
I pray to the creator and the "forces of good", without using names, because I don't know who/what the creator actually is. When I do my spells I just call on "my" spirits. I know they're there, but I don't know their names.
I read the tarot cards (eerily successful), use a pendulum (with limited success). I've had many premonitions.
I live in the forest, in the far Northern United States. Where I live, there are lot of bears, wolves, some cougars, eagles, etc. I love the wildlife and the forest and daydream of living in a little earth-sheltered solar and wind powered home and having people come to me for healing, etc. when I'm old.
Healing is a big thing for me. I dreamed of healing even as a small child, and went into nursing thinking that was what I was looking for. It was not. My healing spells have seemed to work quite well, though, and that's more what I'm after.
I would never consider walking on the "dark side".
So - am I a witch? Am I a pagan? What kind? Where would I find people like me? I want other women to do magic outdoors with - clothed, preferably ;), because it's cold here.
Oh - and I do enjoy a little natural herbal spiritual supplementation in the form of a certain weed. I can interpret the tarot cards much better when I use it. I don't know if that matters or not - but hey. You never know.

Sounds vaguely Dianic, but don't take my word for it.

Thanks! So I guess I'll google "Dianism" - or something ;)

If you are after a label, then your local stationery shop may supply ;) Lol
Seriously, why do you even need one? You are what you are, it needs no labels, why does it? Labels are given and recieved like they are some kind of honorary award or badge.
Be who YOU want to be, follow YOUR heart, learn, take in, and amend your OWN life. Why does everything need a label.
If someone asks you what you are, try saying ''I am ME'' that IS your ''label''
You may not like it, but only you can change the content of that label.
Am I talking crap tonight? lol
Nice to meet you by the way.
A fellow 'me' :)

Oh, I totally appreciate what you're saying and I agree with it to a large extent, but I'd like to find people like me to practice with in real life, and I don't know how to find them. I don't know how labeling myself will help - I don't think I can just place an ad in the personals or whatever. LOL.
Nice to meet you, too! :)

I understand, I do. If it helps, you may try searching MW threads, there is a vast library of information to those who are perhaps searching for answers or are unsure;- seeing for YOURSELF what YOU believe best suits your path name, many will offer an opinion, but it has to ultimately be yours after hearing them all, to make the decision on what you 'are'. what you are to me may not be what you are to you, does that make sense?
If I were to be labeled, I would be many, not just one. I study, I take in, I learn and I use my knowledge to decide on my next course of action.
For instance, I quite like the 'label' of knowledge seeker'' it suits me, because I assimilate information, taking from it and putting into practice, that which I choose, is right for me. I am influenced by many things, Paganism, Oriental, Buddhist, My way, is unique, not the same to another of the 'knowledge seeking' path, yet still, perhaps sharing in some similarity is a mix of all sorts of faiths, rolled up into my own path.
Sincerely the best of luck to you :)
Remember to keep mind open, follow your heart, be true to yourself, and remember that the answers we seek are never usually that far away, it is just a case of opening ones eyes :)
Blessed Be.

keeping an open mind is always best. if your looking for a label, or a set spirituality, I'd try Dianic Witchcraft, or maybe just Witchcraft in general.
try a number of all different things :) I combine a lot of my practices into one and I dont even have a label... I'm just a little bit of everything.

Although I agree completely the labels aren't particularly helpful (and can even be problematic if they keep you from growing), if you want a simple way to give others an idea of your path, try something like green witch, hedge witch or eclectic pagan. Pantheism might resonate with you some also. Try checking out the path specific forums here also.

IF you are intent on finding a label, then perhaps you should look into various forms of feminist spirituality. :)
Although, I don't think dianic witchcraft is fitting for you, because I think you actually have to honour diana.

IS there a reason you need to 'categorize" yourself? IMO you are on a distinguished path of learning and application. You appear to want to heal the planet, Welcome to the club! You are a witch, and that's not a bad thing.
Blessings.

IT appears that you HAVE found us. And you will find many different interests here.
Like me. As an inviromentalist, I only drive once or twice a week. At that time, I take my cloth bags for shopping, and drop off my recycleables that are in my driving circle. I recycle dryer lint and sheets for quilting or poppet stuffing, or making sachets or critter toys. I recycle old jeans that I am saving for a quilt. I shred my black and white newspaper for mulch for my plants, to keep the bad bugs away. I save eggshells and coffe grounds for under the mulch.
I read crystal, herbal and other healing books, and make my healing foods with a ritual and chanting.
Welcome to the club. There is so much more to say and do.

I understand the need for some sort of labeling. That way, it will be easier to explain to people as you try to hook up with like-minded people. Eclecic Pagan is always a good one, or Eclectic Witch, too. Try looking for those kinda women on Witchvox?

Nice to meet you, Ivy. I think I like either Eclectic Pagan or Eclectic Witch. Thanks for the Witchvox reference. I went on Witchvox and tried to join and I just keep getting a blank page that says "no USA grab." Any idea what that would mean?

I think you are an Eclectic Pan-Deist Agnostic Witch. Look it up, hope you agree.
edit: Eclectic Pan-Deist Agnostic Green Witch would be better. But it is a long name. You can call it EPGAW maybe, starting a new path? :)

I don't think dianic witchcraft is fitting for you, because I think you actually have to honour diana.
Dianics don't have to worship Diana, but they do rituals and celebrations and often community events focusing on the Goddess.
tellmethetruth - from your description I'd simply call you a witch. Witches are often in tune with their environment, the local spirits, and often the cycle of seasons and phases. They often do divination and herbcraft, and often see the Sacred as the creator and within the universe.

As to Witchvox, I think the page you want is http://www.witchvox.com/vn/hm/usmi.html
You can click on the links on the left side to browse personals, groups, and so forth.
If you want to register an account, click create account in that grey box in the top right. If you get an error it's possible their site is acting up, but at least if you use the links to the left side you can look at personals and contact people even if you don't have an account yet.
