View Full Version : I'm not my sign

Here's the thing...I'm Scorpio Sun, Scorpio Moon, Scorpio Rising, Scorpio Venus and Scorpio something else...don't remember, but all the descriptions I've read of Scorpio don't fit my personality.
I totally relate to all things AIR! I love to paint clouds and skies, love to write poetry, exchange ideas on internet, have many flying, astral travel dreams...am guided by my Spirit Eagle...and was told in a lucid dream by a beautiful dark haired woman that I was air and had always been air but water was my 2nd strongest element. Then she told me to check out the skies over Kenya!
I don't feel very Scorpionic...I'm more light , airy, spontaneous, flighty, adaptable, flexible and open.
I used to be moody but I've been off anti-depressants for years...now I have some anxiety. Have had trouble with alcohol-which perhaps is fire and water.
Anyone else feel they're 'sign' doesn't match their personality?

Have you considered looking into Chinese Astrology? Perhaps you more closely relate and align to your Chinese sign rather than your western Sun sign. I do match my western sun sign (Gemini with strong Aries influence) but I also strongly match my Chinese sign (negative metal Rat)....I am a strong blend of the two.

astrology doesnt only consists of signs.
its also how these signs work together. maybe your scorpio aspects are blocked. maybe your air aspects are better positioned.
i myself have only rudimentary knowledge of astrology myself, so i cannot read a chart, but maybe its in ther
also, the older you get, the more far away you get from the planet signs, and move toward the houses. the signs/planets describe your roots, but how you act in life to reach out to the roots is described by the houses (1 - 12)
the most prominent houses are 1 - rising, 10 - middle of heavens)
very interesting are also house 7 - outer connections, and 4 the roots
maybe your answer lies somewhere therein

Thanks czechwoods...I haven't looked at my chart in years and don't understand how to...actually...I've always shied away from the 'work' of learning astrology...seems so technical...but I do like learning the personality traits and have seen truth in my actual life with this.
Interesting points you made about aging and moving further away...also The different houses...
thanks!

you are welcome.
astrology is indeed very technical and lots of math. the computer softwares help a great deal with the calculus; a fellow astrolloger friend of mine though would not use the. she sais, that when calculating the chart, she can see/feel the connections far better, as she is building it up herself - by her own means.
since astrology - done right - is such a major investition of time and dedication, and since I already am dedicated to very time and dedication consuming fields such as Energy work, Tarot, european Feng Shui and last not least stone healings - i have have decided not to go ahaead with mastering in astrology. as said before *for me* rudimentary knowledge of astrology is enough, meaning I know basic facts about Planets, Signs, Houses, and aspects in general - bt caanot read charts nor transitions.
From a table of information, i can say enough about a persons structure however, or understand Taot consultings beter, or stone influences by signs/planets or houses etc. That is by far enough for my fields.
In your case however, i would either work with a good astrologer, or really do the chart countin experience by yourself. Maybe important details will show up and show you why you arent corresponding to water elements that much.
on a side note
sometimes we experience somethng that used not to exist much in the times where astrology was founded. That a person may have a near death experience (since in former times this experience often was final anyway) and thus are kind of reborn. The date of rebirth so to speak then becomes their new astrological chart, since the soul redecided itself to continue within a persona but with new goals.
so, if you have had a critical surgery, or survived a most serious illness (cancer, to name just one) or had a very dangerous accident - something of that like - it is possible your chart has changed.
in the astrological chart are the souls settings for a life secluded - at least thats my interpretation

CzechWoods...that's very interesting about the near death experience and beginning under the sign present at that time. I can't recall this happening in my life but then...one doesn't really know how close to death they may have been.
For example, I used to be a binge drinker back in my 20's and easily could have poisoned myself to death with a high blood alcohol level...I was lucky I woke up after each binge. There were times when my husband didn't think I'd make it.
And January 2007 I made a suicide attempt...not a very good one...mostly a call for attention... but was admitted to the psyche ward for 3 days...that would have been under the Aquarius sun. That was a new beginning for me in many ways.
The astral travel dream with the Air Spirit Guide came in June of 2007...5 months after the suicide attempt. June is Gemini...also Air.
Or...how about this...I was supposed to be born on or about Oct 20 which would have been Libra...but in my baby book my Mom writes, "She was red and wrinkled from spending 10 extra days in the dish pan." In other words, I was late...and was born under Scorpio on Oct. 30.
Well interesting theories...I like tarot too and also do long distance energy healing, (Reiki.), I was a licensed massage therapist but let that go due to strain on my body. I am presently working with the Enneagram, Mary Greer's Court Card Book, walking awareness meditation and studying the Tao Te Ching.

congrats on your new beginnings.
i think we have found the answer though.
your alcohol abuse imes correspond well to scorpio (power tripps, exceedings etc - no offence intended to resdent scorpios). it has its explanation in what you said about being born 10 days too late for libra. your sould wanted to learn air ways, but was forced to stay longer. your moms expressions puts the blame in your shoes, yet from your experiences i d say that it was more likely her wanting to hold you in longer (benefits as being pregnant, no letting want to go, or simply fear of giving birth/pian etc)
so your spirit worked in ways to get rid of the scorpio by producing all its neg. tendencies to the max. which worked, when your spirit decided this doesnt go far enough - indeed a cry for attention, and what a very impressive one at that (within context people, not generally!).
You came out of the psychic ward after 3 days. It was like birth labour, in a way. The day you were released, if possible also time and location woould be your new charts date. This is where the calculus should be made. You can go to free web-services that will give you a chart for the occation.
It is most definately your REbirth date.
I am sure, the new you will be well reflected under the given signs/houses/lanets.
let me know - here or by PM - how this worked out, pls.
such 'stories' are most interesting.
:fpraise: to you, for fullfilling your souls karma so brilliantly. :flowers:

Maybe you're a Libra..I was told today by a prof. that due to the Earth's wobble all the signs have moved back one since ancient times. Libra = Virgo, Scorpio = Libra, etc. Just a thought.

CzechWoods;
I just called the hospital in North Carolina where I released, (re-birthed) last January 22. The new chart feels much more like 'me.' It is full of Pices and Aquarius which I really relate to. There's lots of Air here and the water signs are in Pices, not Scorpio. I've always loved anything Picesean. The records dept. did not have the exact time I was released but the nurse said most patients leave sometime after 1:00pm, so I put in 2pm. and got Gemini rising. I'm going to study this further but I like your 'thinking outside of the box, because all things Are changeable in nature, why not the horoscope based on a near death experience ?
The other strange thing is I was diagnosed by many different doctors as having Bipolar and on medications for 10 years. In June 2007, after repeated bad side effects to the Bipolar meds my Dr. put me on a med holiday and told me he thought I might not be Bipolar. I have been depression free with a stable mood history sense then. People generally don't ever overcome Bipolar...it's treatable...but very rare to just have it just 'go away.' But for me, it did go away.
Rising Sign is in 12 Degrees Gemini
Sun is in 02 Degrees Aquarius.
Moon is in 20 Degrees Pisces.
Mercury is in 12 Degrees Aquarius.
Venus is in 23 Degrees Aquarius.
Mars is in 04 Degrees Capricorn.
Jupiter is in 12 Degrees Sagittarius.
Saturn is in 23 Degrees Leo.
Uranus is in 12 Degrees Pisces.
Neptune is in 18 Degrees Aquarius.
Pluto is in 27 Degrees Sagittarius.
N. Node is in 16 Degrees Pisces.
Sacredsin...I have heard that theory and it may be true...I have felt more Libra like than Scorpio like. I have major trouble with indecisivness, I'm an artist and a poet...I like peaceful and calm surroundings...I'm an enneagram type 9 which is the 'Peacemaker.' I hate conflict, have trouble with self-assertion and usually go along with what others want...I am a follower, rather than a leader, I am a spiritual seeker, and am sensitive. I also lack follow through and am changeable and spontaneous...I think much of that sounds like Libra, but I'm no expert.
Anyway...thanks everyone for your time and interesting, thought-provoking ideas!!!

That's a common swipe scientists like to make at astrology. Most Western astrologers use the zodiac based on the seasons because the seasons are what is happening here on Earth. The signs never have corresponded exactly with the constellations after which they are named. The constellations vary in size and the signs do not. Also, the precession of the equinoxes has not moved back a full sign since the height of Roman times. It's about 23 degrees now, if I recall correctly.

Banondraig...thanks for the insight...
I thought 'water' in Chinese 5 elemental theory corresponded with difficulty and danger.
In my studies of the I-Ching; water, which is called Kan, is represented by the color black and means; abysmal, sorrow, passion, overwhelming and laboring difficulties and danger. It is yin, feminine, dark and turbulent. This does not sound airy to me...it sounds really Scorpionic.
However, are Chinese astrological elemental characteristics different from the I-Ching descriptions ? Did Chinese astrology evolve out of the I-Ching or did it evolve separately?

Here's a blurb on wiki for the origin of the Chinese Zodiac...seems a bit flimsy, however if enough people believe in a thought system, it can manifest as reality.
so many paths...so little time !

Hmm. I'm not nearly as up on Chinese astrology as I am on Western, so I could be wrong, but I had gotten the impression that Water in the Chinese system had something to do with intellectualism. Also there's a line from one of Amy Tan's books about how she has too much water, and therefore flows in all directions. Sounded like a Libra to me. :)

Aside from how this thread has evolved, I'm more interested in what your chart actually looks like. Most beginner books tend to stress the darker side of Scorpio and can leave a bad taste for astrology.
could you post your data or chart?

No one is their "sign". We are who we are due to many factors. You would have to profile yourself in a Universal Energy Constants and Variables For Planet Earth on your DOB Table (that hasn't been invented yet and no, Astrology is not) with a glimpse back in time of the key points of your Growth and Development stressors and reactions, and then we haven't even decoded the entire human genome to see what traits you inherited from your ancestors. :sigh: now be happy. You're you. Have a hug. :hugz:

Lol, that explains a lot.
First, your Sun sits just in the 12th house. 12th house Suns have a tendency to not show them selves. Not to the outside, not to the Native.
2nd, Your Mercury is Peregrine. Plants without major aspects will run away with the Native by either dominating the native's personality or acting as a completely separate personality.
Jupiter trining your Sun will bring out the better aspects of Scorpio. Determination, innate psychological understanding. Same with the Venus/Moon conjunction.
Your positive outlook did wonders to keep from falling into the negative side of Scorpio, or being able to pull yourself out of it.
On a side note: issues w/ alcohol are often shown by a harsh aspect between Neptune and a personal planet or Neptune & Saturn. You've got a wide T-Square with Neptune, Saturn & Mars.

So because my Scorpio sun is in the 12th house, I don't show my Scorpio self to others...only to the native? What's the native...myself?
{2nd, Your Mercury is Peregrine. Plants without major aspects will run away with the Native by either dominating the native's personality or acting as a completely separate personality.}
Peregrine, like the falcon? The plants are making me schizophrenic? I'm lost.

well that's good!

I'm sorry... Hubby yells at me for doing that too.
First, a Native is the person that the chart belongs to. It's a generic term that is used in astrology so that when speaking of a specific trait within a chart, that the person who the chart belongs to doesn't feel singled out, or put on the spot.
Any personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) that is placed in a water house (4th, 8th or 12th) is never as overt or straight forward as the other planets. They have a tendency to work behind the scene, as a supporting character to the chart rather than main player. This is especially true if it is the Sun or Moon in the water house.
Because their place is a supporting roll, other people do not normally see this energy in the person's life, and often, the person who the chart belongs too has trouble identifying with the stereotypical sign characteristics. When there is another personal planet in a much stronger placement than the water house Sun or Moon, the Native will usually identify with that sign or planet more than the Sun sign.
Peregrine.... I thought that I spelled it wrong and had to Google it.. :) In astrology, it's a term that means that the planet does not have major aspect to another planet. This situation makes the planet stronger than it would in the same situation, but aspected. Because it doesn't "talk" to anyone else in the chart, it works alone... pure. And will try to become the king of the castle.
The way that you described yourself in the first post noted a very strong Mercury/Gemini influence, but with your Sun in Scorpio I knew that this wasn't possible.
It doesn't make you a schizophrenic, it just notes that you can behave very differently depending on the situation that you're in...
Exp. I have several configurations in my chart that are characteristic of separate personalities. I know what I am doing all the time, but I inherently behave very differently depending if I am in a work situation, a social situation, or a teaching situation. These personalities really don't intergrate with in each other, but rather come out in the situation that they have dominion over.
"Harsh" or "Challenging" (consists of oppositions, squares, inconjunctions and some conjunctions) aspects are not bad. They can be difficult to work with and without conscious effort from the native can/will manifest in the lower levels of expression.
In the T-square that you have, one of the lower expressions is drug and/or alcohol abuse. With conscious effort, it can also show someone who is spiritually awakened, clarvoiant, an intense artist, or a leader in any kind of spiritual practice.
It depends on the choices that the native makes about his/her life.

Thanks Valkie for teaching me all of this. Astrology is farther in depth than I ever imagined.
I can especially relate to the last thing you said:
Quote {In the T-square that you have, one of the lower expressions is drug and/or alcohol abuse. With conscious effort, it can also show someone who is spiritually awakened, clarvoiant, an intense artist, or a leader in any kind of spiritual practice.}
That is so true. With conscious effort I can lead a life of spiritual fulfillment...I have always been a seeker and have followed many paths, I've been to India and lived in the ashram of an enlightened guru for 4 months, I've been Wiccan, Taoist, tried Bhuddism, Unity, A.A....I have intense astral travel dream experiences without trying...I am also an artist/poet who is frustrated because of moving around so much this past year I have no 'home' to sell/show work...
Being reminded that I have a choice between conscious awareness and the beast gives me power over my life. Thanks again.
