Please share your favorites. I had an experience that made me realize I need more protection. It is kind of a long story, but I will share so you will know where I am coming from with this question.

I have a neighbor on the next street who is Wiccan and into herbal magic. For that reason we became friends, however there are other aspects of her personality that were a bit of a red flag for using caution. I was spending some time with her every few months, mostly when her daughters came to visit from out of state. In that way our daughters could play together. The most recent time she invited herself and 2 daughters to go to my house. I had expected just one daughter to give this mom a little break, because there are some issues there. In the end I drove them to the library so we could play in the kids room. After a short time one of her daughters and mine were chasing and running in the aisles. I could not control them. I told my friend that I needed to separate the girls and I would take my girl out to the back of the library play yard and I would meet her back there when she was done. Then from there she rather quickly directed her kids outside and got on the pay phone to call her mom to ask for a ride. She told me that I had embarrassed her, which I really didn't understand. I just told her that, and that I was sorry she felt that way and if she changed he mind I would give her a ride home. So in the end I returned home and found that she and her daughters had left all kinds of things in my house.. her magical herb book, and random other things, hat, notebook, etc. The reason in the first place that the occasion came for her to invite herself to my house was that I was there to drop off other things she left behind. So I was not in a hurry to go out of the way to return things. So then 3 days ago I took the car with my husband and girl with the bag full of items to return. As soon as I pulled up she saw my car and was giving me the most awful stare. I immediately developed stiff neck and shoulders, head ache. When she saw that I was returning her things somehow she lightened her mood and tried to make some conversation like nothing had happened. I did have crystals in the car, but it seems I need to be wearing some. I don't know. I stood in the rain for a while afterwards and took a salt bath. Felt much better. However it was a disturbing experience. Would like to be better protected against this kind of negative energy in the future, especially since it seems that I unintentionally made an enemy.

I guess that I should add that just thinking of the incident gives me a headache.

Iron Meteorite cause it is not only protective but also kicks any offensive energy in the butt in a very rude and harse way. I`ve always looked at it as a protective shield with one nasty biga$$ spike on the front for any unwanted energies which come just a tad too close.

For something more subtle I have always liked the black quartz from italy (not morion). This has a tad of an offensive energy as well.

For a passive choice I would take smoky quartz.

Labradorite always works well for me. It's not often offensive energy-wise, but it puts an extra kind of protective layer around you so that nothing affects you as a person. I also have developed a habit of using onyx and selenite if I want the energy to bounce back to where it originally came from, but I don't feel good combining those with labradorite. I mainly like this combination because onyx is very "in your face" while selenite's my number one protector.

wear bracelets with soly or a majority of
black shoerl tourmaline (http://groups.msn.com/czechwoodsgems/tourmalineturmalin.msnw), best on both hands, and a fitting necklace

for more info on tourmaline, see the rape recovery thread, pls

Black tourmaline is good, yeah, but sometimes I get the feeling it builds a wall up around me which I don't want to be there. It also tends to cut off my telepathic/empathic links, which I cannot miss in my line of work. I often replace it with chiastolite instead, because that one just reflects the negativity back without dragging me all the way down with it.

I guess a lot of it comes down to personal preference, right?

Thank you all for your suggestions. What I am trying right now is the smokey quartz, because that is what I have to work with.

Labradorite I may also try also.

Just thinking now I may have some black tourmaline beads left. Hmm. I should do some digging. I have been working much more with herbs than stones in recent times.

i like that you've decided to use smoky quartz, as it protects but its not as 'heavy' feeling as the other stones.

Do you have tigers eye? if it feels alright to you, you may want to try that.

Amethyst, in moderation might help, also, but i personally don't like the feeling of it with tiger's-eye, so together, it may not be good.

Garnet is also something that you can try, and i find its colour calming.

Amethyst and smoky quartz, and tigers-eye and smoky quartz feel alright together (personally) , though, and garnet and smoky quartz also seem lovely feeling, but i am not sure of your feelings towards them.

Since you said that you work with herbs, you could make some small bags for yourself with something for protection. Sandalwood is nice, and im sure that you could better recommend things to put into it.

Putting stones inside too, maybe quartz, if it doesn't vibrate too much to wear often or a small bit of hematite. You could also put some of the stray beads that you have, if they are too few to make anything out of. You could sew stone beads onto the front (or the back, against your body) of the bag in a design, or just onto it to keep you safe.

i hope you can find something to help your situation.

I use obsidian for protection. I love the feeling. But black tourmaline is what I think would be best for you. Along with wearing it, you might bury some at the four corners of your house, or at the four directions.

Citrine is good for absorbing negativity, jet is as well. Both can be found in everyday jewelry which makes wearing much easier than a pocket full of stones!

maybe therein is the answer.

herbs work more quickly but less on the long run than stones

protection, mostly , is something for a long time committment

Here is a little update. I made a necklace with a lot of black tourmaline, clear quartz, also some smokey quartz and a little blue lace agate to balance. Again yesterday I found myself in a simlar situation physically feeling someone's negativity. This was while I was wearing the necklace. The feeling was specifically at my crown chakra. Should I make some head band with the stones, or do I need to take other measures?

I definitely second/third/etc the smokey quartz and black tourmaline options. I'd also suggest perhaps burying small mirrors at the cross-quarters of your property, along with pieces of black tourmaline, to deflect the negative energy.
